  1. Try Rogues sometime. I used to carry one rigged all the time in the pre spawn period. those things can catch some real big crappie.
  2. Well the thing here was she was a aged woman. They just disregarded her. They need their a-- kicked. I have never had the experience of having a arrogant fisherman at my dock. Out on the lake I have had a couple.
  3. Simple truth is the ned is is smaller and is inhaled easier. I do not know how anyone cannot recoognize a strike. Rods today. are mostly senitive and braid is like a telegraph wire. I think most of it just has to do with people giving the bass time to get it all in there mouth so they will be sure to land it. There is a time for that and there is a time not to. I had the experience this morning of catching a bunch of small bass mostly 11 and 12 inches long on a 1/4 oz hair jig tipped with a Brush hog for a trailer. I let them take more time with it because the bait was larger. Never deep hooked a one. CORRECTION I mixed it up. Tge jig was 1/4 oz and not 5/16. I had another outfit in the boat with a 5/16oz jig head with a Zoom 5"" Dead Ringer attached and messed them up. 5/16 would have been beyond the bounds of at setup.
  4. Those I know who do it do not do it at this time under a light. they go out and fish in the dark just like day time casting jigs and road runners. At my age I no longer go out at high at all. my night vision has about become zero. I do not go to a light until mid to late summer. And that I only do when my family is here now and then.
  5. You know Jerry I am wondering about that brown slop they see on the bottom. Could that be that invasive crap. I am sure Jerry more or being taken buy more and more fisherman. Smalliebigs------ As to minnows it is a rare day when a minnow will outfish a lure. If your implying the over fishing is due to locals you surely do not know that.
  6. Pay close attention to what he said about hours on the above post. That is the time to be out there this year. And it sometimes goes on all night. Crappie have been known to spawn heavily in this lake at night. I nave a notion that is what is happening this year.
  7. You need Jerry to chime in on this. I am sure he is up to the minute on the area. As far a minnow fisherman go they have been abundant on Clearwater since I can remember more than likely there are just tooooo many people using the lake now days. As to Amerens they are a anti fisherman and conservation bussiness since way way back long before they merged with U E. Their old company name was Central Illinois Power Service. They need to be watched every minute. They need to het into some deep S--- with a federal agaency. They ried to seize a whole bunch of land around LOZ. There is also some sort of slim growth that has invaded Missouri. The name slips my mind, but that might be part of the problem. I hate to hear about it. I fished the lake every week for a long time way back in yesteryear. Had many friends in the area all dead now.
  8. I bet they spent a spent a pile of money to find that out. They should have been able to figure that one out on there own.
  9. p It is a lot of work, worry. and responsiblility. What your describing is a place back in a cove. You wil find that except for the Ice free. Its hard to find a place that is well maintained. That is the major thing. A lot of people are starting to want evrything on 1 floor when they plan to retire as well. Then there is sewers. They are coming all over the lake hell. or high water. DNR is pressing it. This one of mine might be on the market if my health contiues to fail I might be forced to sell it. It would not be reasonable however.
  10. I knew you dogs at thos get togethers. But I am wondering what your doing to the sheep and goats. hmmmmm.
  11. When see how the water had rose this morning. I knew what you would be doing Wrench. Worked backed up or not,
  12. As far as how to handle a fish I suppose it depends on the kind of fish it is. You can injure any of them with a lot more than the way grab grab them by the lip. There is a lot of damage done in the landing and tranporting as well. Chief you were mostly right about the pic stuff last year. I only share catch information with one or two people. I have no douvt about their word. though I do take a occasional picture by putting the fish on a 48 in metal rule I carry in my boat.
  13. There is a lot of people on here pushing products. Some are sponsored maybe. It would be a good forum to do that in to I think.
  14. my live box does both, sinks and has a latch. I welded mine together out of 3/4 in steel Angels. It is suspended by pully and steel cable system ,with a wench. I have watch a blue heron take fish out of a box of a neighbors. It about floored me when that bird reached down in the stall and just lifted lid with its beak and layed it to the side, just like anyone else might.
  15. Laker have you got a latch down lid on that live box.??? I have seen a family of coons take that many out of a box in short order. And I agree i most areas the crappie are kind of scarce. The few I a. getting here still are in spawning dolors and i believe when this lake finally starts to warm up a bit more they are going to go at it. I blame the crappie fishing mostly on Amerans. They just had to drop the lake like they did. At that time water around here was 60 dreeegs at the surface. Yesterday in this area most of the surface was 58 and today it is 57.
