A friend was showing me his shed. He pointed and said that is my step ladder. I never knew my real ladder🤣 I seem to only get sick on the weekdays. I must have a weekend immune system🤣 I don't know why Marvel doesn't use the Hulk more in advertising. He is just a big Banner🤣

I caught this 7 pound brown today

I have heard that luck is when preparation meets opportunity! -
Only fished twice this year. I did catch that Ocean pout to put one on the Lifer list. The next 6 to 8 weeks will begin the push towards my 2022 goals.

I love multispecies and definitely have many more bucket list species than I will ever catch. This is a great article to achieve some of those catches while not blowing the bank. I got some new thoughts on a species or two 😉😁 https://www.themeateater.com/fish/general/10-bucket-list-fishing-trips-for-anglers-on-a-budget

@oneshot you should consider getting an Argo. You can drive down to the river. You can stay seated and fish. You can even drive it across the river 😉

A man and his wife went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. After the couple had a chance to look over the menu, the waiter came over and asked what they wanted. The husband said that they wanted the chicken surprise. When it was ready the waiter brought over a cast iron pot with a lid and set it down on the table. "Please Enjoy" After the waiter left, the woman noticed the lid lift up and she saw two beady eyes looking around and just as quickly the lid closed. She said to her husband that something was wrong with their meal. As he was looking at the pot again the lid lifted slightly and he too saw the two beady eyes looking around. He yelled for the Waiter. The waiter asked what was wrong and the man told him what they had seen. The waiter asked what they had ordered. The man responded that they ordered the chicken surprise. "I'm so sorry!" said the waiter. "I brought you out the peeking duck!" 🤣

Whether they actually feed on the crayfish in that area, they should hit those Rebel teeny craw crankbaits. I have caught a few and know a couple of guys that do really well in the smaller rivers with those baits. You have to get it near bottom. Don't pass up on larger size jerkbaits. Brown trout eat other fish including other trout, especially stockers that can be 6 to 10 inches in length. I have great luck with trout patterns, e.g., brown trout or rainbow, or colors that mimic the bait fish. Don't think that you have to use small baits to catch them, especially borwn trout. Marabou jigs in natural colors, olive, brown, orange, tan, combos of multiple colors, etc. in 1/32, 1/16, 3/32, up to 1/8 oz work well, especially if you are in a boat drifiting over and along structure. Again it needs to be near the bottom to be effective. Just give it a few slight bounces and pause, etc. as you are drifting. Once you start catching fish they will let you know what cadence and colors they prefer that day and those flow conditions. Good luck and post a report with some photos when you are successful.

A little reading for you flyfishing types, world record drum fishing in Louisiana. I seem to recall @Ham catching a similar duo of fish last winter 😉 https://www.fieldandstream.com/fishing/angler-catches-world-record-black-drum/

Do anglers with live scope harvest more?

Or just leave those of us that do alone. I don't need to be part of someone elses immature emotional crisis. -
US Trucker Convoy coming through Springfield next week
Johnsfolly replied to netboy's topic in General Chat
I'm not sure if I look back fondly on the CB craze or try to forget all the lingo ladened years 🙄. Hey Marty what was your handle? Honestly I never had a CB radio but a friend did. Wasn't ever as exciting as the song portrayed. -

Maybe if there was a covoy then this song may not have happened 🤔 The location has some relatability to the current situation as well for a family of coal miners😅 -
Pizza hut was always better than Dominoes IMO. So they got our calls to deliver back in Columbia. The one's around us herr in MD have all closed shop the last couple of years. Must not have been that well liked here 🤔 We don't miss them. There are still about ten pizza places. Mostly mom and pop shops in a town of 35K people.

