  1. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/an-angler-earned-over-100-000-catching-an-unwanted-species-of-fish-this-summer/ar-AA1iiItO?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=cbaeaf86bf0441c5bb5f5ef6148a2d7a&ei=32 Why is the Northern Pikeminnow, a native species, "undesirable"? They eat baby salmon? They've coexisted with the salmon in this system for thousands of years. Salmon numbers may be decreasing, but the cause is likely something not called "Northern Pikeminnow". Since natural systems balance out, if there's fewer salmon, there's gonna be fewer pikeminnows.
  2. Has anyone caught Cutbows in Taney?
  3. Got out for nearly 3 hours Sunday afternoon. Caught 20 Goldfish and 15 Koi.
  4. Saturday I'd hoped to connect with @Johnsfolly to try for Grass Carp and gar. He had a small window of opportunity before catching a flight home. Weather wasn't conducive...drizzle, wind, cold....so we scrapped the idea. I made a last-of-the-year Bowfin outing. Caught 10! Plus one of the biggest Warmouth I've so far caught from this spot...and a bluegill, a couple bass, a shortnose gar, and a few green sunfish.
  5. Friday evening: One gar had an Argulus fish parasite on it....a type of crustacean:
  6. Such beautiful fish! I'm sorry you had to endure that experience all by yourself! 😁

  8. I searched to see what that pattern looks like. The first pic to pop up was this: That's a very realistic-looking fly!
  9. This one might be available to help you out.
  10. Or the one that says, "$200 Reward if Found"? 😜
  11. My understanding was this system of communicating emergencies was created some years ago, and a bill was passed at that time they incorporated it that said the govt has to "test it"...send out a test message, at least once every 2-3 years (I forget which). So they did. Just like the monthly emergency test sirens that go off in the town nearest you. Just like changing oil on machines and periodically working valves and pumps that may not get used much. Maintenance items, plus it reminds people how to use it for when it becomes important. They don't need to know YOU got the message...they need to send the message and know it was sent out. A small number of people across the US can provide the answer. It's a good system...most people have a cell phone these days. The ones that don't probably aren't listening to the radio or watching TV much either, so how do you get a message to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible? If satellites get knocked out, we lose the electrical grid, and other forms of communication are lost...we won't know what's going on. We'll have to get our information of what's happening in the rest of the world from the Pony Express riders and traveling minstrels.
  12. Seriously though... I'm rather impressed you found a spot that sounds to be considerably more miserable than our "Beatdown Creek". I didn't think it was possible!
  13. Misery loves company. But don't call me for that spot. 😬
  14. Is it the one that says, "Scratch Here" on the belly?
  15. Wanted to catch a bigger Longnose Gar. My previous largest was 37"... not particularly big as far as they go. Missouri Master Angler size is 42". I tied up a special fly for it (with a pair of articulated single hooks, no trebles, no rope fly... nothing against any of that, just describing it). It worked! Caught a new Personal Best... 47.5", 10+lbs (based on an online calculator for Longnose Gar)!! Only its head fit in the net...it was longer than my "mid-length" net...including the handle. Also caught a bluegill, 2 freshwater drum, black crappies, and white crappies (biggest was this 13-incher):
  16. I heard a rumor (that I just made up now), that gender fluidity is very common in that area. Any truth to that? 😬
