My fly rod is social distance long so masks ain't really needed I reckon, but if it feels good do it.
  2. But it's legal for me to use the Hawken during 30-30 season and it's not legal for me to use the 30-30 during Hawken season and that makes no sense. Like I said run one season from Sept thru Jan. and use all tools. The limiting factor for management is inevitably the number of permits allowed, and the total number can remain the same.
  3. Inlines kill deer and technically they are muzzle loaders, but to me they have nothing to do with black the powder experience. It may be a thing like fishing flies with a fly line or fishing flies with casting gear, crossbow versus long bow kind of perspective. And like designating water to be fly fishing only and then allowing casting gear, it seems stupid to me to designate the deer seasons into sub-categories and then fudge the definitions to allow other sub-categories. I'd be happy just let all the segments of deer season run together and pick what ever means you want to use. One drawback to the inlines for me is getting that primer down in that little hole with my large stiff fingers.
  4. I always associate black powder with side locks and underhammers, percussion caps and flint, muzzle loader has lately come to be associated with modern inline, shotgun primer and pellet loads. I have zero knowledge of inlines, except they are legal and you can buy them and the substitute powder at Bass Pro. And that there are many sales people that don't know the difference between black powder and a substitute. Black powder, Goex is my powder of choice, (hard to find locally and not sold at any big stores- they only sell substitutes) Mexico, Mo. https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/category/categoryId/3501 Clarksville, Ar. https://powderinc.com/black-powder/ Davide Pedersoli, Lyman, Aldo Uberti all make quality replica black powder guns (probably any of the Italian makers do, but some I haven't seen) Thompson Center used to make good percussion rifles but they don't list them on their site at present, my rifles are T/C Hawken a .50 and a .54- the .50 is easier to carry, easier to shoot and uses less powder and less lead than the .54, but I still like the .54 better. I have owned CVA and Traditions units that were more cheaply made but functioned fine. Mechanically there's probably not a great difference from brand to brand, price is based on grade of wood and finish, my Traditions revolver was made by Pedersoli. https://www.dixiegunworks.com/ https://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Category.aspx/485 http://www.longrifles-pr.com/index.shtml https://taylorsfirearms.com/long-guns/blackpowder-rifles.html
  5. Do you just want to extend the deer season or do you want the black powder experience?
  6. I think I had a Belgian ancestor. Ovals and open loops suit me. With level line you never have to worry about overhang cause it will never exist. If you can carry 70' you can probably cast the whole line.
  7. I think any line is a Spey taper, in the old days Spey casting used a DT. Shooting heads of the Scandi andSkagit types are also used as Spey lines.
  8. Just schedule a fishing trip to the destination. What is an Euro-style Spey rod? Model number I can look up?
  9. I wouldn't drive I40 if there was any other route available, wrecks my nerves, dodging the million trucks at breakneck speeds. In the dozen or twenty round trips to Memphis for wife's eye surgery, I tried all routes from here to there that seemed reasonable; so if I were doing it, starting in Memphis- I40 west to I55 north to US63/I555 north to US412 west to US65 north. There are a few small towns to get through that slow things down a bit, but altogether only added to a couple hours over I49 to I40 and has many many more places to take a break for coffee, gas or restroom. I guess about five hours M. to B. but of course we always continued on 412 to US62 to Avoca, so the 65 turn to Branson is kinda an estimate.
  10. That just leaves 30 minutes to fish, if I'm not already exhausted by wrestling the boat around.
  11. One of these days I will make one just because I've thought for years about keeping the line off the rocks and out from under my feet, any sort of plastic pan, a tube of liquid nails and a handful of wire nuts and about five minutes could save a $100 line from damage, but so far I only think of it when I'm not in the shop... I think it would be wonderful if using a full sinker while wading too. Shoot a whole line? I can usually cast 30-40' no problem. My long ago mentor though could roll cast all of a 30 yard DT all day long, and catch trout too.

have to see when our company leaves, might make it, might not.

    29th?
  15. But is consuming O2.
  16. If any decay of that stuff occurs it does use O2 and gives off CO2, whether it is enough to harm a fishery would depend on the rate of decay and how large the reservoir is. Trees don't decay very rapidly and the deeper they are the slower they decay, in ocean depths wood does not decay at all due to lack of O2.
  17. Still have a few here, but they have been in decline for 20-30 years across their range, I believe. Maybe some of the same reasons that hurt quail, whippoorwills nest on almost bare ground and hatch very early spring.
  18. Sorry I didn't look at the category. where it says "Table Rock Lake". I know not much about lakes, but the fish will still want temperatures in the 60s, maybe that helps.
  19. Never fished the James, but I would fish fast water over clean gravel, chunk rocks or logs. They like lots of oxygen and cool temperatures, 60-70F, Pretend you are looking for trout.
  20. True golden trout with dark green backs down to the lateral line wouldn't be at any more risk from predators than any other trout. These hybrid mutts aren't goldens. More like bastid rainbows.
  21. The palomino trout are a further hybrid, a cross of the WV golden rainbow back with regular rainbow resulting in a paler overall color. At least according to what I read here (scroll down) https://anchorfly.com/trout-species/ The Ava hatchery produces golden rainbow of their own development. (I got kinda interested after seeing yellow trout in the bass Pro aquarium at the Rogers store) http://crystallakefisheries.com/all-about-trout/

    Summer Coat?

were those dumped by the highway cleanup crew?
  23. Yeah, @Devan S. I posted before I saw your last reply, I'd guess they are the golden rainbow variation and if obtained outside MDC may have come from Crystal Lake Fisheries of Ava, I read where AGFC had bought some trout there that included some golden rainbows to be stocked in the White.
  24. Are these Golden Trout or Golden Rainbow trout? Or Palomino trout?

    Summer Coat?

Check them in about four weeks, it's still early. I've seen blue 'coons after Thanksgiving. Deer haven't made any scrapes yet on my piece of the world.
