Not to get off topic but what is the preferred bait on this style of rig? Worms? Shad? Minnows? Leeches? Is it safe to assume everyone is using live bait?
What weight are those jig heads doty? & what kind of strike indicator are you using on the fly rod? You guys using 6 weights? Short leaders? Just curious how your rigging the fly rod.
Jeff Boat Motor Repair in Springfield by Ritter Springs park works on em. Can't say I've got a lot of experience with him but he did help me out this spring & was reasonable, I'd go back.
When will Ameren start bringing up the lake level? I know rain will help & Truman dumping water in will help.
Boat is stuck on the hoist until I get deeper water. I need maybe another 2 feet or so.
What type of line & what size do you use blue79? I've got a braided nylon rated at something 300# on my floaters & I can't adjust that by putting excess in the cap,it's just too big. But maybe a 50lb mono would be the way to go.
You guys ever use hotdogs? My neighbor swears by em but I've never tried. I typical use liver or perch. I've got a throw net but I've never been able to find shad big enough for the size is like to use. Where do you find big shad on the lake?
how deep are your hooks on those jugs? and do you fish stationary jugs or do you let them free float? ive tried both at stockton and i find the stationary ones get hung up & snag while the free floaters float a mile in the wind. but i dont think either one out fishes the other. my hooks on the floating jugs are usually set at least 10' - 15'deep but ive been thinking about adjusting them to around 4'-8'. is that too shallow if im fishing around aldrich or turkey creek.
I say eat it if your so inclined. MDC allows a daily limit of 1 & possession 2 and besides that, sounds like most everyone else who catches, releases . This time of year it may be best to catch & keep because muskies caught and released often die due to the high water temperatures.
I put out about a dozen milk jugs baited half with liver and half with hot dogs & also another 4 noodle jugs with 2 hooks each, all with liver. pulled in 2 cats. fished from 7-11 around aldrich.
ive seen people catching fish around the access at aldrich. but i think any lake access where you can get relatively close to the river channel in the lake should give you good catfishing. several places around there, just need to look at it on google.maps
