  1. Good read Cindyjo!! I have caught fish vertically jigging a spoon. I am still trying to learn the horizontal method. I probably dont do a very good job of using my electronics either. I had a buddy who just got back from Norfork Lake. they used jigging spoons for stripers. The guide told my buddy that stripers will come up and slap a spoon with its tail to wound the shad before feeding on it. thats why we fisherman think a fish hits a spoon but doesnt hook up. Dont know if that story is true or not i"m just putting it out there. I ordered some Dixie Jet flutter spoons the other day and cant wait to get back down to TR and try out the horizontal count down method.
  2. Thanks for the report inshore. Have not seen much on this forum page lately. Was thinking about going down next week for a few days. Last fishing trip before getting serious about deer hunting. Thought i might chase some walleyes around and do a little bass fishing if the eyes dont want to play.
  3. I dont know Pete Wenners but i check out his weekly Table Rock fishing report on Youtube. He seems like a good guy and this deed certainly backs that up. thanks for sharing.
  4. I am a fan now of Coach Buzz Williams and his Va Tech team. This is a wonderful country and Colin Kaepernick has the right to show/voice his displeasure of issues going on in this country. Just dont use the flag to do it!!!!!
  5. Priceless.
  6. It was illegal because of the concern of "dabbling". I guess they dont care anymore. I dont have room in my little 16 ft Lund. So guess i am out!!
  7. Somebody posted a great article on the Ned rig earlier this year. There were several opinions on why the ned was so attractive to bass. I cant remember them all but one was that it resembles a crawdad with no pinchers. Yes, I guess crawdads lose both pinchers. And with no pinchers the crawdad becomes an easy meal. The other one was kind of tied into the previous one in that the ned is simply not an aggressive acting bait so the bass find it very easy to attack. I've also heard it imitates the darter minnow. I've fished it quite a bit the last few years. Caught a lot of bass on it. I do believe it catches smaller bass most often. And yes, Dave makes the best ned rig head bar none!!
  8. Thanks boys for all the valuable advice. Quill: This guy also has Pflueger's available. I will check out the reviews on the Pflueger Patriarch. Thanks Sore Thumbs for your input. I have used this forum to obtain valuable advice on everything from sunglasses to base layer clothing. You boys are the best!!
  9. Thanks Ellros! I was leaning that way. I noticed they sell a Revo Rocket at the same price as the STX. 199.00. I notice they also sell a Revo Premier for 249.00. Seems that most of the price difference has to do with numbers of bearings. Any thoughts?
  10. I am in a fantasy football league with a guy that works for a fishing company. He claims he can get me some great deals on Abu Garcia fishing reels. I already own a Revo STX baitcaster. I love it! Light, fits in palm of hand, and I can throw crankbaits into the wind with no backlash if I take the time to get the dials set right. Perfect for those Rock Crawlers at the Rock in late winter/early spring. I could use a nice spinning reel now. One that lists for around 200 dollars that i can get a lot cheaper. Any suggestions boys? Thanks.
  11. I wear my Sorels when fishing in cold weather. With a nice pair of wool socks. They are not water proof but will handle light rain and snow. They are heavy. Intended for sitting in a deer stand or a duck blind. But your feet will stay warm! I fish Tanneycomo some in January. Got to have warm boots!!
  12. Great post Donna!! You summed it up very well. We continue to have these discussions on how bass tournaments should be conducted. I keep pushing for weigh, record and release. I realize this will be difficult at times. Love the idea of at least having people "police" tournaments. Its a start. Just so sad to hear about all the bass floating dead. We gotta change!!!!! Michael Jackson sang about it!!
  13. Glad your story had a happy ending. One question: If you had a life jacket on why didnt you just paddle yourself into shallow water? Have wife bring boat to you and climb right in? Just wondering. And once again, glad you are ok.
  14. Nice fish Dan!! 20 inch walleye is a nice walleye anytime anywhere!! Wish you would have shown us your technique with that spoon. Maybe you wanted to keep that a secret!! We had problems catching any 18 inch plus walleyes for several years. Cant explain why. So my buddies and I were pleased to see Stockton reduce the length limit to 15. We love to eat the walleyes but we do release any big fish. We harvest the 15 and 16 inchers. I would not have a problem with a zone restriction if it helps this wonderful resource. The MDC is now stocking eyes in Stockton every year now instead of every 3rd year I believe. I guess they want to help the guys who like to harvest them. But yes, catching a quality 20 inch walleye is hard to do for us. Very rare.
  15. Thanks boys! I will forward him this information. Stay cool!!
  16. A good friend of mine is in the market for a new depth sounder. I told him i would go on here and ask you boys what you think. This guy is very cheap! His wife gives him an allowance!! But lets not go there today. He just needs a very basic unit. Water depth with contour and a temp gauge is all he needs. I always value your opinions on fishing gear here on Ozarkanglers.com. Thanks.
  17. Amen Champ!! Very well put!!
  18. Very interesting. But I too will stick with my boy Dave. I love his jig heads and he has been good to me!! Responds to my questions, gets me my order in a timely fashion. The only thing wrong with Dave is that he is a Jayhawk!!
  19. Cant thank you enough Mr Babler. One of these days i would really like to come down there and fish with you. How long are you booked in advance?
  20. Great report. Informative as always. I have never fished that deep before. Jeez!! One question for you boys: How are you fishing that Whopper Plopper? I finally broke down and bought one and used it up here at Smithville Lake the other day. Do you guys pop it and let it sit? Kinda like a Pop R? Or do you buzz it like a buzzbait? Or just mix it up and let the bass tell you what they want? Thanks. Stay safe this weekend.
  21. Unfortunately, I agree with Champ. The bottom line is change is hard. But its also inevitable. Most of us on here love to bass fish. And we love that wonderful resource. When I hear of big fish kills at these weigh ins because of extremely hot weather it really bothers me. We need to keep pressing the issue!! Keep talking about it! Hopefully, someday even the old school will come around and realize this is the best thing for our resource that we love.
  22. I read yesterday that the MLB tournament at LOZ was a huge success. I guess the fishermen have swore to secrecy about totals and winner. All for the tv suspense I guess. The best thing I read was that they weighed fish and released the bass immediately! My hat is off to them!! With the unexpected high temperatures for June we all know it cant be good to haul bass around all day in a livewell. Sure wish we could get more tournaments to follow this lead. Anyway, I just wanted to give them a shout out for doing this.
  23. Congrats on your big fish and good for you releasing that big female. I hope you find a quality taxadermist for your needs.
  24. I just want to give a shout out to lmtout for being such a nice guy. I had the opportunity to speak to him last week at the boat ramp and he gave us some very valuable information. A lot of walleye guys are very hesitant to give up info. Not lmtout. Thanks lmtout.
  25. Sweet!! Look like the Rock Crawlers. Did you tell him I want a care package??
