  1. I had one, my son uses it on his boat now. Make sure the water clarity is set right, and the transducer should be in the water all the time even when up on plane. You will not be able to read the bottom after 30 mph or so. What problems are you having?
  2. Very nice ! Thanks for the post.
  3. I love this kind of terrain that Southeastern Missouri has to offer. In my youth I used to do a lot a backpacking in and around Johnson Shut-ins, that was before the Tom Sauk reservoir broke, very similar looking terrain, well it used to be. I am not a trout/ fly fisher man, but that 1st video makes me think I should explore the sport. Great article !
  4. I love mine I would add to the CONS no read out on the hand held control. I don't have mine wired to the depth finder so I am always looking up front to see if it is on. I have the 80 it will keep two men in a loaded deep v on the spot in a 20mph wind. Not what I want to do but just in case you need it's there.
  5. I take my wife to my favorite fishing hole, and she tried to brake my pole with this 18" bass. A great way to spend a Sunday after church !
  6. No matter how much fishing I do in a lake I think I will always look for little honey holes on the creeks and rivers. I just love this kind of fishing ! Thank you Lord for making all this for me !
  7. Holy cow! She's a dandy !!
  8. I talked to Bud today, he said he sold the live bait portion of his business last year, but he is in very close contact with the new owner, like 3 times a week, so if you call he can hook you up. Sorry for the pun.
  9. I fish all kinds of stuff, like I am sure many others do, I am not stuck on brand nor do I hate one over the other, but I will say this, it is very hard for me to buy $10+ lures. I find myself buying Berkley hard baits, they seem to work, and the cost is high enough, like you said in that $4-$7 range. You know they are making 4 times their money on those things.
  10. They are probably 9 to 12 dollars a pop too.
  11. wild plum and bradford pear, fish everyday, that's my goal !
  12. Do you have a Unimog or just like them? I dove one years ago and almost bought it. I wasn't the right time in my life for a toy like that but I still wish I had bought it. I have had 3 Scout II over the years, they are all gone now.

Yes, I fish Stockton mainly. I have to say this..after the first year fishing Stockton I was ready to sell the boat! I just could not make anything awesome happen. Then around mother's day my wife and I started catching crappie on crank baits, bass on magnum finesse worms, then all summer until the January flood we filled the freezer with walleye. It was a great year.

I took some of the walleye tactics that I learned on Stockton to Table Rock and was able to make it work there too. A friend and I caught more than 30 large blue gill in deep water along with I don't know how many spotted bass and a few eater walleye. I just have not explored Table Rock enough to be real confident there.

I am not very good at fishing this time of year. My goal was to catch a walleye from Stockton for each month, that is one per month. January got here and just like magic they were gone.

I will set this goal again for myself as soon as I get another walleye in the boat, and start my year from there....again.

Here is a hint I will have a kayak for shallow water fishing by January. I think I have learned a thing or three this winter I guess we will see.

This winter lake fishing thing has been very humbling.

If you need some help on Stockton, maybe we can trade info about lakes? Where do you fish?

    3. Unimog

      Unimog

I fish Stockton the most since I can be at the ramp in an hour and a half. I used to make a couple of trips to the rock a year but haven't gone in a couple of years.

I've only done a little bit of walleye fishing, bass is more my thing. My friend at Stockton typically trolls cranks and a bottom bouncer for walleye and I've caught a few going with him.. It's not an easy lake to fish. Typically this time of year I fish areas with the right chunk rock with some pea gravel and catch quite a few.  Then when summer sets in I usually focus on brush in 30' or so.

That sounds like, the same plan that I ended up with. I would like to fish the river inlets next Jan,Feb, 1st couple weeks of March next year focusing on walleye. I think that would fill in the gaps for me. I don't know.

I become very goal oriented, which can quickly take the fun out of fishing.

I am right in the middle of the 2 lakes. Big M, and Ruark Buff are almost the same for me. Add an other 10 minutes to the journey and I can be on upper Bull Shoals, Beaver creek Access.

When the summer gets going the walleye seem to be everywhere 18 to 24 meets the bottom. If you don't like the trolling thing snap jigging something flashy works pretty well. I have some small 1/2 spoons, shiver minnow, or jigging rap, just a night crawler on a jg works great too sometimes.

  13. I like the war pig and have caught walleye on it, also the cutter 90 and 110 jerk baits seem to work very well but I have not hooked any thing with them as of yet. Howdy RPS hope you did some winter fishing and had better luck than I did. I have been working my hinder parts off here lately. I and the wife still found time to do some small unprosperous fishing trips but it good to spend time together It's good to see a post from you.
  14. Man that sounds like last weekend for the wife and I. I caught a spotted bass right in front of the boat ramp at C.Mills, Then we headed to Stockton dam, and then to the Taylor Bridge area. Yes we too were looking for bigfoot or a big walleye, what ever came first. To who ever wanted to know, I would NOT put my boat in at the steel bridge boat ramp ( if you can call it that ). It was muddy and slick Saturday, it will be bad now. There was a bunch of people fishing on the Sac. Taylor Bridge looks interesting. I am wishing for a couple kayaks right now, I would be up in all those inlets/outlets right now for shore !
  15. Check this out..https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1908&dat=19751228&id=n14fAAAAIBAJ&s jid=etQEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2425,6770414&hl=en
  16. You guys should check out Stockton lake posts. Someone caught a 33" musky in this same spot. Crazyness!
  17. Holy cow ! That is awesome !
  18. I don't know a bunch about boat motors but I think that is the motor that shuts 2 cylinders off at lower rpm. I think they called it a 2+2. Maybe the problem is in the mechanism that does the shutting off of the cylinders. It sounds like the other two are never coming on. I hope this helps a little. I would like to fix it and put it on my boat.
  19. Went there today, thanks CrappieMaster24. There was a ton of people on the river. It might not be bad during the week. Interesting spot. If you need some good spots on the lake this summer let me know. We can do some trading.
  20. Wow awesome !
  21. Marty will say his suppler is Bud and Gloria's Bait shop Carthage Mo. 417 358 6119. They supply most shoppes with live bait and many other fishing supplies. They are super good people. There store is near Kellogg Lake in Carthage Mo.
  22. I just got lucky, but thanks. It sure is fun to try new things.
  23. I am thankful that info too, I will be trying this for sure. I think each walleye is a treasure large or small. I am still looking for the big fatty though. thanks MOpanfisher for the info and thanks Chris for the post.
  24. That is just about a wall hanger for around here, awesome !
