Ok, I have been waiting for years for a good reason to use this...... not that this is a good reason, but I am tired of waiting. I came across this thing years ago and thought it would be funny to have it dangling from a rod rip during tournament take offs & weigh ins. It is a good conversation starter.

I have a short bed with a tool box, so with the tailgate down I have 6' of bed. I bought a 14' caneo the other day and hauled it home in the truck. It didn't look 'to' ridiculous hanging out the back. Of course I did have to use straps to hold the nose down and secure it in place. I can't speak about how ti floats, but mine appears to have plenty of room for the items you mentioned above.

Grab a 6 pack, some beef jerky, and spend the afternoon keying them in. Thats the only way I know to do it.

Hello Kee, Thanks for the sweet deal on a canoe! Maybe we will see you on the river this summer.

I can speak a little about the wilderness system yak. They are a very good all around, but the non-elevated seat on mine puts you pretty close to the water. If you found an option or model that had the taller fishing seat, it would be hard to beat. My son has a D10T Ascend which is the most stable yak I have ever been in, but it is also the most uncomfortable. I like to sit a little higher than my feet are, in his it feels just like sitting flat on the floor. Again, with an elevated seat this would be greatly improved.

Used Coleman Canoe With 2 Paddles. Minor Damage 100$Obo
MeatintheFreezer replied to Kee sims's topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
I sent you an IM. I am interested in it. -
Dad started me fishing before I could walk. He had an old Richline with a big home made storage box that fit between the benches. I would crawl in there and sleep when the fishing was slow. He taught me to love the outdoors and to enjoy just being there. It wasn't about how much you caught, it was about the experience. I remember when I got the drive that ol tiller steer 20 hp Johnston, I thought we were the fastest boat on the lake. We logged countless hours it that boat on every lake in the ozarks. Some of my fondest memories are of when we would go to Taneycomo and trout fish with canned corn for bait. I would usually eat most of the corn while dad and grandpa weren't looking - or acting like there weren't anyway. Now grandpa is long gone now, and dad is way up in years. His fishing days are over, and dementia is setting in. I carry with me everything he taught me over the years and now I am trying to instill those same values in my son. Whew......is someone slicing onions? I need to give dad a call and tell him thanks

I have had two experiences in my life where I have been in a boat with someone who has fallen over board in cold weather. I wanted to toss this out there to get a feel for how many times things like this actually happens. 1) 6-8 years ago I was fishing a bass club tournament in December with a retired gentlemen from Shell Knob in his boat. It was below freezing when we launched, a heavy frost on the dock & boats. We ran a few miles down the lake to our first spot. When he went to deploy his trolling motor, he stepped over his rods on the front deck placing his left foot on the edge of the boat. His foot slipped on the frost and he went right in. By the time I got up there, he was completely under water and in quite a panic. I grabbed him and began trying to hoist him out. I ended up pulling him to the back of the boat and used the motor trim to help lift him in. I bundled him up in my gortex and we ran back to the ramp. I stayed with the boat while he drove home and took a hot shower and changed clothes. He actually came back and fished the rest of the tournament, which is more than I would have wanted to do. 2) Last spring I took my dad to Stockton for some crappie. It was early spring, water in the low 40s, air temp about the same. We had only fished for 30 minutes or so when his coffee ran through him and he had to pee. He ended up losing his balance and falling in. I saw it starting to happen, but there was nothing I could do to stop it. By the time I got there, he was flailing around and didn't have any idea what was going on. I guess it was shock, but nothing I was saying was getting through. I got him to the fold down ladder on the back of the boat, but he couldn't climb up. He couldn't hang on to the motor enough for me to use the trim and lift him out either. I finally got him to hold on to the ladder while used the trolling motor to head toward the bank. Looking back at him, I couldn't see him any more so I was afraid he wasn't going to make it to the bank. Luckily we had made it to water that was 6 or 7 foot deep. I jumped in with him and was able to get my feet on the bottom and push him up into the boat. This whole ordeal probably only lasted a couple minutes, but it really took its toll on him. Most of the way home I wasn't sure if I should take him home or to the emergency room, but he finally started snapping out of it. The was, however, the last time to stepped into a boat. he said he was done after that. My question is how many folks have had similar experiences with close calls? Both of these events above nobody was wearing a life vest including myself, which has since become a mandatory piece of equipment for anyone in my boat. I honestly feel that both men would have died had someone not been there to help them.

Ha Ha, now that's funny! There is no telling what you might catch there. I am curious to see how many folks will look up your numbers.

Growing Morels
MeatintheFreezer replied to MeatintheFreezer's topic in Mushrooms and other wild edibles
It is somewhat involved during warm weather, but not to bad. You have to add a small amount of vegetable compost every week and keep it stirred up. The instructions were pretty strict on how much composting to do as you do not want the dirt to get to hot and kill the spores. No fertilizer at all, no dairy or animal scraps, and keep it moist. I did all that religiously through out the summer last year. Now I am in a waiting period until the little buggers start popping up. I will post pics if anything sprouts. -
Growing Morels
MeatintheFreezer replied to MeatintheFreezer's topic in Mushrooms and other wild edibles
Yeah, assuming that this kit I bought produces, I plan on doing that same thing. -
I have always loved to eat a fresh batch of morels with a mess of crappie fillets. I am pretty good at rounding up the crappie fillets, but the morels have eluded me for the most part. My main problem is that when ever I am hunting for mushrooms I keep thinking about how I should be fishing, and never spend enough time to find many. Most of my spots are on the lake, so I always take the boat to get there. This only exaggerates my anxiety to get back on the crappie. Last year I discovered that you can purchase mushroom spawn online and build a simple habitat in your back yard. I bought a sack full of this stuff and followed all the directions of composting and treatment. I am anxiously awaiting a bumper crop of morels in a few months so big & healthy I will have to chop them down with a hatchet. I bet they might even become a such nuisance that I will end up weed wacking them all down. In all seriousness, has anyone ever bought one of these grow kits for morels? I am just curious about the success rate and what I should really be expecting. By the way, if mushrooms do pop up I have armed security guards and 24 hour surveillance covering the entire area!

