I caught native coppernose bluegill there but didn't post those photos. We also saw native mosquitofish, largemouth bass, and some native minnows. All the ones that I posted, the Oscar's, peacocks, Mayan, etc are non-natives.

There is a CA in Columbia (Three Creeks CA) that has divided the CA into multiple use areas. There is a designated hiking and horesback area that is closed to all hunting except during the firearms deer seasons. That information was on the CA site pamphlets and I believe that they also posted the appropriate parking areas around the gun season. I have not heard of instances where there were issues.

As hunters we are obligated to be held to identifying our targets before pulling the trigger. This guy should be charged in accordance to his failure to id his target. However additional help from the non-hunting community would go a long way in providing more safety in those multiuse areas as well. I put in for the city archery tags in Columbia and went to their mandatory safety meeting. Not once did I hear any discussion about the hikers, joggers, dog walkers wearing orange when in those areas. The one woman brought in her golden retriever and begged us to not shoot him. An orange dog vest would a long way in preventing any accidents.

A worm under a float would also be my first choice. A close second would be a small weighted glo ball that is brown or tan to match the pellet feed. Check the regs for that day. I seem to recall that for kids days that they dropped the zone regs to allow the kids any bait choice. If they are enforcing the zone regs, then you are probabaly not able to fish any of the synthetic baits in that zone either. With any bait and a child that young consider keeping the fish since it's likely to be a deep hookset. Fish power worms the same way as you do for reg worms. For power eggs I like to use #18 or #20 trebles and put one to three eggs on the hooks, but I fish them off the bottom. Under a float I would go with one and make sure that you have a split shot above the hook. Good luck and post photos😁

Outside his 5 County limit. Agree that those are way better fighters than 10 to 12 lb carp. For rhe AJ and Tuna even pound for pound are better fighters than carp.

An older gentleman was in a desperate need of a job. He saw a sales position had opened in his neighborhood. He didn't have any sales experience but figured that he was a quick learner and applied. He was hired and the sales manager said the job is selling toothbrushes door to door. Everyone needs a toothbrush so it's a pretty easy item to sell. The man went out to a large neighborhood and worked all day. He went to his manager and told her that he sold one toothbrush. She was mad and told him that he better sell more the next day or he may be fired. The next day he went to another larger neighborhood and worked all day. He told his manager that he sold two toothbrushes all day. She was furious and told him that he would be fired if he didn't greatly increase his sales. At the end of the third day she asked the man how many toothbrushes he had sold that day. The man answered that he had sold 1500 toothbrushes. She was amazed since no other salesperson had ever sold that many in one day. "How did you sell so many toothbrushes"she asked. The man answered,"Well I set up a table outside of the grocery store and gave out samples of chips and dip." After eating a chip the people responded that it tasted like crap. The man responded "It is. Would you like to buy a toothbrush?!?"🤣

We had a suzuki sidekick (prior to that model becoming the Geo Tracker) when we lived in PA and then in FL. Had 4WD and a soft top. Was not top heavy like the samurai and thus not as likley to want to roll. Was able to drive in snow and drove into woods to pick up a couple of shot deer. Had a great heater that quickly heated the car. Had to sell when we moved to N Ireland. Had 185K miles on it and was only on it's second set of tires.

We haven't made anything note worthy since we got back home from FL. I will share some photos or our meal in Key Largo. We tried to go to a local spot that served hogfish (as per @Gavin). However the place was packed, maybe because of the band. Ended up at the Pilot House. We sat right next to the water. The view didn't suck and we could hear the band from across the marina😁. Livie and I were seriously interested in the fish and crustaceans below the railing. They normallly give oats to the kids to feed the fish. Well we got two containers 😉. Lots of snappers and chubs showed up once those oats hit the water. Other notables were two nurse sharks, a 4' tarpon and a big sheepshead. We all had fish, not a surprise. Mahi fish tacos Sesame Tuna and Macadamia crusted mahi - apparently a preferred dish of Guy Fieri when he was their for DDD.

Japanese mortar shell found in St Louis area
Johnsfolly replied to Quillback's topic in General Chat
Used to hunt a spot in PA that was used as mortar range in the 40's. I have found cases and one whole shell while out hunting that area back in the 90's. I know that they closed it off in the 20's to try and clear that area. It still may be closed if they found it easier to just keep people out instead of sweeping out the oridinace. -
New Alternative State Record Redear Sunfish!
Johnsfolly posted a topic in General Angling Discussion
I wouldn't go bowfishing with this guy again 🤣. Missouri man steals redear sunfish state record from friend Alex Phillips was bowfishing with the previous record holder when he shot the fish. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) congratulates Alex Phillips of Ash Grove for becoming the new state record holder under alternative methods for redear sunfish. Phillips was bowfishing at Table Rock Lake April 28 when he shot a 2-pound, 1-ounce fish. The previous record, caught by Phillips’ friend Josh Cole, was a 1-pound, 12-ounce fish caught nearly two years ago to the day. “It’s quite a story,” laughed Phillips. “I’m a fabricator and had just finished outfitting Josh’s boat for bowfishing. He asked if I wanted to go out with him that night, so I did, and we ended up shooting a lot of fish. Things were slowing down when Josh said he wanted to check that spot where he caught his record sunfish. I just happened to see four of them together – one of them looked like a dinner plate!” Phillips said after he shot the fish, both he and Cole originally thought it was a bluegill. “When Josh figured it out, he just let out this big sigh and then we both started laughing,” he recalled. “It’s just too funny because we were on his boat, he took me to his honey hole, and I broke his record.” MDC staff verified the fish’s weight by using a certified scale at Chesapeake Fish Hatchery near Mount Vernon. This is the fifth state record fish recorded for 2021. Phillips said he’s planning to mount the redear sunfish. When asked if he has plans to go back to his friend’s honey hole to get a bigger fish, he responded, “I have more plans to keep Josh out of there!” Missouri state record fish are recognized in two categories: pole-and-line and alternative methods. Alternative methods include: throwlines, limb lines, bank lines, jug lines, spearfishing, snagging, snaring, gigging, grabbing, archery, and atlatl.
