A roll cast and patience have been my best help down there. They aren't super line shy as long as you aren't stomping around you can get away with line upping them. Great trip though I really like the upper access. Its very quiet. Congrats on the pb.
You pretty much nailed it on the rig! As far as bait, powereggs and nightcrawlers always catch fish, so do flies like he said. Dint be afraid to try fly rod mid lake as well. Creek mouths and eddies and around docks hold a lot of fish you can cast to.
I'll be throwing clousers that I tied up this week and maybe some maribou jigs under a float. I hope they start running soon with this warm streak. Then we just need the morels to pop and it'll be a meal.
Think mdc does its fair share to help our wildlife conservation and management! I agree with Mr Agnew in that I don't always agree with the decisions made. Like urban trout. This one seems silly. But they manage all my favorite access areas and keep them looking good. As far as money they don't get much anyway and there are other state branches that spend and waste more. Also love their publications
I've got agree with you guys on this. Tailwaters are like big neon signs saying look look I've got tons of fish! Truman is no different! Seen a hundred people down there every spring since my first visit with my dad in the eighties. And thanks for the lesson because that was really new info for that area...
Bscreek sounds a lot like crane in the summer. If you walk up on a hole and don't immediately cast it helps a lot. Also, coming from down stream up. I've learned on crane that your fly doesn't have to be tiny either, I throw 10 and 12 bhp and wooly buggers a lot. My success has come from making fewer more precise casts and waiting in between. Also not overlooking spots where the smaller fish can live. My two cents
Worms is the ticket! If they are really biting a brown and orange jig will work too! We had days we would catch fifty in an hour. Dad caught a n eight pound one in the early nineties though he had a smally on until it rolled up and played dead. I love that river
Fly fishing is great for this area! Get some waders and hit the creek. Crane in close roaring river not too far. Taney offers a wide variety of access to fish. Also the James isn't far from republic either. Good luck and welcome
I have heard that night is good but never tried after dark. Usually right before dark is when I get into them. I'd say a purple clouser would work good.
Three year a ago dad caught a 4lb Brown fromzone three and if you get down to Barclay you'll catch them. When I was a kid we caught a lot of Brown's from zone two and three. Susy hole always held some and still does from time to time. It would be nice. If they would stock more.