Now that's just mean.

I am the only one who posted a photo on this thread, so I assume you are referring to me as one of "these IDIOTS". I have also posted a photo on another thread about King's River, so I suppose that makes me one of THOSE IDIOTS as well & I have now ruined that arm of the lake, too? I dont know if you have been anywhere else on any lake in the Ozarks in the past 10 years besides Flat Creek, but they all have plenty of boats packed into any spot with a stick poking up out of the water. Even places I have not posted photos or talked about. As I read back through this thread, I can't help but notice that Lewis had asked about fishing upstream from a Bridge by Cape Fair. There are many miles of water that fit that description. The details of a few productive spots were sent via IM, and not visible to the masses. If that generic descriptions in the thread and a photo of one fish has offended your delicate nature then I suppose you will just have to be offended. Your opinion is your opinion and you are welcome to express it, but even us IDIOTS have opinions too. I will keep mine to myself and continue to enjoy catching fish whether other boats are around or not.

I sat in my boat today in the shop making boat motor sounds and dreaming of fishing in actual liquid water.

Saw On Cnbc Yesterday That Gopro Is Going Public
MeatintheFreezer replied to Blazerman's topic in General Chat
It is more than a coincidence that Go-Pro filed IPO paperwork the day before the olympics started. The olympics will be a platform for Go-Pro to be publicly introduced to a much broader audience. Blazerman - I would be all over their stock, Have you heard anything about when it will go public? I haven't dug around much online, but wasn't able to find anything quickly. -
What Is Your Biggest Crappie From Table Rock?
MeatintheFreezer replied to eyedabassman's topic in Table Rock Lake
This one was from 2011. It measured 16.5". Caught it on King's River. That's my biggest Crappie in Missouri. -
Looking For Pre Rapala Wiggle Warts
MeatintheFreezer replied to Alex Heitman's topic in Table Rock Lake
Balsabee, Loosely figured, that is $1000 worth of warts based on what they are going for on ebay. I saw 5 unopened ones last week go for $152, used are between $10-$15. Not saying you should sell them, just saying that people are chomping at the bit for them now. -
Thanks for the update. This weeks weather does not look like the ice will thaw any time soon.
-
Just crossed CC bridge this morning and the ramp was open. I saw a boat that I figure was some duck hunters coming back in. There was some thin ice floating around, but temps this weekend should clear that out. If the wind will stay under 40 tomorrow, it might be worth a try.

I wouldn't take my kids there to float or fish either one. It can get pretty ridiculous in the summer. You could compare it to spring break on a Panama City Beach......

Here are my two cents: I bought a new hummingbird Down Imaging/ gps combo last year new for pretty cheap (<$400). It is black & white, which is why is was cheap. Everyone is wanting color now days. I do not remember the model number, I will PM you if I remember to check it out next time I am out at the boat. Anyway, the DI does not show fish very well at all, but it really good at showing structure. A cedar looks like a cedar, not a rock pile. It is handy for understanding what the regular graph is showing. I can split the view to show combinations, normal graph & gps for example. Just about any graph that is set up correctly can see your lure as long as you have 320 vertical pixels or more. I can see my 1/16 oz jig tipped with a minnow easy enough. You can check this by "streaking". First, turn off any fish ID or alarms you have on. You may also have to turn your sensitivity up until you just start to get a little clutter. Now get your boat is still, drop your lure down under the boat 10 feet or so to make sure it is in the transducer cone. Jerk your bait up pretty aggressively several times while watching your graph. You should start to see a faint line on your graph that looks like a heart monitor. That is your lure. Once you learn to see it, you will know what you are looking for. Dont know if this helped much, but that is what I use and I can usually hold my own crappie fishing.

Lilleys' Lake Taneycomo Fishing Report, January 22
MeatintheFreezer replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Great report(s). I have noticed on some of your videos you have been posting that the fishermen are lifting the fish into the boat. Do you mind if I ask white size line you use? -
Wow, I never imagined I would need that much weight. I will stock up and give it a shot. Thank you!
-
I went up to a 10 oz sinker, that's the is the biggest I had. I think the giant mono I was using had so much drag it was lifting the weight. I really think that going to the braid will help a lot, since it is much smaller diameter. I never checked my speed, I am sure someone could run the math for a 26" prop X 10% slip X gear ratio X RPM X etc. It would be easier for me to just gps it this year and see. 4.5 is cruising pretty good. If you run a heavy drag you better be hanging on if you snag bottom! I will bring enough lead this year to experiment and figure out what works for my set up. I really want my boy to hook into one of these.
