  1. Hoosier (hoo-zhur) n. pl. -siers. 1) a deragatory term for a slow, dim-witted breed of individual from the fine state of Indiana which in more recent times has been broadened to include an expanded geographic area, both urban and rural, throughout the midwest and Ohio valley proper, with highest concentrations being found at gunshows, and widely scattered pockets prevalent at Cardinals, Blues, Rams, Chiefs, and Royals games, Six Flags and Worlds of Fun, and associated venues that are responsible for soaking up disproportionate amounts of their discretionary income along with 60 month payments on a $20,000 ATV that they keep covered in blue tarps next to their trailer that glows and flickers at night with all manner of reality TV being piped in from the very mediacom wizards that seek to control their minds and Obamafy their soul.
  2. I think the bigger picture is this: The gun lobby's #1 customers these days are people just like Crocker. And there is more and more of them everyday, buying into the warped dream that they're selling, which is "protect your property, protect you and your loved ones, its your constitutional right and obligation to do so, protect your castle, and your neighbors castle, the government wants you unarmed and defenseless and they are going to steal your children" Hoosiers eat this stuff up and its why the gun industry is having record sales. That and the deep hatred for Obama and government in general. If Crocker didn't look quite so crazy, and if the circumstances were altered even slightly, that NRA LaPierre dude would've been on live national news from the Steelville courtroom steps, arguing for this guys immediate release.
  3. I was thinking the same thing. There hasn't been this much fun since the cops came a-lookin for you on the river. Speaking of which -- how is ole Prater doing these days?
  4. who are the ho's again? the rivers? how do we get the rivers off the street?
  5. Well, this Owensby guy has been entertaining anyway. Now he's went and made himself a martyr. "Phil, ban me!" Good for the jury. Sounds like Crocker never had much of a defense, or maybe he would've been better off pleading insanity.
  6. Yeah, well, better have lots of bullets. Ernie was up in the woods dropping a tree-log sized deuce.
  7. And oh yeah. I went fishing today. And I'm pretty sure I urinated on somebody's gravel bar. Shoot me!
  8. Dude, none of us said we were the jury. Its a fishing board. We lie, we speculate, we cast judgement . . . its what we do best. You wander in like Atticus Finch and get all sanctimonious on us, then go off on a tangent about protecting the rivers and rip on Justin. Wow. Who is on the crusade again??
  9. Seriously - what the? How is it like Trayvon Martin exactly?? and WHO has made that comparison?
  10. Nice video. Looks peaceful. You better put some shoes on or you're going to stub a toe.
  11. Nice fish and report, Jim. Heading down to the Big tomorrow. Hope the topwater bite is on and this cold doesn't screw it up.
  12. Will be interesting to see how sympathetic this Steelville jury will be. Personally, I think the guy should get first degree murder charge. Sitting there waiting with a loaded gun for the next floater to come urinate on "his" gravel bar.
  13. I don't know man. My little poodle mix, nicest dogg to everyone and all other doggs , for some strange reason attacked the neighbors prissy little yappin maltese last night. No harm done, but it could've been worse. They're animals. Sometimes things go sideways. I've met some Yorkies that were not the nicest either, but I agree in principal . . . pitbulls? yes, too much dna stacked against them, even the nice ones.
  14. Do they still have that old hand-drawn map of the lake thumb-tacked to the ceiling in the marina office? Many fond memories there, of sunburned Sunday afternoons sucking down Fanta grape soda, a snicker bar, and catching dozens of nice crappie off the end of that dock with micro-jigs whenever they first came out (early 80's?) We used to fish in the back of that marina cove all the time, but I never remember it fishing very well. Better spot was the northeast bank as you come out of that cove. Got in trouble once as a kid for casting from the shore toward the marina and pulled in a nice 3 lb bass. Remember a cranky dock owner coming out and giving the what-for as I unhooked the plastic worm from its jaw. Was the biggest bass of my life to that point and that old codger nearly ruined it for me.
  15. Interesting - can't wait to see those pictures of the redeyes. Oh, and I love the Wet Beaver! Maybe even the creek, too.
  16. nice pictures!
  17. Never saw the snake, but is that a catfish you caught?
  18. With bass you are going to have that drag set fairly tight to get a good hookset. Not sure what size roostertails you are using, but those small treble hooks don't offer a whole lot of grip on a bigger largemouths jaw, and especially if you hear your drag scream when you do hookset. Adjust your drag AFTER to have the fished hooked pretty good and you are playing it.
  19. Taxes have never been a problem. I just raise my arm and gave a yell, "hey cabby", and one is usually right there.
  20. Good post. I'm not having as much luck as others. In fact, I'm finding a real shortage of morels these days. And ethix too.
  21. I tell you what I learned. The increasing advantage that technology advances have brought to bear on these poor reservoir game fish is getting ridiculous and wondering where it will be in a few short years if not already hopelessly lost. And why not just fish with a large drag-net? A-rig stands for, well, insert your own word for A.
  22. Is the riversmallies site back up? Haven't been over there in a long time. Wish I could make it too, but will be out of town.
  23. "Current conditions" . . . . and "this coming weekend conditions" are 2 very different things. Currently, a lot of the smaller rivers and creeks are pretty high, but by the weekend, I think you could have your choice of where to go as long as you go for the upper sections, and as long as no more heavy rain falls. Upper Jacks Fork would be my first choice, but Black, mid-to-upper Current, Bryant Creek, upper Osage Fork . . . .