Used mine for a few deer. Funniest time moving a deer was over 18 yrs ago. I had shot a buck about a mile from the road on public land. I covered up the deer and went to get my qife and the cart to get him out of the woods. My wife was 4 to 5 months pregnant with our youngest Livie. So we got back the the deer. I got it gutted and loaded on the cart. We headed back to the vehicle. There is a 5 strand wire fence between us. My plan was to get the cart over one of the wooden sections. We lifted the cart onto the wooden bracing. My wife had gone over the fence and I was behind t he cart/deer. As much as I pushed I could not get the cart over the wooden framing. With the butt blocking my view I could not see why it was stuck. So as I am pushing hard my wife saw the head was reason it was stuck. She pulled the head up and I since I was still pushing I pushed the cart and deer sailing over the fence and nearly on top of my wife and daughter🙄. So we were all safe and laughing that I almost killed my wife with a dead deer. Another time I was on private land. I had two antleess tags. I had a big doe come across to my side of the field. I dropped her where she stood with a neck shot as another doe and fawn group entered the field. The other doe ran off a little way and then came back and snorted at the dead doe. As she turned to leave I shot her in the chest. Instead of falling she ran over 80 to 100 yds away from the first doe. Both does were put on the cart. They easily weighed well over 250 lbs combined but not a problem getting them to the vehicle. So thankful for that cart.

On Board Ocean Explorer - 2/21/22 Belmar NJ
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
It was fun, especially when we were all catching fish. Since we had a target to bring home those bergall, I dropped down our hook sizes and that helped us keep catching whereas many folks may have only landed a few fish if any. -
I really disagree about substandard vegetables particularly when it comes to home-grown tomatoes. So much better than store bought. I know some that grow their own broccoli. Potatoes are somewhat of a waste of time unless you have a larger piece of ground. The main thing about growing your own is the opportunity to grow varieties that you can't get at your store.

Made pork fried rice with leftover pork loin, carrots, onion, and ginger. Sauce with a little mixing and soy sauce. Added in leftover yellow rice. Served with chicken thighs, carrots, onion, garlic and snow pea stir fry.

On Board Ocean Explorer - 2/21/22 Belmar NJ
Johnsfolly replied to Johnsfolly's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
Ok so here is the rest of the story. This was to be a blackfish trip and I will be honest based upon the last couple of reports felt that a legal blackfish was going to be rare. I made up rigs to go for possible cod and pollock which they caught the day before and shorter rigs for the plentiful "perch" or cunners/bergall. We kept a few on a trip last year and these are a tasty fish living up to that mis-identified monikor of "perch". Livie was rigged with a perch rig and got on the board first with a smallish bergall (Look Pete there's photos 😁). She caught another that went into the box. I followed up with one of my own. Now I didn't know this at the time, but this would be the first and last fish that I caught for almost 90 mins. I hung rocks, old line, etc. Seemed Like I lost over 3 lbs of lead at a rate of one 4 to 6 oz sinker at a time. Major frustration on my part. What was worse was that folks around me were catching ocean pout. This was a fish that Sue caught a year ago on this boat and that I wanted to catch ever since. So I got snappy with folks around me. I'm not proud. Then I got a heavy tug on the line and had a heavy weight coming up. I finally hooked and landed my first ocean pout. They are not a pretty fish but I think that this is a cool fish. Don't try and lip one or you might lose a finger in that big mouth of theirs due to their large teeth (look closely at the second photo 😉). Now that was accomplished I caught four more just to make sure. Sue also caught three, but Livie didn't get one and still without that species on her list. She didn't care cuz he was busy filling the box with those bergalls. She caught 15 total and kept 10. I caught 6 bergall myself and put three in the box. Sue contributed with two bergall in the box and a nice red hake or ling. Only three blackfish total were caught with about 30+ anglers and only two were keepers. The guy next to Sue landed one over 8 pounds and won the pool. If we weren't multispecies anglers and wanted to load the box with bergall we probably would have had a crappy day. Instead we enjoyed the nice weather and the pull on the line! -
Do anglers with live scope harvest more?
Johnsfolly replied to MoCarp's topic in Conservation Issues
Without slot limits the keepers in these lakes are the primary breeders. Removing them can have a very large effect in the populations. To me the bigger deal maybe be on the increased pressure put on those fish. Do they just keep going deeper or like what seems in bass populations move offshore and suspend. -

Ryan the point about Seth is somewhat misleading since he is a really good fisherman that has crappie and other fish figured out. Where a difference would be made are those folks that are not or were not good or great fishermen. Those guys may now be able to effectively target brushpiles they would have not known about. If they are now able to limit out there must be a greater effect on the crappie. -
Dave that is fairly disturbing 😅
