John will plant a seed that's hard to come back from lol. He is a great patient teacher. Congrats on a nice trip and love seeing these kiddos out fishing.
-
Man your fish you catch sure have some shoulders on them. You've posted just some beast tall rainbows... I'm jealous as I'm sure they were an absolute blast on the long rod.

Probably the first day without a Marty forced lobotomy at the BH ranch in a long time. I agree the spoils of war left me wishing I knew how to knap and make sauce lol

Heads up on cheap Orvis Fly Rod
JestersHK replied to JestersHK's topic in General Angling Discussion
Def not gone... I bought some of the buggins spray. It kept them from biting me as bad, but still just swarming all over me... Never experienced bugs this bad in my life. -
Man that looks like a fantastic time with great company. May those new pointy bits live in perfect Harmony amongst that famous bear whistle in the house of @duckydoty! How late is too late to get in on the MartyQ leftovers lol
-
I'll do my best. We'll see may be bank fishing if they keep non stop generation up... We def should buddy! If they kill that water get out there with a jerk bait and work it slow. I sent ya my methods a while back. Should be able to whack em good on the slow retrieve at night. SIO3 buddy if I didn't have 3 of them I'd prolly be retired and living in the woods already. Wouldn't trade em for anything in the world, but man they sure can be expensive little pets LOL

I hear ya there buddy. I'm pretty lucky as my wife is overly practical, no jewelry which is a hold over from her nurse days, not into $500 purses or the like, and I have to force her to buy stuff for herself. Now her buying kids stuff thats where it gets interesting...

HAHAHA with my Fred Flintstone feet they'd likely throw us all out the salon... If you see me fishing during the day, just know its costing me money LOL. Never leave the wives alone at the outlet malls, they are even more dangerous in pairs... Oh and @Phil Lilley your prediction looks to be true. Looks like they ran all units all night last night.

Float Camping Gear Advice
JestersHK replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
Phil I have the smaller version of this. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B012YUJJM8/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=anker+solar+charger&qid=1561040653&s=gateway&sr=8-8 There are a ton of knock offs available too now that are cheaper. Anker makes good gear though, I've only used mine a few times when I was really out there and it has molly loops for securing onto the back of a day pack. Thats how I used mine anyways. When I wasn't charging phones I had charging bricks plugged in to stay topped off. Should work just fine for charging camera batteries as long as the cable is USB. I also have a hand crank weather radio that has an internal battery and USB charge port. That way if you don't have any sun you can manually crank to charge. I'll drop it off this weekend, You're welcome to take it with ya. -
Shoot I might as well just cancel this trip lol... Put him on a sea monster will ya! And you better hide or use that bbq sauce before I get down there or it might disappear haha 😋

Nice job! Some real nice smallies too!

Heads up on cheap Orvis Fly Rod
JestersHK replied to JestersHK's topic in General Angling Discussion
Well I broke in this new rod. Seems really nicely built. Came with decent fly line and even had a leader on it already. I headed to our little local pond and popped two gills on top water before these darn stupid Buffalo gnats ran me off... Oh well, stink is off it. May try to swing some streamers at Taney this weekend with it. -
Dang timing sucks again... Swing by my pond on your way out and catch that sturgeon lol
-
I've been watching TR slowly creep up. Just thankful you guys didn't get the 6 or 7 days straight rain they were calling for earlier. The crazy weather forecast changes just about every day too lol. Looks like they've been going full blast or off... I'll keep my fingers crossed for no gates, or I may be coming to see ya about renting a boat.
-
That is fantastic news! Glad you are still with us! A true warrior.

Dang buddy... Now I wish I was going down a week later. I'll get them warmed up for ya lol

Glad you guys had some success. Too bad on the big ones... You running super light tippet? -
Heading down Friday morning for a weekend without the kids with some friends of ours. Will be my buddy's second time trout fishing with the first being the last time they came down with us. He did catch a 21in rainbow on a jerk bait on I think his 3rd fish... Lucky dude. I'm hoping the rain holds off and looking forward to fishing this generation pattern they've seem to be sticking to. Some night fishing for sure and if we can keep the wives entertained may be able to sneak some daylight fishing in too. Looking forward to it and hopefully I can find some brown fish and maybe some Walters... If anyone wants to chase some at night with us just shoot me a pm. The more the merrier.

I hear ya there. My kids are getting older youngest is 7, I think what really brought me back to fishing was doing the whole trout wade fishing thing so thats what I prefer. Plenty of creeks around our area to wade in, and ponds to work as well. I feel like I fish way more because I do not have a boat if that makes sense... My oldest said she'd rather be in the water versus in a boat, and I think for the most part I feel the same. I do enjoy boat fishing, but its just a totally different experience for me. As for ownership its just way easier to rent one on those times when you can't wade at Taney for instance. I am also bad luck prone when I get into a boat as a few members here can attest LOL. For whatever reason I have had some crazy bad luck days on boats. They don't quite call me a banana yet but I really set my bar low when I get out there. Theres a few exceptions (cough cough @Seth) may have something to do with daytime versus night time too. Seth can attest the previous CAM tournament I fished okay the day before and the day after, then the day of the tourney I ended up a broken man...

My views on it was that for me it did not make financial sense for a boat purchase. The storage, upkeep, travel that keeps it to a weekend trip at best, the juice is just not worth the squeeze. Way cheaper to rent one at a destination... I had a chance at inheriting my father's basscat, but i turned it over to my BIL. Don't regret that decision one bit. A river jet would be the closest I would get and even as much as i try to fish it would still be hard to justify. I still see a ton of boats in the area every weekend though. 50k boats behind a 50k truck so some folks obviously have it figured out. Cost aside I could swing that but again I just cannot justify it at this point in my life.

Cabela's has Orvis Encounter flyrod with reel for $99 Only the 9ft 5wt is that price. https://www.cabelas.com/product/ORVIS-ENCOUNTER-OUTFIT/2959409.uts?slotId=1 This is their beginner combo setup that usually runs $169 and comes with rod, hard case, and a composite large arbor reel spooled with their clearwater fly line I believe. Probably can't beat a beginner setup anywhere near that price. Basspro still has them at $169 so not sure whats up, maybe last year models? Just though I'd pass it along as myself and a few guys here at work already picked some up.

Dang, gonna be at Taney that weekend, or I'd try to venture down. Someone needs to strap on a GoPro and document all these fine fishing specimen in their native habitats LOL. Just do go full on Nat geo on us, try to keep it PG-13 at least

For stripping flies there I've had my best luck with Gold head olive wooly buggers. For whatever reason they outfish the other patterns for me. Zone 2 is a great area just past the bluff wall as the water starts to speed up, Also in the faster water below the dam area. Lots of spots up in zone 1 too, you know how to read the water should be able to find lots of spots pretty easily.
