  1. Wrench You just mentioned carp☺!
  2. I am bringing pumpkin and cream cheese bars for snacking ir dessert. Haven't had much luck on finding passable exotic mushrooms to batter and fry. Most of the local oysters i have been seeing in the bins are dry. I've got one last place to look in town. Willing to bring down more pedestrian varieties if wanted. How we doing on bags, napkins, plastic forks, spoons, etc?
  3. Now I do process turkeys that way if I am not plannnig on roasting the bird. You simply skin the bird around the meat you are going to remove. I start with the breast and do remove some feathers so that they don't get stuck on the meat. I don't do this in the field but after I get the bird home.
  4. Very nice fish. Congrats on getting them to bite the bizzbait!
  5. Trophy size and quality is regionally specific. This is an Ozarks fish of a lifetime. With the skill of folks using reproductions, there would be no reason not to get this mounted while the fish gets to swim away.
  6. That is a big smallmouth! Congratulations to the lucky angler!
  7. I have spoken with Robert Hrabik (currently working a revision of the Fishes of Missouri guidebook) and he basically stated that the rock bass in SW MO are a mess. There have been lots of bucket migrations and possibly a fair amount of hybridization. I have not counted scale rows though have been inclined to do so for other fish id work. With rock bass I have fished in the traditional locations for each of the three species and tended to avoid cross over areas. Not yet Phil ! I'm working on it. Here is a listing of the sunfish, i.e., Centrarchidae family, that I have caught so far. Except for the redbreast, pumpkinseed, shoal bass, redeye bass, and the Florida largemouth, all of these I have caught in Missouri or Arkansas. Common Name Species Shadow Bass Ambloplites ariommus Ozark bass Ambloplites constellatus Northern Rock Bass (goggle eye) Ambloplites rupestris Redbreast Sunfish Lepomis auritus Green Sunfish Lepomis cyanellus Pumpkinseed Sunfish Lepomis gibbosus Orangespotted Sunfish Lepomis humilus Bluegill Sunfish Lepomis macrochirus macrochirus Hybrid Sunfish (B/G) L macrochirus X L. cyanellus Longear Sunfish Lepomis megalotis Redear Sunfish Lepomis microlophus Shoal Bass Micropterus cataractae Redeye Bass (Coosa) Micropterus coosae Smallmouth bass Micropterus dolomieu Smallmouth bass - Neosho Micropterus dolomieu velox Spotted Bass Micropterus punctulatus Florida Largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides floridanus Northern Largemouth bass Micropterus salmoides salmoides White Crappie Pomoxis annularis Black Crappie Pomoxis nigromaculatus
  8. Congrats Phil! That's definitely a keeper. Best wishes to mother and child!
  9. It's because the cows are grass fed! Oh it's Ireland, all of the cows are grass fed! Just didn't see a lot of corn grown there .
  10. Anyone catch one of these guys? It's on my son's bucket list - the only fish that he really wants to catch. Could cost me a small fortune to get him on one.
  11. How about this one that I actually caught.
  12. page 2 Without geographic context - shadow bass and Ozark bass Third and fourth fish - not sure last one possibly a blue spotted sunfish.
  13. Page 1 First four - redear, bluegill, green sunfish, and longear. next five - looks like a green / bluegill hybrid, orangespotted, possibly a warmouth, possibly a flier, and a redbreast sunfish
  14. Griz - I'd love to get out and fish on Thursday. I'll PM you my phone number.
  15. I'm sure that you will get there buddy! Who knows, maybe someone we know will try to catch a crappie in Stockton for 12 consecutive months !
  16. Dan congrats on the two nice crappie! Always fun to catch fish whether they are shorts or not. Glad to see you getting out on the water.
  17. Planning on heading down Thursday morning and should be in the area around noon. How early can we get into the lodge?
  18. Very good news indeed!
  19. Ketchup from a conservation stand point, we should be encouraged to harvest the younger does especially. These animals are the most likely to die during the winter. Up until that time they would be competing against those older animals that are more likely to survive if they did not have to compete with the younger and more abundant deer. I also understand from a buck standpoint letting the deer mature and pass on their genetics is just as important for a well managed population. I will never fault anyone for harvesting a legal animal. Good luck and if you see them just shoot away. Just let me know if you don't want any of those bad parts of the deer like the hams and shanks !
  20. I shot a fawn doe during the urban season about 10 years ago that could not have been more than 60 lbs wet. I carried her to my vehicle on my shoulder. I kept one of the hams fully intact (with the bone in). After some back and forth discussion with Chef Scott Leysath (now the Sporting Chef; at the time was on Hunt, Fish, Cook), I prepared an injectable marinade with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil and injected the meat. I cooked it to medium rare and served it for Christmas dinner. that was one tender and tasty venison meal. Just describing this is making me salivate !
  21. That's more like it! Nice rainbow by the way !
  22. Sounds like you guys did pretty well for a three hour fishing trip! Congrats to all of you! You do have to be a little less camera shy and post a few more photos☺. I mean a 3 lb rainbow and we get to see a small brown trout photo. Out of Buzz's 15 fish total at least one had to be photo worthy☺! Don't know where I will be next year but will put down a possible trip to Capp's for Ollifest XII!
  23. Looks like a great day to be on the lake! Always a nice bonus to catch a few fish as well.
  24. My personal preference is to hang my deer for three or four days to allow the muscles to go into rigor and then loosen again as the weight pulls the muscle fibers apart. Unless I am far from a road or have a big animal that needs me to pack out the meat, I wouldn't break down a deer that way on a regular basis.
  25. Very nice. Congrats!
