  1. I have considered going the UV resin route. Is there any way to save money on the UV lights? Are there other aftermarket lights that anyone would recommend that are a bit cheaper? While I am on a budget, I'm not opposed to spending money for a quality product. Just looking to see if anyone has found a cheaper alternative.
  2. Thanks! Yeah, I tied up a handful this weekend to swap with a buddy. And yup, took the pictures myself. I'm still trying to find the best applicator for 2 part epoxy. I've tried q-tips and toothpicks, but I just cant seem to get a good even coat without blemishes. It probably doesn't help that I don't have a wheel or dryer, so I just manually spin them on the vise.
  3. I've been tying some creek crawlers as well. My favorite craw pattern I've found yet.
  4. Did anyone get a chance to get after the ducks this weekend? I was planning on getting out this morning, but I decided a warm bed was a little more comfortable than 15 degrees and 20mph winds. I figure the cold front that rolled in probably brought in some new birds.
  5. I picked this year to try duck hunting for the first time and I've killed nothing but time. Hoping this latest front might push a few late birds down.
  6. I ride out there quite a bit. The local groups have been doing a pretty good job this past year with maintenance. Still seem to pick up a thorn about every other ride, but that's just a given any time you hit Sac.
  7. I can't wait to see pictures/hear stories about all of those trips! Keep us updated! My goals are as follows: -Explore new water -Tie/fish new smallmouth patterns -Do some limb lining/jug lining for cats -Figure out how to catch river walleye
  8. You typically won't see me on the water without a neck buff, some sort of hat, polarized sunglasses, and a longsleve shirt. I really like the Columbia PFG button ups and their moisture wicking tech shirts (not sure what "model" they are). I still usually apply sunscreen to my arms, neck and face just incase. I know the topic of polarized sunglasses gets pounded up and down by every fishing magazine and website out there, but they are honestly one of the most important items you can have on the water. Not only do they cut down the glare, but they protect your eyes from missed hooksets and your fishing buddy's backcast. I can think of at least two incidents where I could have potentially had some serious eye damage had I not been wearing sunglasses.
  9. ^ I agree. I'm sure there is wasteful spending, but that happens in every aspect of the local, state, and federal government. If we looked at other facets of our government I guarantee you we'd find a lot more wasteful spending that what we see with MDC. I also love the way the writer pokes fun at publications like "Tricking Trout" and a recipe for Parmesian Squirrel recipe. Class act.
  10. These look great! I've been thinking about doing the same with an old Plano case I've got laying around.
  11. Really enjoy all of your hunting and fishing post BilletHead. I envy you!
  12. Great picture! Good for you for taking advantage of the opportunity. I pushed up a pond of about 30 greenheads in northern MO this past weekend. Too bad duck season is over for the northern zone. Hopefully, like mhowerton, this cold front will bring in some new birds to the southern zone.
  13. Looks good! I've still yet to shoot a goose, but I'll have to give this a try when I do.
  14. The stories I hear on this forum! Haha! Open the bottle!!!
  15. Lets hope! We've got it pretty good.
  16. Ha! I've yet to try it myself. I'll stick to my 29er on the dirt, but I will admit that those fatbikes look like a ton of fun. Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
  17. I'd like to bring this post back to life. Maybe after a year or so some of you guys might have seen some interesting stuff.
  18. I've been quitely on this forum for years, but I only recently started posting. You guys provide some great content and I'm excited to interact more. My name is Brent and I'm from the Springfield area. I enjoy wading the local streams for just about any of our warmwater species- especially with a fly rod. I'm beginning to dabble into trout fishing and I'm dying to land my first carp on a fly. I began tying my own flies about a year ago and I'm still packed full of questions, so bear with me. When I'm not fishing I really enjoy mountain biking, but when fall rolls around my mind switches to bowhunting. Hoping I can continue to learn and pick up a few tips and trick along the way. Merry Christmas everyone!
  19. Right!!! I didn't think about that. Probably so. It's pretty unfortunate too. Overall I believe that MDC does a pretty good job with our forests, fish and wildlife.
  20. I just saw this on Facebook and thought some of you might be interested. Quality Deer Management Association is running a deal right now where you can receive a $25 Bass Pro giftcard if you join. One year memberships are $30 and you receive a vehicle decal, a DVD on how to age deer, a magazine subscription to Quality Whitetail, and a bunch of other stuff. Basically getting 95% of your money back and some. QDMA has been a an advocate for deer related issues that have recently come up in MO. Giving money to non-profit organizations like this that benefit wildlife are almost always a win win. They don't have as many checks and balances as our state conservation agencies and can put our money to good use through habitat improvement, advocacy, education, partnerships, etc. Here is a link to their Facebook post about the deal: https://www.facebook.com/theqdma/photos/a.166664233346584.39735.161785573834450/894424467237220/?type=1 Here is a link from their website on how to join: http://www.qdma.com/join
  21. http://www.missourinet.com/2014/12/17/two-proposals-could-significantly-cut-missouri-department-of-conservation-funds/ I don't claim to be very knowledgable on politics and don't know the credibility of this source, but this just sounds like a dumb idea. Hopefully people pull their heads out and see what this would do to conservation and resource management in our state. Hopefully this gets taken care of quickly.
  22. I love my GoPro Hero 3+ Black. The remotes that come with the black are very handy when you're wade fishing. If you have a GoPro do yourself a favor and check out DIYGoPro.com. There are a bunch of great ideas for DIY mounts.
  23. Artificial hip?!? That's crazy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
