Anybody made it out yet since the semi-cold arrived?
Johnsfolly replied to JestersHK's topic in Archery Hunting
@Seth congrats of scoring some Missouri groceries! that is a great looking buck as well as an awesome livewell of crappie! -
I count every fish on a trip no matter the size or species.

I calculate cost per fish only based upon license fees and stamps (trout park day passes, etc.). I do not include bait, tackle, boat fees, etc. just too depressing. So for MO - $0.08 per fish Maryland - $0.29 Virginia - $0.65 Tennessee - $5.05 Iowa - $6.73 Illinois - $17.50 (did not even fish during the three day license period ). Ohio - $19.50 - only one brown trout caught

I can't lie but I am a numbers guy. I track the number of each species caught and how many I caught on each bait. At least I try to be as accurate as possible. I would have to have four or five clickers. Instead I go through the list with each catch in my head then dump that into a spreadsheet😌. Someone once told me that I need a hobby when I showed then my fishing spreadsheets. I told them that this was my hobby 😁!

That's a whole night of fun right there😁.

Neons are partial to #26 hooks tied like a red zebra midge😁.

That's an awesome striper. Congrats Dan!

Listened to the Alice's Restaurant in four part harmony on our way back to Maryland . I laugh every time I listened to this song. My cousins and I used to listen to it when we got together on Thanksgiving. that song and Loudon Wainwright III "Dead Skunk" song were big hits when we were younger.

Lake Norfork Fishing Report 11/7 (Gamaliel Rec Area)

Another awesome trip buddy! Congrats on figuring out those green fish! -
That's an awesome wood duck drake buddy! That one would likely cost me $500+ because i would have to have it mounted. Congrats to you and the Mrs. on a couple successful hunts. Jealous here in Maryland.

Oct through April was always when I would fish the Current river often well below Montauk looking for brown trout. Closer to my house than Bennett's or Roaring River and better fishing than could be had outside of Meramec Springs. I would prefer Weds. Often on a Weds in Feb I would have a three or four mile stretch of the river to myself !

Congrats on a fine meal of teal!

Congrats to you and Bret! Sounds like a great time. Report needed some photos... just saying .

Congrats QB! I missed out on a chance for some big stripers here in MD. Next year need to find a boat. That spotted bass sure had the big eyes on when it hit that top water.

Bret glad that you could finally get out and fish some. Nice smallies buddy! Would love to fish with you some on the White during Jigfest.

Muddy Mad River - Ohio Fishing
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
We definitely had many jokes about heading into the hill country of Ohio. Not a mountainous state 😌. -
My buddy was puddle jumping teal and was down in a slough. Saw a beaver swimming towards him. Didn't think about it. Then the beaver bit the back of his leg. Cut through his waders but only just missed getting a chunk taking from his leg. I would have left as well😌.

Muddy Mad River - Ohio Fishing
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
Nope. It's my understanding that it's a put and take fishery. Not native and I don't think that there are any naturalized populations in Ohio. Not enough springs or tail waters to support a reproducing population. -
Great tutorial Marty! Clean shot to the head makes that body and front legs look like good eats! Using the scattergun, sometimes lose one or both front kegs😢.

Very nice bass on the jerkbait. Congrats!

One of my goals this fishing season was to catch some fish in different states. I picked up an Illinois license and an Ohio license to try on our way back to Maryland from Missouri. Illinois was a bust. It was pouring rain and got dark before I could actually get to where I wanted to fish. This summer we ended up on top of Taum Sauk to get to the highest point in Missouri. So i did some research and found that the highest point in Ohio was Campbell Hill which is near the town of Bellafontaine and is not far from the Indiana border. We stopped for the night in Richmond Indiana. I also found that one of the few trout rivers/creeks in Ohio, the Mad River, is also near there as well. Chance to kill two birds with one stone ! As we drove into Ohio, I started seeing some issues with my plans mainly the rivers were running high and muddy ! I had researched some back-up spots, e.g., ponds, lakes, just in case the stream fishing was a bust. We crossed the Mad river and it was also running high and muddy. Hoping that the head waters would be running a little clearer. We got to Campbell Hill and spent some time looking around the "peak", 1549 feet above sea level. I followed a map of fishing spots on the Mad River for public accesses. @JestersHK - check out madriver[1].pdf There were two access points in West Liberty Ohio. We headed to the Lion's club park outside of the town. There was a small tributary running into the Mad River. With the water running muddy, I decided upon drifting a worm at the confluence of two waters. I saw a couple of spooked fish in the tributary one was a trout. I drifted a #12 hook with a small piece of worm and two split shot above the hook just down stream of the confluence. I got hung and broke off the #2 line. I re-rigged and cast my bait just behind the shadow of a medium boulder. Got a solid strike and set the hook on a spunky little brown trout! Can just see it in the clear water below! Nothing like catching a nice little brown trout during a beautiful fall day. Maybe if the water was running clear, I would have tried some maribou jigs and caught a few more. Still was able to land a trout in Ohio.
