This should get MoCarp all fired up ...
tjm replied to fishinwrench's topic in General Angling Discussion
Never heard of lakefork tx It ain't a trophy til it's mounted. Ain't just euroanglers I don't appreciate, it's any euro- nothing much good ever came to this continent from Germany. -
When was the very first time you heard of low DO in a lake? I have only been aware of it for a couple years, so, I'm curios how fish lived before they got DO.

This should get MoCarp all fired up ...

That 20 is total of all rough fish together, not just carp and by bow? Yet if I use lines I can take 50? possess a 100? I watched a carp man haul in doubles and triples of common carp on a throw line with about twenty droppers. More than once. Should worry about the bait fishers taking 50 commons a day and canning them they make pretty good fish patties. Two daily limits could feed you for a year. And we could run completely out of carp. -
9 ways to combat BowFishing at your favorite swim (legally)

I like biscuits and gravy, let me know when you're gonna do this thing. I''ll bring my own bow. -
No limit on otters now, for trappers. Still can't hunt them. NTA convention being brought to Mo. in 2019 by MTA; Springfield July 11th to 13th, you can all join in and get new T-shirts maybe see an otter skint. I may even go to town for this one.

What's considered a big smallmouth vs. a trophy in Missouri?
tjm replied to Smallmouthmama's topic in Smallmouth Talk
Couple guys like that fish the local creek here at night and have dozens of pictures of fish in 4# neighborhood, other guys fish days and cover the same water with 15" being the prize. -
That one is actually moving. most just lay there looking like stick is why you seldom see them. Ambush hunters that don't waste energy unless ready to eat or scared. When you have seen a couple after you stood within inches of them, your eyes get better.

Any non native specie that becomes naturalized is invasive Executive orders are just random thoughts put on paper and subject to revision when the executive sobers up or gets replaced.

Some online stores that I have not used yet but that were recommended on other forums and book marked, good to read and compare: https://www.jsflyfishing.com/fly-tying-supplies https://www.bearsden.com/ http://www.flytyersdungeon.com/ https://www.allenflyfishing.com/fly-hooks/ https://catalog.theflyshop.com/fly-tying-1/ http://riplipsfishing.com/products/tungstenfly.php http://hookhack.com/ https://www.tcoflyfishing.com/pages/shop-fly-tying https://www.caddisflyshop.com/fly-tying.html http://flyfisharkansas.com/flyshop/?p=439 http://www.feather-craft.com/fly_tying This article talks about alternative sources of flytying materials- craft, party, wig stores etc. https://globalflyfisher.com/tie-better/inexpensive-materials

Fly tying is such a small community of customers that any shop still in business is likely to be alright. Less than reputable places don't exist long. Numerous places on line, but, you will learn more about the materials and how to select them for the kind of flies you tie from a proprietor run shop, I take it Plateau is such and right in your town, ask them all the "stupid" questions you can think of, because there aren't really any "stupid" questions and you won't learn if you don't ask. If you get down to RRSP/Cassville- Tim's Fly Shop is tops, imo, and just outside the park. The other thing you get in small shops is local knowledge of both the flies that work today and the particular water that you can use them on. All that being said, big stores like BP and their subsidiary Cabela's do carry top quality materials as far as I can tell. I would buy from either in a pinch. The first thing though is stop at Wallie world and buy two medium large storage tubs to keep your feathers, furs, and plastics in, it won't take long til you have a lifetime supply and still want to buy more. One online place that has a some what poor reputation for service, but has great pictures and descriptions of feathers you might not see locally ( i like to browse there) is http://featheremporium.com/

Boat Trailer Tire Pressure
tjm replied to MickinMO's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Try a couple different tire gauges, some of them tell lies. Did you scale that trailer loaded? Can you upsize the tire/wheel? Whatever is causing that wear (I'm thinking over load or under inflated-but you need to decide which) won't just go away when you replace the tires unless new tires & rims increase your load range. -
Always wear a hat. Be sure that when you ask help with a fly stuck through your ear that when you say "cut it off" they know you mean the fly hook and not the ear.

My Homemade Fiberglass Diddy Poles
tjm replied to captain belly's topic in General Angling Discussion
Do you have to mark these with your ID ? Interesting tutorial. Not rocket fuel mathematics, but this is a fishing forum and if I wanted to discuss (or even cuss) rockets, I would be on a space forum. Thanks -
I used to grow my own tobacco, if you want horn worms; burley is the way to go. A lot more food leaf than tomato has so the worms get big fast, two crops of worms per summer. Probably not related but the years I had tobacco we didn't get worms on the tomatoes. (75-100 yard separation)

Searched the net for that expression, yep, I'll just walk on.

Exactly. Tells nothing really except how much light is available at that time. Today's reading is not even relatable to yesterday's reading, never mind last year's reading. It may raise peoples awareness. It may get people involved but so could a community fish fry and hootenanny. I once lived where acid rain fell from the sky on a regular basis, and having seen a lake with vinegar levels of acidity, clarity is not a good thing. Clearest lake I have ever seen because nothing lived in it. Not much grew 5' back from the water, but by golly that water was clear.

40 years ago the reservoir that Providence got it's drinking water from was restricted from boats and fishing and all other access, not only that but the entire watershed feeding it was City owned and likewise restricted. was said to be the best municipal water in the country at the time. I worked a couple sewer plant jobs and the out flow was tested to be as pure as city water. The biggest pollutants I know of are golf courses and big green lawns. Oils from your motors and oils from pavement float on water and end up in the ocean for the most part, not a good thing but as long as we want to live away from the work or work away from home it's going to happen. Do they give the same results on a sunny day and a cloudy day? What about at night?

Them lift kits are "performance enhancers" - when you got performance problems, you do a lift kit and add on really big tires.

That 100 yards is surprising. The last four that I have seen were on timbered ridge tops with no nearby ledges or rocks that I associate with dens. I remember as a teenager in Idaho being shown a den that looked as though it had thousands of snakes in it, no way that the surrounding desert could support three in a hundred yard circle, maybe western snakes travel farther.
-
As an accomplished herp, can you tell me how far from dens they range? The half dozen or so I've seen appeared to be loners far from any others, and I wonder that they ever breed.
-
Hold on! You fry it with the shell on?
-
What is the science? It just sounds like a goofy feel good thing. Visibility has as much to do with the sky cover as it has to do with water quality.
-
What can be done? We could drain the lakes?
