  1. In between this and the weird "eye-licking" video out there - kind of grossed me out for a minute or two. Then I played it again.
  2. I've fished for at least a few hours every day (except Monday) this week somewhere on the James. The water level is still up but dropping - if we don't get any more rain this weekend will be perfect floating. I was doing really good on a compact chartreuse/purple/brown spinnerbait and a small 1/8-ounce finesse jig in orange/brown with a green pumpkin Leech trailer. Drawing a blank on poppers and walk-the-dog topwaters and buzzbaits. Not much on crankbaits, and only a few on hard jerkbaits. Good fishing overall and good paddling.
  3. I have a 9-weight built on an All Star blank (when they made fly rods) that has Fuji alconite guides - it's a cannon but a two piece so it doesn't travel as well as a 4. I'd just let you borrow it so it doesn't feel so lonely.
  4. Keep reading the Table Rock forum and you'll be on information overload!
  5. Flooding Springfield - still normal here in Ozark but the Finley is rising...
  6. I was in Nixa around lunch time and they were getting hammered - look at the gauge.
  7. James at Galena would be a good spot - but I'm not sure about the access on Flat right now.
  8. Look for used chain link stuff on craigslist - shouldn't be too hard.
  9. Kind of a short float for an overnighter - but if you go slow you'll be fine. That gravel bar above Crane is pretty close to the take out - I put in at H.L Kerr and paddle up to where Crane pours in as a day trip - it's not that far up so maybe pick a spot pretty close after where the county road (AA - I forget ) allows access just downstream from McCall bridge.
  10. There's a couple of XRap Shads stuck above the old dam from Walleye fishing this Winter/Spring - I think they might still be there.
  11. I try to hit it at least once a year to just to check it out, but I never catch any big Bass - don't know why.
  12. Those Crappie are in the James and Finley, too. The ones I catch at the park in Ozark all have that stripe, as do the ones in Linden.
  13. That's a long float through the least productive stretch. I don't know why but I've never consistently caught decent Bass up there.
  14. Yeah, I think shuttling would be the big problem on the less-traveled streams. I would love to show off some spots on the James if you wind up there. No matter where you go - if you break camp at dawn and get moving downstream you'll miss most people who don't get on the river until the crack of noon.
  15. No surprise here that I agree with Al - standing in a solo craft sounds good (and on a quiet lake would be good) but on our streams isn't necessary or even efficient. I love being able to skip lures under trees where someone in a boat would have a hell of time trying to do it. Second - getting up and down constantly through the riffles on some our streams would be silly. Lastly - most people are barely able to keep a regular, pretty stable tandem canoe upright on our streams, so standing up - yeah, you just go ahead and have your fun with that.
  16. You should see all of the old "Grip and Grin" pictures me and my brothers have of stringers of fish. We evolved, too.
  17. There are some cows on the banks along the drainage - but I think it may be something else - these are all accesses that people splash around in so they're checked often by the health departments. Other streams may also have pretty high levels, too - it's just not reported in the paper as often. I do know I'm not filling my water bottle directly from the Finley - but I'm not doing that from the North Fork of the White, either.
  18. I buy a few here and there but mostly use my own - hard to find a good 1/8-ounce finesse jig with the hook and weedguard I wanted so I started making them. For store bought I like the 5/16 Booyah Baby Boo - but I'll start making that size, too.
  19. Really anything you would use for Smallmouths, but usually closer to the bottom. I do really good on small plastics and tiny cranks, but the biggest ones I catch are on finesse jigs meant for Smallies.
  20. Yeah - a little high for wading. Next time look at the Riverdale gauge - it's pretty far downstream but will give you an idea how the river is.
  21. I've caught plenty of 3-pound and bigger Spots from Beaver. The big limiting factor on Black Bass size in Beaver is the Stripers, not other Black Bass. But who listens to me.
  22. Yeah - that's just sad. You have to be careful but sometimes there's something out there you don't see.
  23. I don't remember when I first cast one of my brothers fly rods but I do know that flyfishing played a large part in my decision to move to the Ozarks - just so much good fishing - of every kind. I have a sweet little 7' 4-weight that my son is trying to learn to cast this year. He's struggling and usually goes back to the spin-cast rig but he'll get it.
  24. I never use them. Just buy more stick baits - or buy the ZMan ones that last a long time.
  25. Yep, just above the highway M bridge would be fun to jump - in someone elses boat. AND - just upstream of Shelvin is that solid rock stair-step ledge at the big round pool heading towards Delaware Town access.
