  1. Thanks for the report kdc.
  2. Sounds like the fish that hit the jerk bait were just barely interested, just got close enough to get hooked. Some other reports from the upper end mentioned fish spitting up small craws and they were catching them on the little rig. Good numbers of fish at least.
  3. Jeff, so sorry your son has to work. This really makes me feel bad that I couldn't fish with you. Any way good luck, hopefully you'll find the mother load in some of the same places you found on your last outing.
  4. Very nice looking lure. May be a while before you see a big selection of these in stores. Depends on how long it takes SPRO to catch up on production and the overall demand.
  5. Enjoyed it Bo. Thanks for posting it to the forum.
  6. Review is very encouraging, looks good, might be worth a try.
  7. Now that's funny!
  8. Welcome to the forum. Feel free to post anytime. Congrats on the house purchase. Not on your part of the pond, but there should be some who are.
  9. Excellent catching Jeff. Glad duck season and Royals baseball are over for you, now you can concentrate on fishing. Good to have you back on the Forum.
  10. Good info guys. All good grub fishing information, always learn something I didn't know. One thing I don't think was mentioned is to use a dab of lock tite gel to attach the grub to the jig head. This will save having to change the grub out after catching a few because it is sliding down the jig head.
  11. Outstanding pic of a good LM with the WE spoon attached to his mouth. I don't know about the status of your sanity in ordering the float & fly rods! The Go Pro camera though would be a good idea. My wife bought me one last year and I have taken some great fishing video. My problem has been to think to turn the dang thing on. Some of the best catches tend to happen when the camera was not on. I would like to have a video of you and Donna on the first outing with you both slinging those long rods.
  12. Free fall until contact with the bottom, can also shake the slack line while falling. Many takes occur on the initial fall. After bottom contact slight up and down motion with the rod tip just letting it hop along. Slow movements especially in cold water, but more jigging action/swimming motion and movement in warmer water. This time of year slower is usually better.
  13. Good catching Jim. That is good production for a short trip out.
  14. Good report Champ and Donna. Glad you caught a few.
  15. Thanks for the info guys. I spoke with a buddy who was fishing the Kimberling area Saturday. He caught a few shallow on the jerk bait, but then moved out deep and slayed them in the afternoon. Lots of keepers up to 4 lbs, 30 to 45' deep on the spoon in several locations.
  16. I am with you on the "feel" thing, this technique took me a while to get the hang of it. Once you catch a few you'll be able to repeat the process.
  17. So how do you know when you have a bite if you're not monitoring it with contact? Ocassionally remove the slack and feel for weight? The fish could have munched on it for a long time without knowing it. That is correct. Remove the slack to get to where you can feel, then let it fall again on slack line if you don't feel anything different. Sometimes your line will come tight from the fish that has in haled the bait. Other times they will take it and swim off with it. They will usually hold on to the elaztech to allow plenty of time to set the hook. If you miss a hit, just drop it back down, normally the fish will hit it again.
  18. My Dad has been gone about the same amount of time RPS. I have found memories of our fishing trips, especially the first one he took me on. I caught a 4 lb large mouth on a creme flip tail purple worm, from that moment on I have loved fishing. I was 10 years old when I caught that bass. I know if he were here today, he would love to fish the Rock with me. Thanks for your post.
  19. Good idea. I would be in for buying these if they can make them with the smaller hook and keep the weed guard. I have used these in green pumpkin and brown and have caught a bunch of fish, but think they would really be good with the #1 hook (more action). Would buy 1/8 & 1/16 oz.
  20. A very good days fishing, whether any are caught or not when your Dad is in the boat with you.
  21. Blue bandit is hard to beat. Good catch. Is that a recent pic?
  22. The shaky head has a place and time where it shines. The Ned Rig will stand the test of time, just like all other really good lures.
  23. Excellent tutorial James and Dave. Steve, you can take this info to the Bank. A couple of other things worth mentioning. When I was convinced that the Ned Rig was the real deal and I needed to add that technique to the arsenal, I went fishing with just a couple of spinning rigs, mushroom head jigs and ZinkerZ's in various colors. This was the only thing I fished with for that day. It was so worth it and I caught fish all day long. On the stick bait, be sure to jerk it on a slack line. This will get the best side to side wobble of the bait. You will need to experiment on how hard to jerk the bait, some days they want it jerked hard (warmer water temps), some days not so much (colder water temps). Champ may have covered this, but very important to catching success. Good luck.
  24. Good to know J-Doc. I guess I have been lucky enough to select the right lure and presentation to catch them. Didn't know they were so picky at times.
  25. Very nice images of fish and structure. I can see why you spent some time trying to catch them. That is one massive school of fish, which if they were white bass, why wouldn't they hit a spoon. When you find them like that it is normally a sure deal to catch some.
