  1. i own a yak thats a sit-inside....sometimes i think id like a sit-on-top one for a better perspective when flyfishing from the boat, but i sight fish a lot. other times i think an inflatable pontoon is the way to go, seems like it would be easier to flyfish out of when trying to turn your body for casting or even positioning the boat with the oars . but if you dont like to go solo, you better get a canoe.
  2. I dont have a lot of experience fishing for whites on stockton, but isnt this late in the year for them to be running up the rivers? I know water temps are the key and this was a cold winter, but dont the whites normally head upstream during March?
  3. unless your trying to catch muskie, i think richline2258 is on the money
  4. you have any luck? i fished Taylor bridge area sat morning & didnt catch any. only guy i saw catch something said he caught 3 total, all small fish.
  5. regardless of what you believe, the fact is state regulations ban felt soles. thats just the way it is. if you don't like it or you disagree with it, it doesn't make it okay to disregard it. Our MDC modifies and changes state regs on an annual basis, i'd suggest contacting them as well as your local TU organization rather than blatantly disregarding our state wildlife codes. As a sportsman who willfully violates wildlife codes you give a bad name to all sportsman. & i'm pretty sure its liberalism that felt soles spread these days.
  6. You risk public resources for your own personal benefit. I don't want to see anyone get hurt but please consider the consequences. It's just not worth it. You sound like a drunk driver who got into an accident & tried to justify his actions 'I only had 2 drinks & was traveling less than a mile' Please don't risk one of MO's finest fisheries. Fish from a boat, the bank or get a wading stick. Maybe don't wade into fast moving or deep waters. It's just not worth it.
  7. i throw a light, medium light, & medium action spinning gear now and for what little ive trolled, i find it difficult to closely monitor my depth. ive been reluctant to buy a reel with a counter. thought about getting the add on, but now im not so sure about it & i'll prob suck it up and get a reel with a counter.
  8. Thanks for the insights. looks like i'll be getting a new setup, dont have a reel with a counter on it. how many rods can one person legally put out?
  9. Ive not done a lot of trolling but I'm interested in getting started. I fish stockton & would like to target crappie, walleye &/or white bass. What rod/reel combo do you use or would you recommend for trolling when targeting these species & why do you like it? what line (ie, mono, fluoro, braided) do you use & why?
  10. What sizes do you guys like & use for trolling? I'll be hitting up stockton and not really sure how to rig. i'd like to target walleye white bass or crappie. someone said size 9, seems little big to me but idk, ive not trolled much. think ive got a 5, couple 6's, and a few more little bigger than that.
  11. Im a shimano guy. ive got several saharas and a sedona. all in various sizes, 750, 1000, 2500. Never had an issue with them. I mainly use them on rivers fishing every thing from a small creek like crane creek to places like the niangua river & out on to the main. they've held up, however i do go clean them up about every couple years and grease/oil them but that will help any reel.
  12. Phil, will you post the audio here? Thanks for all the work you & everyone involved puts into the spring seminar series.
  13. Thanks for the pics.
  14. Good seminar. good turnout. Thanks for the putting on this spring series of seminars.
  15. what part of the lake are you fishing? where do you put?
  16. Sorry for asking a question. Thanks for the help.

    Jugging

Any 'jug' that doesn't have a name & address or conservation number is trash & should be picked up & thrown away. People that break game laws hurt us all. As long as they are legally marked, put em out, catch fish & have fun. If your driving a boat though, watch out, could be a person swimming out there & not a jug, or it could be my jug out there in the main channel, either way please don't hit it!!
  18. Surely those aren't stocked right? It's been a while since I've been to that area but I don't recall many holes that appeared large enough for a fish of that size to spend a summer but I guess I'm wrong about that. That's encouraging to see. How far above jolly mill have you found trout & how far below the lower parking lot of that area do you find trout? I've really only fished between jolly mill & the confluence of Capps & a creek that joins below the lower parking lot.
  19. i fished crane last week & started with a weighted san juan with a bhpht trailing. I never got a hit until I switch to a red PMX dropping a BHHE, I caught 3, all about 10-12" on the PMX. I was fishing in the middle of the day, the water was high and running clear, not crystal clear but clear enough.
  20. Have you ever caught any browns in capps? I thought mdc stocked them occasionally, once a year or so. any big (3lbs+) bows or browns in capps? ive been twice and caught some stockers in late march but thats it.

    Jugging

I have no problem leaving jugs that are weighted & stationary on the edges of a channel in a main lake for an overnight. I try to stay away from the heavy traffic areas but way up the arms of a lake the channel narrows & it's tougher. However as long as the jugs are legally marked it's the responsibility of a driver of a boat to avoid any obstacle in the water. It's no different than driving a car.
  22. any one seen Cedar Ridge ramps? heard those were closed. Aldrich was underwater.

what size shad are you getting at caplinger? what is considered a big shad a stockton? The size of the shad we caught at aldrich was only about 2-3". we were putting 3-4 shad on each 6/0 hook but I think the shad came off the hook relatively easy. We found a lot of empty hooks. I usually hook em through the back under the dorsal fin. but considering how small the shad were and that we didnt have a shortage of bait, we just loaded the fish on the hook.

We caught shad at aldrich but small ones. No real luck with em though. 4 channel cats total but 3 were small & the other only bout 18". We drifted jugs across creek channels & mud flats & had stationary ones by flooded fields. Surprisingly slow for us.
