  1. Bill, thank you for the report. This is good news to hear. Mike
  2. Nice report. So that is what a SM over 3 lbs looks like. Nice to see one in the dam area. WW bite, yeah baby!!! bring it on. Mike
  3. My neighbors decided to fish Brushy Creek near Long Creek Marina on Saturday. I gave them a few of Dave's 1/8 Ned heads rigged with a PB&J. They sent the attached photo of a nice catfish the wife caught on her 6lb light action outfit. WT was 80 and they also caught a couple of nice SM keepers from the same bank. CR to GR type bank. <10 fow. I think there are 2 more in the fold on this bait. Mike
  4. Bill, thanks for the report. Good to know they are not only on points. Mike
  5. QB, I rig them flat side down. I also use a slow reel but now based upon what fishinwrench said, I am going to look through my older reels to see if I have a slower one. Makes sense. Mike
  6. I knew you would recognize my description!!! lol Mike
  7. We put in at Moonshine on Saturday morning at 6:30am. We went to a certain cove across from the state park marina. We began fishing a point on the left and caught a keeper sm on a DT16 in blue gill color in 14 fow. We moved into that small cove past the dock with the green roof. We were gonna fish the bend of the creek and when we threw our lures, a black lab and golden retriever came out of the woods, jumped in the water and swam towards our casts. Decided the dogs owned that part of the cove so we fished our way out of the cove. Caught another keeper sm on the way out on a PBJ Ned. Thought it was going to be a good day. Then the ski boats, jet skis and the pontoon boats showed up at 7:25am!! A pontoon with 12 people pulled up on the point that we were fishing towards. 5 people jumped out of the boat and began playing in the water. We decided to give the lake up to the boaters so we went back to the dock. I hope to be back fishing later this week, Thursday and Friday morning. Mike
  8. I hope to be out there in the dam area this weekend also. I'll be in the maroon and silver Ragin Cajun with the 150 Johnson. A couple of weeks ago had success on the bluff ends and transition banks. it appears the water temperature will be in the mid to high 70s this weekend so i hope to see some top water action. Good luck in the Indian Point area. I love that cove and the coves on either side. Mike
  9. I agree with 5bites. I have them and sometimes i use them and sometimes i don't. i am more concerned with color than the sound. I think the sound of the jig head dragged across the bottom works. Mike

    Cape fair 8/30

Nice pics. A real assortment of lures used to catch those fish. Look's like a good time. Mike
  11. It makes me wonder why only certain fish of the same species die during this circumstance. Why don't they all die? HMMM....... Mike
  12. Thank you for the report. No one has great success each time out. I agree with Champ that Bill's posts are honest and accurate. Speaking of the Sunday morning storm, I planned on fishing early in the morning in the dam area but that lightening kept me away. So I selected a couple of chores to do instead. Hopefully next weekend I can get out in the dam area before the end of the season boaters. Mike
  13. Bo & Linda, nice pics. Good to see the night bite still on. I watched the moon on my drive down from STL last night and then it disappeared when we got to our house here at TR. I thought I would get a chance to sit on the deck and have a few pops with my wife enjoying the moon too, but only clouds. It was still a nice evening. I hope to get out in the morning near the dam. Mike
  14. The reason sounds too technical for me, so it must be true. it just makes me fish with a little more intensity. One more obstacle to overcome. As long as there is one fish left alive I'm chasing it. Mike
  15. Cody, what a proud time for you. Brings back memories for a lot of us. Mike
  16. Bill, thanks for the report. Sounds like a fun time even though they were small. Mike
  17. You are certainly correct about this weekend's boat traffic. Normally we stay in the dam area but a friend invited us to go on their runabout for a trip up to Aunt's Creek and back in the afternoon. Holy Cow!!!! between the boats who decide that the bend in the middle of the lake is exactly where they want to hang out and float, to the boats that want to burn all their gas by pushing water as hard as they can, we decided to stay to one side and get out of their way. As far as the bass boat getting on plane near a dock, that is just rude. Mike
  18. I finally got some time to fish Sunday morning. We went out at 6:15am from Moonshine and fished both ends of the bluff around the first point north. We stayed until 10am and had a blast. While we only caught 1 SM keeper we caught 27 total, mostly SM but an occasional LM and KY. I caught a 14" LM on a fire tiger 16DT. One SM on a brown jig and grn pumpkin trailer. The rest were on the 1/8 Ned PBJ, New Money and Canada craw. all three produced equally well. WT was 84.7 with about 3' visibility. The fog rolled in so we did not take the ride to Beardsley but had too much fun on the bluff ends that really did not need to go that way. Abkeenan says there are no fish in there anyway. I have to say that the SM in the dam area are abundant and i am going to have to read up on SM tactics. although it is hard to put down the Ned when you are having that much fun. Mike
  19. Bo, nice report. thanks. great pics, especially the one with your dog posing while looking at your fish!
  20. This thread is a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for the information. Bo, great report on the lower end.
  21. Thank you for the recommendations. This is most helpful.
  22. This forum has been helpful in the past about fiberglass repair, etc, so I am reaching out to see who I can trust in the TR area to do some re-wiring on my boat. I bought this '87 Cajun earlier this year and I need to have the wiring checked. I appreciate any recommendations.
  23. Alex, Nice trip and pics. Nothing like spending the day on the lake with your dad. Catching fish is the bonus!!!
  24. Bo, nice report thanks for the update. While i have not been out in about 3 weeks, i noticed that the weekends at Moonshine are crowded. my neighbor went out last Sunday morning and boated a nice >5lb LM and about a 3 lb SM in the cove next to the Chateau. Both on a frog in the flooded timber. I see that the COE hopes to have the lake at normal pool by the end of the month so i am looking forward to going again then. High water gave me time to catch up on some chores around the house.
