Shouldn't be too challenging at all. I always like the first longear of the season. Then they can and do get in the way of catching different species. Though catching colorful spawning males does make them interesting other than just catching numbers.

I still have a few days to try a spot or two to possibly catch some fish that would be goals in 2020. So may be a week or two before I commit to 2020 goals. I do know that panfish especially odd sunfish, e.g., fliers, banded sunfish, dollar sunfish, etc., will be on the list again. Also still want more sharks wither from a boat or beach or both.

Lifers are any new species caught and added to a life list.

I should sell you guys crabs next summer! Of course folks are welcome to visit and come catch them before making the crab cakes 😀.

What are your fishing goals for 2019??
Johnsfolly replied to gotmuddy's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well I caught two new darters species - brook darter and a strawberry darter. Missed out on tessellated darter this year. Will try again next year. I did not yet catch a pike or musky. Didn't really get after them. Did catch a couple of proclaimed swamp muskies 😀. I missed the american shad run. Did catch hickory shad. Also got my daughter on her first walleye while shad fishing. No sharks this year either. Couldn't get a shark charter due to travelling for work. Did catch skates in the surf. Have to try again next year. I tried hard for bantam and dollar sunfish in southeast MO but caught none. Did catch my first warmouth and several red spotted sunfish down that way. Both were new species for me. Fishing the Texas bayous with @HamHe figured out where those redspotted hang out and called many of his shots on that species. I did not catch a creek chubsucker but did see one. No new sculpin. I did catch naked gobies. On the White in March I got to fish with @Quillback and got to net a bunch of his fish😌. Also fished with @LittleRedFisherman. Almost caught a brown trout with him and @JestersHK Also fished with @grizwilson on a cold blustery day when the fish just didn't want to play. I got to fish with an old friend @BilletHeadover the summer at Bennett's. Had a great Texas trip with @Ham. We also caught a lot of fish on the White when we got back into Arkansas. Both of us just missed a slam by not landing a brown. But did meet up with @snagged in outlet 3 up by the dam on that trip. My daughter did not get her fishing goals this year. Not sure how much I helped him other than being a cheerleader, but was with @Ham when he caught his last two species, ozark sculpin and northern rock bass, to achieve his goal of catching 60 species in 2019. There are still a few days left in 2019. So I won't go over the number of lifers or total species yet or the number of total fish caught this year. Those totals are currently the highest that I have ever achieved in a single year. More to come. -
You think that you hate it now, wait until you drive it!

Of course we are headed back to Maryland on the 29th . Going to have to pass on that weekend. Unfortunately due to timing, this will be another get together that I will have to live vicariously through your posts. Will feed the drive to get back out that way! I am currently pushing my wife on a Taney or White/Norfolk river trip in March.

congrats @Bluecollarfishin on some nice winter bass! Welcome to the forum! We like posts with photos or at least I do.

Last weekend we picked up a bunch of thick beef shortribs at the Farmer's market in Allentown PA. We made them on Weds. Dredged them on flour seasoned with garlic and curry powders. Braised them for close to 4 hours in Modelo dark beer and beef stock with garlic, celery, carrots, and mushrooms. Served fork tender and were delicious. Sat morning I decided on shortrib hash. I cooked some large chunks of onion until translucent them set aside. Microwaved some potatoes until slightly soft then sliced then cooked in a skillet with olive oil until browned and crispy. Set those aside. I browned the shortrib meat then added the onions back then minced garlic. S&P then put in potatoes. Topped with some sharp cheddar cheese and served with over easy eggs.

Congrats Lance3r. Great looking crappie and report! Always look forward to hearing how you do on Beaver. A great fishery for sure!

I don't have much to add since I do what Gavin says and I go trout fishing. Some trout spots like the Niangua may have smallies in the mix. I catch them on the jerkbaits or marabou jigs that I am using to catch the trout.. Win win in my book.

That's a brown trout that has big aspirations buddy. My kind of fish👍😀! Also he'll click as our friend @Ham will say. Thanks for posting some food and fellowship shots. Miss that actually more than the fishing this year. Living vicariously through these photos. Some belong in the "why I love this site" thread. Glad you guys had a great time and hope that I get to fish with you guys again next year.

@LittleRedFisherman congrats on a great cutt! Great looking fish!
-
Here's a couple more trout photos that I received by text. @Ham and @Quillback will have to provide details.
-
Heard that there may have been some cutts in the mix as well.
-
congrats @Quillback on a nice sucker! Sounds like you guys caught plenty and some nice ones as well! Ham didn't mention his boat partner when he was texting photos.
-
Looks like fun DJ. Glad that you guys got some fish in the boat. Nice variety. Sorry about no brookies. Can't wait to see what you get tomorrow.
-
@Phil Lilley thanks for getting this thread started. I've been seeing some photos off line. So there are fish being caught. Many had hardbaits in their mouths. Sure that after you guys get thru that fish fry maybe the photos will start coming in😀.
-
@Smalliebigs freakin awesome smallie!!. Congrats buddy! @Mitch f thanks for getting this post started. That's a great fish and worth of praise.
-
Bo congrats to you on a good trip and guiding your wife on some nice fish. I hope that she tipped the guide well 😌. I like taking my daughter and/or my wife on most fishing trips. If they out fish me which happens from time to time, its a win win for me. They enjoyed the trip and I get to fish more often😀!

Have to call BS on your armchair biologist distribution statements. Catch plenty of rock bass in the Maries over the last two decades.

When I was a kid, we were at my cousin's house. He and I were lighting sparkles on a roof next to his house. Well some unlit sparkles got dumped down a PVC drain pipe, which wasn't bad until a lit one followed. Set the drainpipe on fire. Black billowing smoke led to the fire department showing up. They cut a four foot section of the pipe off near the bottom and all was over except for the beatings. My cousin ratted on me when he was the one that dropped down the lit sparkle.

Used to fill plastic eggs with a CO2 cartridge and sterno. The egg would burn well then the cartridge would explode which was cool and would put out the fire. Win win for sure😀.

Always loved the smell of popped caps😀. Used to have the cap grenade. Would load that sucker with caps and throw it around when folks weren't paying attention just to startle them😌.
