  1. I think the specific details are ok depending on how they are presented. Ive found a few things......1.) Most people cannot replicate your success no matter how specific the information....theyll try for an hour then quit. 2.) The where, when, and with what info changes daily, sometimes hourly....obviously that depends on the species targeted, but usually its moot to go where someone else was catchin em yesterday. 3.) Heavily pressured waters hold few secrets. For example....I fish Busch wildlife in st louis frequently....great fishery, but giving up spots there wont hurt anything. In fact, i post EXACTLY how to fill the boat with crappie there (its not difficult), in hopes that fewer fish will equal bigger fish. All that said, you just need to be careful about the info you post and determine if you consider that place "special". Like Ham mentioned....a small creek that holds a few smallies....terrible idea to post that cuz a few people can decimate the area. Posting about catching fish off point seven from lake x during this time of year, not gonna hurt anything. This is a great site, ive learned so much since I joined its rediculous and if i can share just a bit of what ive learned than ill be happy. I think the overall benefit of this site far outweighs the few jerks looking to steal a spot.
  2. Great stuff! Thanks for posting.
  3. lol dont sell yourself short RPS...yes there is a wealth of information on walleye fishing on this site, its really incredible....that said....dragging flicker shads around on leadcore is about the most productive way ive found....plus youll get crappies too. Change speeds and depths and it works for me in just about any conditions.
  4. How anyone could be for this legislation is sickening.....Munzlinger....what a prick!
  5. Grubs are in my opinion one of the most versatile lures you can use. They catch every species, all times of year, and in almost every water. My personal favorites are Kalins grubs, I like the thin tail, they have great action and very slow retrieve speeds. Also, I picked up a few packages of the Kalins Sizmic Grubs....they are different but work. I usually fish them on with 15/4 braid and a 6lb fc leader with spinning gear. I have my best luck fished slowly just off the bottom, almost any number of retrieves will work. Slow steady, short hops, crawled through rocks, even verticle works. I use 2inch for crappie, 3 inch for everything else in cold water, and 4 or even 5 inch every other time. Bob Bennet (stockton guide service), follows shad around this time of year and gets right on top of them with a 2inch white or pearl grub fished vertically, he doesnt jig or move his rod tip all. He does incredibly well doing this.
  6. Great info cant wait to give it a shot!
  7. Smart....if ya can trailer to bull or stockton or table rock. All great lakes!!
  8. Also the table rock forum is the most informative thread on oaf. I only fish table rock once a year in the summer time, (And willingly post my results and locations.) But the technical information about fishing is priceless. I learned how to walleye fish from rps...now when I go to stockton I can count on some tasty fillets coming home with me. Thanks dude!!! Great articles! I dont care about spots anyone fishes as I only fish kinberling city. Whats better is you who fish everyday post how you rig things. Boat positions. Graph interpretation. Favorable conditions. Types of structure. The list is endless and the information can be translated directly to whatever fishery someone can fish.
  9. Dtrs....have you fished a ned on a small grassy lake? I live in st louis and fish a few 30-100 acre lakes max depth 15-20ft. I have success with finesse plastics there. This year im gonna try the ned and see if it works as well or better than my usual stuff!
  10. If your gonna be fishing around st louis....worry about finding fish first. It can be tough but very possible to catch bass walleye and crappie within an hr of st louis. Busch wildlife is a great place to start for bass and crappie. Lots of little ones but giants are there for both. Walleye...good luck lol. Probe rivers starting now for em. What all the other guys said is gold. Great lists.
  11. get up there!! youll be pleasantly surprised!!
  12. Chalk another one up for stockton....Great multispecies lake....lots of big crappie, walleye and bass. Use something with a bit of purple in it!
  13. They look like winners to me! Have not tried them, but will most certainly pick a few up for next summer.
  14. Fair enough. Thanks for the reply.
  15. Why is keeping a bass so much more offensive than a walleye, crappie, or catfish? You catch a walleye/crappie and your an idiot for throwing it back....catch a bass and your a murderer. They both eat just fine. And there are no doubt more bass in TR than walleye or crappie. Not trying to be jerk, just curious why bass are so valuable compared to other species?
  16. I disagree with Kelroy...if you are going to put in the time and effort required to learn a new technique...then you should learn how to use the equiptment best suited for it, or you already at a disadvantage. Sure you can use a snoopy pole for a DS...but keep your expectations low. Nobody throws a-rigs with a 12ft crappie dipping pole....certain techniques are just much much more effective with the proper gear. I rarely use casting gear...but when im throwing cranks, or working a blade bait...i wouldnt use anything else. Spinning gear just doesnt hold up as well in those situations, just like casting gear is not as effective for a DS setup. Nobody on here is peddling any specific brand. Everyone has their own preference with brands. Also....because pros are sponsored they will always be walking advertisements, but if you find some locals or guides that fish a DS often....they all use the same basic equiptment.
  17. Yup....good fast or ex-fast spinning rod, with a heavy spinning reel to balance it out well.
  18. 1/8th, 1/4, and 3/8th would by my faves.....absolutely LOVE that color, Looks like a real killer. Personally, id say lose the rubber skirt....that jig will work well without it!
  19. CO2 absorbs IR light very strongly. About 2400 wavenumbers.....The majority of the light energy that the sun produces is IR light. A molecule that absorbs IR light does via vibrational modes of freedom. This means that as light is absorbed...the molecule becomes excited (vibrates) and upon relaxation a lower energy photon is releases...that gap in energy is lost to the environment as heat. Water vapor works the exact same way, but is even more IR active! Adding CO2 and/or H2O into the atmosphere will most definitely increase the heat energy on earth. It may not be a linear trend of increased temperature (although it is for the most part) due to the fact that earth has mechanisms to dissipate excess energy in the short term, but the general trend will be upward. There is no debate, there is no argument, the facts are the facts. Just like water + dirt = mud, CO2+ IR light = heat. There is a political debate, nothing more. The earth is not turning into some hellbound inferno next week....but the fact is that we are pumping outrageous amounts of energy into the atmosphere and just seeing what will happen. Most (nearly all) people who argue climate change have no buisiness arguing it as they know nothing. Nobody would argue baseball with a hall of famer, or quantum phenomena with a particle physicist, but we are all scientists when the climate change "debate" is brought up lol. (like the evolution debate, or the gravity debate...oh wait)
  20. http://www.ozarkanglers.com/table-rock/trolling-for-walleye/ good starting points.

  22. Same thing happened to my boat a few years back.....when I took the cover off and ran at full throttle I noticed only 2 out of the 3 carb throttle plates were opening. The other was stuck....after a little cleanout it ran good as new.
  23. Ive stayed at southwinds, happy os, orleans trail, amd the state park no complaints on any. I prefer south winds and happy os but only due to the locatiion.
  24. That sounds like a pretty solid plan. Thats the exact same thing id be doing. Trolling cranks Usually works really well for us all through September. Dont forget some jigging spoons in the 3/4 to 1 oz range. If its cool and or overcast dont forget shallow water....pitch ur jig n crawler up on the bank and walk it back til its underneath you in 15-20ft.
  25. Good report, thanks, my brother and his family are down this week in the kimberling area, they had very similar results around long gravel points in the 30-40ft I believe. Mostlys K's and big fat healthy looking fish...not many keepers but numbers were good, and they are fat. Caught them all on a split shot crawler. His fiance caught a 4foot gar vertical jigging a keitech swimbait!
