  1. Yeah, at the first lake, there were a number of other anglers. Only one guy was catching any trout. He was catching one about every hour. At the 2nd lake, two guys caught at least 3 while I was there. Not sure what they were using, but they appeared to be bottom fishing, which wouldn't be legal, but at least they were releasing their fish according to the rules. It was a long time between their bites too. I had another nice fish on all the way almost to shore, but I never got a look at it before it shook free.
  2. Hit a new-to-me lake Saturday (12/19/20). Got skunked. Then I went to a lake that skunked me the last time I visited it. Caught 2 trout and 4 crappies.
  3. In Iowa, there’s an overlap... I think your previous year’s fishing license was valid until Jan 15th. But I think you could also buy the next year’s license starting in December. I checked the MDC website yesterday, but didnt see 2021 licenses available yet. What’s the typical timeline for MO Fishing License purchases?
  4. 82...83.... amazing! I really enjoy following what @Ham and @Johnsfolly are catching. I even learned about a few species I hadn’t heard of before, like Northern Studfish, which I then actually caught! I just had my best year for species ever...and even got generous with separating Common and Mirror Carp, and Goldfish and Comet Goldfish...I caught 33 species this year. I had my owns self-imposed limitations... flies only, no bait or scent, smallest hook size of #12 or #10, no saltwater, the only micros were incidental. I was amazed to catch 18 species out of one very unlikely creek. @Ham, good luck on your next two trips this year. I hope you and @Johnsfolly each exceed 100 species in 2021... that is a heckuva goal! I’ll help if I can.
  5. When you get there, make sure you say "Hi" to me. 😎
  6. It would be hard to leave those Hybrid Striped Bass! But when you are done, you're done. One time I shad-imitation baitfish streamer from shore at a local reservoir with an 11' Switch rod. I quickly caught 3 channel catfish from 4.5-6.5 lbs (23"-26"). They were so strong! I was worn out, so I just quit and went home. Maybe I need to spend time at the gym... 😬 I've left after catching a big one a few times...you just know, it isn't gonna get any better than that.
  7. I just have one 20" smallie. And no picture of it. 😔 100 fish days are pretty rare, but I've done it on crappies and trout. Maybe on bluegills...but I think I'd get too bored before reaching the finish line.
  8. Nicely done. I visited it this summer for the first time as well. I've heard the best way to fish it is to stay out of the stream to avoid spooking the fish. But....its irresistable...you GOTTA wade in it! 😁
  9. I've been wondering... I see a lot of bass reports saying they caught x-number of "keepers". What size is that? Is it whatever the legal size limit for the lake is?
  10. @Gavin@Al Agnew @Mitch f and others.... Are you guys still members of MSA?
  11. They SAVED you money! Elk were much cheaper to bring back than those extinct CAMELS! 😜
  12. Nice ones! I hope you got most of your thumb back? 😁
  13. After getting skunked fishing for stocker trout the previous weekend, I tried a new-to-me urban lake...hoping some fish would be willing to play this late in the year. Back in central Iowa, you see, the lakes would often be freezing over about now...as they currently are. Anyway...I was pleased to catch some fish. Nothing very big, but they were still very fun on the fly rod. 7 Largemouth Bass and 3 Bluegills. I then headed to a local creek to see if there was anything going on there. Well, Friday evening and overnight into the early hours of Saturday, we got some pretty good rain in the St. Louis area. The creek was high, fast, muddy, and cold. I didn't get skunked, which was a surprise. I caught 2 creek chubs...biggest measured 11".

  17. My sister and her husband both had it. Their only symptoms were a day or so of feeling lethargic, and losing their senses of taste & smell for a day or so. She said people with Type O- blood don't seem to be bothered as much by the virus. I'm not O-...
  18. They probably taste better than sowbugs. 😜
  19. Hey, the days will start getting longer in 15 days! In Iowa, at least, February always seemed like the worst/coldest month of the year. Will be interested to see what its like here in MO.
  20. No, its (supposed to be) C&R until January 31. Anglers aren't supposed to use bait or scented plastics until then, but I did see some bait anglers on Saturday.
  21. Flyfished for stocker trout again on Saturday. And it finally happened! So excited (not)! I got skunked! 😜
  22. My wife talked to a friend of ours in mid-November. He mentioned he’d had Covid but had recovered. He either wasn’t over it or caught another strain... We found out today he died of Covid 4 days ago. He’d just turned 62.
  23. @JestersHK Good luck! Catch some biggies! Eat healthy and make good choices! 😁
  24. This thing eats the perch's big brother...walleyes.
