Where did the earlier report of fog come from? I read a few of the news reports and none of them mentioned fog.

Something that I'd never heard of. I used to use paint marks on my fly rod for fish measuring.

I don't. I've gone there only when it was "on the way to somewhere else" and that's less than ten times in my entire life. I'm glad that others love it, that keeps them off the good places. I do recommend it to most people that ask. Nope. Fall is already too full of things to do and places to go, but hope y'all have a good meet.

I'll probably not make the next one if it's in Sept.

Do you think those bridges can be replaced for $247,219.50? Most states have some standards or guidelines on when bridges are required to be cleaned in order to prolong their use. Clogged deck drains or other such situations might trigger a wash in between required maintenance too. MODOT says Federal standards and guides on bridge preservation links are here if you want to read up. https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/preservation/

How many of those grassy fish are posted by guides? That's why I stopped going to RRSP during the C&R season. But that just stopped me from seeing them, the C&R season is still popular.

The fly tyers from Kansas that I talked to all said they fly fish for multiple species of warm water fish. Catfish, carp, suckers among others. I'm about equally divided between warm and cold. When I was back East the chain pickerel and LMB took up more of my time than the trout did, and there were hundreds of miles of trout waters within driving distance of my home. A fly is an artificial lure, probably the oldest of all artificial lures, and any fish that can be caught on any artificial lure can be caught just as easily (and more cheaply) on a fly. I noticed at both the Sowbug Roundups that we attended there were more warm water flies on display than there were trout flies. I had never seen a Walleye or Muskie fly before and there were lots of them there. So while I'll agree that most people do think of trout/salmon first when fly fishing is mentioned, trout are of least concern to many flyfishers. On other forums I've interacted with fly fishers that only fly fished for carp, and many that only fly fished for "panfish".

It was a good show, better than others I've been to there in the past. New vendors, more tyers, more warm water flies than trout flies, I think. In addition to the @BilletHeads, I accidentally met two fellows from the fiberglass fly fishing forum, one I had met previously and one I hadn't. I didn't come home with anything new but I was tempted by some vintage rods and my son did acquire a number of the silent auction things including a new fly rod. We came back home by way of Bennett Springs and got skunked there. And we didn't see any one else catch a trout either. That together with the Sowbug makes twice I've been outside my five county zone in less than a month. I'm sure I saw those other OAF members that Marty mentioned, but I had no idea who they were. I guess none of us was wearing OAF hats or patches?

Regular earthworms like it cooler and often go really (10'+) deep when the soil is warm or dry. Put your tubs good top soil in a cellar or basement at about 55-60F and feed/cover them damp shredded newspaper/cellulose/peat moss/commercial "worm bedding" on top. I've kept "wild worms" year round when I lived in the north east. It's tricky keeping the bedding "wet" enough without being too wet. And you have to watch for mold. All the times that I tried keeping them outside they died as soon as we had a few hot days and tub soil got above "cool". I'd guess that a bin several yards wide and a couple yards deep might work, but at that size it's just as easy to dig up the garden.

It was a pretty big deal at the time and if you look back in the forum you can find the discussions we had back then, as well as some talk about the murdered snake breeder that wrench mentioned.

I talked to a guy a few years ago on Capp's Creek who claimed he couldn't tell a RBT from a BT, also saw a group of three on another stream all excited about the "trout" one had caught, that looked like a sucker from where I was standing. Let the enforcement folks worry about the enforcement problems.

I did find it remarkable that the sheriff's people had been all over that place finding the cage and bones and meat package etc. and never saw or set off the trip wires with the incendiary devices. That kinda suggests that the bombs and trip wires were added later, the lack of crime scene marking was strange too. One could wonder how much involvement leos had?

I didn't see that in any of the reports at the time, did this come out later at trial or is it a local knowledge thing?

I thought the easy key to identifying spotted vs largemouth was in the dorsal fin?

Does IRS still have enough people to carry out an audit?

I wouldn't fish RR at 1590CFS. It depends on when the picture was made, I guess at 8Am this morning it had dropped to 375, then went back up.

I think that we are being set up for the Postal Service to go away. The head donkey at USPS throughout the past few years has been cutting back on sorting equipment and man hours since his first week and was hired on DT's first watch, recently announced that he's leaving, When DT took over this time the VA Rx shipments moved from USPS to FedEx, which means instead of using the mail box, where I can collect it at my pleasure, the huge truck turns around in my yard and I have to be available to sign for it. Cut lots of the VA staff too and tells us that it is to improve the service at already understaffed facilities. The guy said he'd tear down the government and he is. We the people may get what we asked for.

That's added onto already flood conditions. And the karst is pumping out all that has fallen over the past week. L Sugar was at ~70CFS prior to the rain hit ~3200CFS Fri afternoon to Sat noon and dropped to ~2100CFS before this rain runs into it. Given that it has been over 20,000, it's not too bad yet. I am trapped at home by several dry ditches that are carrying a couple hundred CFS each. and that will be the case until a day after the rain stops, so I'm willing to call it off at any time. Elk went from about 225CFS to about 14,200 over the past couple days too

They kinda loose the Dick Tracy/Indiana Jones cockiness over the years, they keep the rain off my hearing aids and glasses. I have few.

How about the old brown fedora, and I'll find a pheasant rump feather or two for the band. Flood made me reschedule the surgery, so it's looking up for this trip, if the water runs down by then.

Not sure that I've ever caught a "big" smallmouth, having read about SMB from 6#-12#, and with the reclassification of the Neosho into a species of it's own, it may well be that I have never ever caught any smallmouth at all. I do recall one non-largemouth, because it was always there when I made the attempt, time after time under the same rock, apparently the same markings, same time of day for several years, the fish grew from ~17"+ to >20", per my quick and crude measuring. (measured marks on the fly rod butt) many times each year, probably caught what I believe was the same bass over a hundred times, and I was there the day another angler put it on a stringer. Typically I don't count the fish beyond "a few" or "several" and may go months without measuring a fish, but it was fun watching that fish grow.

All that was before the last election, two weeks ago Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said during a Cabinet meeting that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be eliminated. Given that the agency is set for elimination, or at least some serious cuts in funding and function, it's not surprising that they aren't making grants.

I thought FEMA was gone? defunded and dismantled by the African doge, no?

Gosh, I thought all those old hippies had become CEOs and reached retirement age by now. The draft ended in '73 and the Vietnam war in '75 and as best I recall the movement lost it's targets. One dodger even became POTUS. But, I have admit I never kept track of them. Once I was out of uniform they stopped harassing me.
