Delaware Town to Shelvin or Shelvin to Hootentown?
dan hufferd replied to MObassin95's topic in James River
How long does it usually take to float and fish? It looks to be about 6 mile, 6 to 8 hrs? -
Interesting !

I love all those rivers, time and distance are the limiting factors. -

I am looking for some new adventure, walleye are my target species. Sure would like to check the river walleye from a kayak box....dreaming I know. -
Sound on for the video, just some peaceful nature sounds, no big fish video....this time.

Do you have a M1A ? I know it is not what you are advertising.

So should we all get together for some exploring, now that the most of the summer gang is gone? -
Caught, 6 small mouth and 3 oddly marked goggle eye. I have not been on the James in 35 yrs so it was nice.

I am curious to rediscover some of the river I used to fish as a young man. -
For sure happy birthday!!

I saw a bunch of fry in the shallows, I'm not sure what they are but you can bet that on these full moon nights every fish in the lake is eating well when we sleep.

Nope, but I still think the "green" agenda is a con😁

After wiring up the honda si for trailer lights (bet you've never read that before) I had to give it a go, I was hoping to find a river arm out of the wind, but to no. So I put in at mutton creek north hoping to stay out of the wind a little. It was a little work out but not bad. 1st cast yielded a smallmouth that got off at the boat, pb&j trick worm, next came a flat head on a #7 shad colored crankbait, as well as this 15 inch bass. No electronics, no batteries, no motor, lots of fun. In the boat by 3:30pm out by 7:30.

It sounds counterintuitive, but riding my bike always seems to help. In about two sessions I'm feeling better. I'm covered in work or I would come up and help you. I'll try not to drop stuff behind the transom this time

I've waded chest deep water, in just shorts and tennis shoes, stood a few minutes to get that cast in just the right spot, I have had cottonmouths swim just a few feet from me, see me, then dive under water. I just keep fishing. I will say this, if I had seen it first, I'm not sure if I would have went in right away. Copperheads float too, I once saw one fall off a bluff, into the water. I don't think it was part of the plan, it got out asap. I was told as a child that all poisonous snakes float (most of the body) when in water. I have not seen all poisonous snakes so don't know that for sure.

Yep, they are like humans without a soul

I was able to take my aunt on her first kayak fishing trip for her birthday, she is 70 something, and gets around very well. We did not get on the water until 3pm off by 7:30pm, after the learning curve, boated 3 keepers, and lost a pretty good one, pb&j trick worm, #5 size shad like crankbait was the ticket for us. East end of Springfield lake. God used this woman to change my life, she is still teaching me, and others about the love God has extended toward us. God Bless you Carolyn on your birthday ! P.S. there are plenty of pawpaws around Springfield lake.

The same habit and habitat seem to apply in tablerock there are just about 10 feet deeper many time. Stockton was a good teacher and of course all the kind folks on this forum.

Got a late start, I'm an hour and a half from the water. Anyway got the boat in by 8am, walleye and gills were my target, jigged a spoon, had some interest but no takers. I usually don't fish the gravel much, but I did find 3 short walleye 17 1/2, and 3 gills before 10am. All came off gravel run outs with steep drop offs. Bottom bouncers and jig and crawler. It was super hot by 10am so the wife and I drove the boat around a bit to blow the cobwebs out, it's been over a year since I have been in the boat ! Anyway maybe I will get back out in October. I'm happy I still remember how to find them, and I didn't get skunked.
