  1. I wonder how often those petty rules and regulations get crossed and confused due to just how many there are. Similar to a lot of the rules in municipalities being crossed with county, state, etc. The incident with the stringer is in my mind a bit ridiculous and it definitely can take away the release of just enjoying the outdoors.
  2. There's an idea! Start sending email, letters, and calls to your reps
  3. i've caught a many bass on a zebco and johnson beetle spin on ponds. Never anything really big but always simple and fun way to fish.
  4. I agree on the rods and reels though i do appreciate the keep it simple and easy philosophy. I hope that should i hit 83 i'm still physically capable of fishing like this man does. Good article! Thanks for the share jerry
  5. I've tried using leaders on the micro magic rod i had and ran into issues as well. I couldn't seem to find a knot that would work well.
  6. yes you can use mono for jigs and plastics. A lot of people don't because the stretch that mono has and it doesn't sink as quickly. There's a lot of people out there who use mono for all types of presentations and have done just fine. Use what you can afford and what you like to use. I used to use sufix siege line for almost all of my fishing and always did just fine. That being said i normally use Yozuri hybrid soft or seagar red fluorocarbon now. As far as the lb test goes i think 15-20 would be about perfect for a mono.
  7. it's sad that you would attempt to dismantle the states conservation department over personal grudges and a failed bill that you wanted to push but i do believe that. I wonder if they realized this would have an impact on more then just hunters and fishermen. Anyone who in anyway enjoys Missouri's conservation lands stood to lose a lot here. Not to mention the jobs of many state employees and the impact that has on them and their family.
  8. now i dont know the back ground behind these bills or what the motivation was for them but they honestly seemed like absolutely terrible ideas and i cant imagine that many sportsmen in the state would have supported or endorsed this. Does anyone have any information about how or why these even came up?
  9. forgot to mention that i've always used a mono line for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and never had issues.
  10. As some have said..this is a good all purpose rod. Should work well for a buzzbait, spinnerbait, even jigs and plastics. I'd recommend fluorocarbon line for jigs and plastics since it tends to sink.
  11. looking at the amount of money that would have been lost from removing fees i have no idea why the state would even consider it unless they just want MDC gone completely. Taking the permits away would have also cut any federal funding if im not mistaken?
  12. Well there's two down!
  13. I PM'd you Ham
  14. there used to be some sold at walmart that had a matching jig head i'm trying to remember the company....i wanted to say it was lindy's but i could be wrong. I just found some made by winco lures called the stone cat system and they look good. Thanks for the suggestions Ham!
  15. my parents still own that property so when it warms up a bit in spring ill have to go back to the small riffles i found them in and see if there's any still around. And while we are on madtoms does anyone know of a decent soft plastic madtom to buy?
  16. well ill be working my 4 10's those days but it will be nice to have a change in the weather. Break out those super expensive megabass jerkbaits fellas lol
  17. That's an awesome catch man! congrats! I never expected any state record to come from that lake.
  18. I know a few guys around my area that use a similar rig in some tournaments with 4 and 5 inch senko baits. They also worked docks with them and done really well.
  19. accuweather is showing light snow in my area on thursday looked like around an inch but then clear and sunny for friday and saturday but highs only around 20
  20. we also occasionally caught them while seining for bait but always released them, they were just to cool to use for that purpose. I hear smallmouth will eat them like they're going out of style though.
  21. Growing up there was a creek behind my house where you could find madtoms. Not sure on the exact type but judging by the composition of the creek it was probably the freckled madtom. They're very neat little fish and i've heard adapt really well to living in an aquarium(though i have never kept them). They can be difficult to find but i always had luck finding them by turning over rocks, kind of similar to hunting crawfish.
  22. absolutely and well said terrierman. I still feel that area and the ozarks in general are absolutely beautiful and the majority of people are good, honest and hardworking.
  23. well said. Whats going on in Branson is on repeat nation wide. Meth production where i live is a major problem as it seems to be getting out of hand for many states with lots of rural areas.
  24. That does seem a little odd that there is a fair amount of people living in motels. Makes you wonder how many shady people are dwelling in that area.
  25. we could certainly save tax payers money by skipping all the years they spend sitting on death row and then being dragged out further by the appeals process.
