I'm just happy everyone involved is ok, all too often this doesn't seem to be the case these days. Its really sad a family can't go have a nice time on a pontoon without having to worry about massive wakes.

Made my annual trip down this past weekend for some floating, fishing, BSing with friends and as usual we had a great time. We launched our canoes from the Myrtle access Saturday and the bottom half of the ramp is completely gone. The concrete goes down a little ways then becomes mud/gravel and drops down in to a hole that must be a good 12 feet deep. We had no issues launching but I could see a jet boat trailer having problems. Also, the area around the little picnic bench is all washed out too. Certain portions of the river are rather different this year, with certain productive holes being gone completely. I wish I'd brought my phone on the water to get some good pics As far as fishing goes, I did pretty good landing about 40 smallies, but only 4 were over 15 inches. Most fish were on a pumpkin colored plastics with only a couple coming on topwater, and none on spinners or swimmers. No goggle eye this year which was a bit of a surprise.

I get what you are saying, but consider that highways are "public" roads and there are laws about what sort of vehicles can be driven on them. I can't take my Abrams tank down 44 even if its equipped with the proper lights and signals. Of course this makes perfect sense because tank treads would destroy the roads, kind of like how the cruisers are directly destroying docks and otherwise. *In full disclosure, I do not have a tank, but it would be a lot cooler if I did...

I think the fact that it looks longer than other line to line options put it in my head that it seems bulky. After tying it a few times I can see that it really is thin and actually quite simple to tie. Gonna practice a little more then give it a go on the water soon

This FG knot is definitely intriguing, might have to spend a little time practicing it this evening. For you guys using it, how well does it pass through guides? Seems a little bulky...

I believe that is a little creeper? Its definitely not too big. I've caught smallies on weedless/single hook soft plastics like Hudd 68s, 3:16s, ragos, etc but the hookup ratio is not as great as with largemouth of course. If you want to try larger baits on smallies I suggest going with treble hook options to increase hookups, either hard swimmers or line through soft plastics. I feel with bigger baits smallmouth aren't trying to flat out engulf them but give em a smack just so they know who's boss. I'm no expert but this is just what I've found