  16. I have never ever bothered anyone for fishing my dock or even tying to it myself. There are several on the lake think they own it. I remember a guy back in a cove down about the 13 mile marker used to have a sprinkler on the top of his dock. If he caught you down their he would come down and turn the sprinkler on. On time I called the SOB every name in the book and did everything possible to provoke him. There was a time I was even plotting to go over there at night and destroy the darn thing. eventually the MDC paid him a visit. On the other hand my dock seem to be on the crappie trail around this area. Last spring I had a prop busted by someone very close to the stall when he got caight in a wake. His boat went down and bow came up under the prop bending it is what I believe happened. I do not like people geting out and walking on the doaxk however because I cannot tell who is a bice guy and who is a thief. There is one thing you should know about the property rights. Armens made some determination about docks on the WATER YOU CONTROL. Just what that means I do not know. But I am sure their are different views. Both right and wrong.
  17. I do not fish crappie out in the lake as much as from a few selected docks. My neighbor and I have this one that over the period of 15 years has provided more than enough crappie fishing. This year has been the worst of all. I have barely been out bass fishing. Mostly because of trips to Herman and St Charles doing stuff for my family. I got home yesterday and took a short hop out to see what is what and was a bit amazed that the water temperature was still between 55-58 in my area. I tend to think that does bot match up right with the length of the days we are having. I feel that might have something to do with it. Also the timing of this. second draw down on has hurt some things I am sure. We need to all get together and onfront the MDC and ARMENS aboit the situations they are creating. I still feel if they must do this the. there should be some sort of restoration done at the end of the Gravois Arm so that white bass and wlleye can spawn. The white bass picture on this arm has veen in steady decline for some time partly because of some of these policies.
  18. Hogwally--- Jist be careful of the tow boats. That is kind of silly for me to say. I can remember being about 14 yrs old and running up behind tows jumping their wakes in a old wooden runabout.
  19. I used to fish a lot In the. the winter howeever I spent my time below below Carksville. That would seem like a hell of a area to nail some. Those rock jetties they have out in to the river for channel control would seem like hot spots anywhere on the river. Many a time I caught a pile of white and tellows of those things. If I was going to use a bair I would pick a golden eye. everything seem to be anything the river seems to love them. A neighbor and i caught 62 walleye and sauger without fishing from just one spot on the Illinois side right below Clarksville. Clarksville was one of those places I considered retiring.
  20. I used to use lizards but have about converted to Brushhogs for a Carolina. Indo not wory much about the color. Any thing dark is fine with me.
  21. Joe D ----- Young teen how old I wonder. As a young teen I had a friend whos mother owned a bar. I and her son used to go over there and stock the beer boxes and tap the kegs for her. Seemed to have a lot of women coming in there in need of help bringing things up from the basement etc. That started when I was 14 and went on till I left for the Navy at 17. In later life I was grateful for their guidance.
  22. I have used that setup for years. After a couple of failure with the foot control I swore off foot control.. I bught my present motor amd applied a handle I ordered from Down in Miss I think it. was. It allows full 360 degree control by jusy pushing pulling the alumanum handle. It ialso evtends to about 5 ft. Power comes through the floor button. I will never have anything else.
  23. I have a riend who can tell you real quick like I believe. His name is Ed Bryant. You might want to contact Osage outdoors in Laurie Mo. They have a web site but I do not know what it is off hand.
  24. You said a mouthful that time. The company that took over LOZ used to be called Central Illinois Power Service. When I heard they were going to merge with UE I expected all these problems. I went to Coffeen Lake in Ill when it was brand new. After they realized people were using the lake the bulldozed the roads to keep us off. When that did not work they got the county to deputize a bunch of people and arrested people for being on the lake. Part of the problem here on LOZ is they signed on to a water level management plan with the Feds. That plan dictates what a level will be on any on several given dates regardless of fish fish etc. They have about ruined the White Bass fishing because of this. There neds to be some dredging and other things done at the head of the gravois so that the Whites can get through to spawn.
  25. J Doc---- I agree with you. I know you are as expert on graphs as anyone on here. Sometimes I forget the real world most of these on here live in. When your younger and have a job and family to support the graph is a great tool. I understand this very well. I know what it was too support and raise a family back in the day. I can only imagine those pressures now days. You just cannot get out there and get a lot of experience without sacrificing other areas of your life. I have had my selfish moments in the past in order to feed my compulsion to fish. As to graphs I came from the period before Graphs. I can remember clearly the first Green boxes. We thought they was a total miracle. But I also found over the years that in many cases they will interfere with establishing the pattern. That was the thing we all learned more than anything in the days of before the graphs. Really I believer thats what catches the fish.I just do not think people should forget about that. This day in age it is very to do with graphs and so called miracle lures and other fish in things being hawked like crazy.
