  1. Bass fishing tackle kit from Walmart - actually has a few things that should be useful. Yum ball cap and long sleeved fishing shirt rated for spf 30 or something. I'm spoiled.
  2. Good report. We all gotta get our fishing fix every now and then
  3. Thanks you guys for all the input. I cast right handed so I think I'll go with a left handed reel. Probably a medium heavy 6' 6" or 7'. Then I'll just have to practice casting it and using it. Picking out a rod and will be the easier of the two.😀
  4. Considering getting a baitcasting rod and reel. Right now I have a spinning med power 6' and a spinning med light power moderate fast action 6' 6". Should I get a med heavy power baitcasting setup or something else? Mainly using this for kayak fishing and a little bit of bank fishing. Targeting largemouth and smallmouth bass. I've never used a baitcaster before so any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. What body of water did you fish?
  6. Anybody know what the recent water temperature is on the James upstream from Springfield Lake or at Springfield Lake? My thermometer done broke and I need to break down and get me another one I reckon.
  7. I may not be the best fisherman but I can tell people that I'm good at reading about fishing on here when it's slow at work. PM already sent Phil.
  8. Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy it!
  9. Nice pictures and good report. Thanks!
  10. First of all thank you for your service and sacrifice and Welcome Back! I was out Friday morning on the James not too far away from Springfield Lake and caught 3 bass on a topwater lure. If you look at the James River forum there is that and other reports. Water still seemed to be plenty warm. The cooler temps could definitely change things though. Good luck and Happy belated Birthday!
  11. I think that's about right. You hit the nail on the head right there. You're right that when it gets colder it is harder to catch fish and also gets more dangerous in a yak if you were to flip over. When the water temps get below 60 you will see me fishing from the bank.
  12. Great pics (as usual) and thanks for the report!
  13. Sounds like a good time on the water except for all the exercise. Nice report and pictures!
  14. I believe that word or phrase you are looking for is Louisiana Sleigh Ride or Cajun Sleigh Ride.
  15. My friend had talked me into trying Table Rock but after checking TRL forum and online calendar decided not to go because of two tournaments this weekend. Too many boats out there pre-fishing. So I ended up going on the James. Put in before sunrise and slowly worked upstream. Pretty calm on the water and it was the normal 1 foot of clarity. Also cloudy skies. Saw 2 other boats and 1 yak the whole time. Worked past a bridge using the ned and topwater and then I got a hit on my heddon baby torpedo, remembered to wait just a moment set the hook and reeled in a little largemouth bass. I was pretty excited and dunked my reel in the river while I was trying to get the bass unhooked. Kept fishing and moved on to a different spot upstream and caught 2 more small bass in about 2 feet of water. One came off the hook right as I got it next to the yak. The other I managed to get a pic of. All fish were released to fight another day. Now I didn't catch a really big one or 50 in one day but I just started getting into fishing not that long ago and I'm still pretty new to this kayaking thing too. So don't be too hard on me. So anyways I had a great birthday and a nice day on the water.
  16. Is there a scholarship program for the admission fee? If not there should be.
  17. Love the analogy. Must be a LOUD bait! I need to get/make some of them
  18. Holy Cow those are some big ones! Were you fishing at Fellows? Didn't know there was such big bass in there.
  19. Thank goodness the people in the pontoon boat were wearing their life jackets!
  20. Wow! Awesome fish. Good job!
  21. Great fishing and writing! Sounds like an awesome trip!
