  1. Paul Dallas here spinnin the tunes for you on a Friday evening. A little bygone tune from yesteryear that brings us right back to the heart of the purple metal-flake plastic worm days, in electric Blue Bayou. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvXPBC0t6Mk
  2. Paul Dallas remembers well. I began fishing with plastic worms long before they were cool . . . before the advent of the multi-drawered hinged tacklebox, long before foot operated electric trolling motors, and before Linda Ronstadt ever first sang Blue Bayou, and before Johnny Morris ever opened a package liquor store on North Glenstone and decided to sell a few fishing lures as a convenience item to go with your 6 pack of steel canned Schlitz . . . .
  3. This Ned Thread Is Dead and should be put to BED. Anyone with a GED or some brains in their HEAD and a hook with some brown or Red Lead could've invented the Ned, after-all, a bass isn't too picky about how it is FED, at least thats what Fred Said, or maybe that was Ted.
  4. MDC stocking schedule is all screwed up for the red ribbon section of the Meramec. I remember the biologist recently saying that they stock the browns in late spring for the intended purpose that is when recreational river use is the highest, and therefore would offer the most enjoyment for those anglers. They gave up on the river as a Put-Grow-And-Take fishery. Now its managed as a Put and Immediate-Take fishery. By the time heat of summer arrives, the water is too warm in all but the first half mile where the spring branch enters. And that area gets hammered and poached pretty good. If they did a stocking in late fall or early winter, when water temps have cooled back down and when pressure has eased -- those elusive browns might actually have a chance (at least for a few months) methinks.
  5. I like that one too. Makes quick work of a mess of Neosho strain SMB, especially when you got a mess of them and need to get back to the creek and get more.
  6. Same here. My wife bought me a canoe as a christmas/pre-wedding present back in 1994. Much like your fiance, I think she presumed at that time it was to be used for the occasional summertime float trip to the familiar and more popular rivers that we had already been on. Having a canoe has been so much more than that. Not only for opening new fishing opportunities, but for all the new places it has taken me. New creeks, new rivers, new adventures, winter time floating, white water floating, gravel bar camping, made many new friends that shared similar interests. I wish I had recorded a history of all the trips I have been on in my canoe, who I was with, highlights of the trip, etc. Hundreds and hundreds of great memories. Get that paddlers guide as someone suggested and start exploring.
  7. Answers: 1. No. Wade only. Its barely a creek. 2. No. But for a tiny creek with wild trout, I guess reasonably so. Don't expect 20" fish pecking at your feet and swirling everywhere like outlet 2 at Taney. Average fish is 5-9"
  8. Interesting Report Muzz And Although I Disagree With You That The Salem Hospital Is That Bad Since I Was Just There In January After Hiking A Friend Out From The River With A Tonka Truck Lodged Painfully In His Lower Chute We Found The Facilities And Services We Received There To Be More Than Adequate To Deal With His Complicated Issue And Certainly Well Equipped Enough To Deal With Stitching Up A Machete Wielding Pastor With A Swing Like Matt Holliday. Nice Weekend To Be Out Though Right?
  9. its as long as his entire torso and half way up his head. 36 inches??
  10. Its a nice fish for sure. But even the second picture, arms extended . . . you just can't tell if this is really a 19 inch fish, or a 22. And there is a big difference. Tape measures don't lie. Photos can be deceptive. I will see if I can post up a picture of my nephew with what looks like a huge bass from TR State park marina a couple weekends ago.
  11. Al - you had a great trip. Today was one of those rare 5 star days that I would've KILLED to be out on a river or creek somewhere. Big fish or no fish at all. It was an absolute perfect temp and no clouds after all the gloom and rain we've had?? Good for you with you and your wife. Would love to be on a gravel bar tonight with the full moon, the camp fire feeling good, and perfect sleeping weather in an open screened tent.
  12. I've tried a few other lines, but keep coming back to Maxima mono, usually 6 lb green, for my spinning rods. 4 lb for trout. Baitcaster, doesn't matter as much but I still prefer Maxima 12 lb.
  13. Very cool video. Seems unusually fast to me too.
  14. If you're fishing Tanvat and Baptist, the gauge at Montauk is probably more helpful since it is just upstream of those 2 areas. And Montauk is pretty much the headwaters. There isn't a whole lot of drainage above it (pigeon creek). http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07064440&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060 The Akers gauge is 15 or 16 miles downstream and several creeks enter in above it as well as the short lag or delay any heavy rain may have in affecting its gauge. My experience with the Current River is around 400 cfs and it starts to get difficult for wading. On the Akers gauge - I think it is somewhere around the 2.5 ft or just above that, when the National Park Svc will actually close the river to boating. If I were going this weekend I would WELCOME the rain --- it will only improve the fishing and decrease the crowds. It would take several inches of rain to make it unfishable, and then it would fall out pretty quickly (within hours) unless more inches of rain are received. As Nortrad pointed out, big streamers. Throw those Muddlers!
  15. You'll be fine. Unlike a lot ozark rivers, the upper Current takes a prolonged soaking to blow it out. And its been unusually low all spring. If the area does end up getting a lot of heavy, steady rain, keep an eye on this gauge and watch for sharp upward spikes: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/uv/?site_no=07064533&PARAmeter_cd=00065,63160,00060
  16. might try to make it down for at least a day and a night
  17. very pretty water. love that undercut bluff. where is this?
  18. Plano and Frabill wish to thank you for your endorsement dude.
  19. AMEN. The Jacks Fork has really taken it on the chin with all the unauthorized accesses. 20 years ago they weren't there. Now it seems like every time I go there it gets worse. Nice reports. Rocky Falls is cool. Will have to check out Klepzig - never been there.
  20. We used a scale like that back in 7th grade physics class. I would like to amend my earlier statement, I have no doubt that this incredible fish weighed 9.6 newtons.
  21. I kinda like "I could care less". I know its the incorrect use of the phrase, but it suggests a laziness of caring as if to say, I COULD PROBABLY care less, but I just don't give a durn enough to muster the energy to do so. That takes it to a whole new level of apathy, which is what we're really talking about here . . . and well beyond not actually being ABLE to care less. Did anyone notice the tirade on the guns that got put on lockdown? the word "infrindgement" was a good one. Got all technical on the constitutional references and then couldn't spell INFRINDGEMENT. ahahaha
  22. Ehhh. Feels like too much of an ad with all the product plugs. And then when he goes to the grocery store with his scale to prove that its accurate. I'm gonna go on record here and say that this guy is a big fat liar.
  23. I would probably eat it. Replicate the lords supper with me and KVD, Jimmy Houston, Virgil Ward, Roland Martin, Tom Mann all sitting around the table as my disciples. Have a friend snap a picture of me lathering it in tartar sauce and taking a mouthful, and then get a replica made of this feast scene. Maybe mount it on drift wood flotsam, or glitter fiberglass or a neon Budweiser. Something very classy like that. And sell it to Bass Pro. I could see it doing well in their catalog. $249.95
  24. Not really. Smalliebigs and I are cool. I know he likes his guns. So does Hoffmeyer. In fact, I went fishing with Hoffmeyer on Wednesday, and he had his 9mm holstered with him the whole time. Hoosier. I like most hoosiers, I really do. Wouldn't have them representing me in congress or living next door mind you, but they're for the most part, harmless. Don't pee on a gravel bar 381 feet from their property line and you might be okay.
  25. Stop right there. Based on that, I cannot automatically qualify him as a hoosier. Is he into Nascar. Do several ex-girlfriends or wives have restraining orders against him. Has he been injured setting off fireworks.
