  1. Nice, Thanks for the report.
  2. I really wanted to stop there but had to get home. It is on my list. Back in the late 90s the Mrs. and I did the DNR State Park Passport program. Did all the parks across the state, all the covered bridges, all the major civil war battlefields. It was one of the most enjoyable thinks we ever did. Learned a lot of history.
  3. There is a lunker photo album in the lobby that is interesting. Gigantic Rainbows, even saw some people I knew in those pics. Many of them holding two fish well over 5 pounds. The catch and release is fairly pricey so I have not done that yet.
  4. That rod is awesome.
  5. Treated myself, or should I say cheated myself to Rockbridge Wed. Nice day, only six people fishing the entire time. Winter rate on the motel room, so that was nice. This fish was 3.5 pounds, other fish were 2 and 3 pounds. They put up a good fight, using 5 wt 1980s vintage L L Bean flyrod outfit. Stream looked good but saw a few pieces of trash. Saw no trash last time I went. I am a litter fanatic, so maybe I notice it more. They did not have a basic room cleaned so they gave me the upgraded room for the same rate. LOTS of big fish below dam. They are stocking it well even for a Wednesday off season. If you drive through Ava MO near RT. 5 check out Archie's restaurant for breakfast: 605 No. Jefferson. Nice Folks, good breakfast, discount always offered for first responders and military. Total cost for 3 fished cleaned/fillets, fishing fees and room, total= $171.97

    What's Cooking?

When I used to drink had fond memories of many Commanders Palace 25 cent martini lunches.
  7. This was the talk of my area as well. Scary, we must know some of the same folks.
  8. Lie others have said try some jigs. Trim a tad bit of the feathers off the back. Try late in the day just before the ending whistle.
  9. Two birds; one with the .410, one with the .28 gauge (pic below). Had to let a lot of birds pass using the .410 during opening minutes. It worked out fine, the Mrs. does not eat them. Enjoyed the short time out there, tomorrow is another day.
  10. I fished it last week for 2 hours. It seemed there were some larger stockers than normal. Only caught two, one was a nice 1 pound on a San Juan. Since the schools are opening the crowds may not be as bad. Good luck.
  11. The Lake area can be really depressing. Just look at all the crazy boating accidents alone. I feel sorry for the good folks that just want to take it easy at the Lake. I would take a beating before going to some of the bars up there. Bentleys for dinner is my speed. The last boat wreck with 8 people injured was a classic. Even a professional multi-state offshore power racer let a drunk dude pilot the boat at night. You cannot get any stupider than that. But hey, we all know the possible new casino will do a great deal to make the Lake area nicer.
  12. Handful of cherry ones, but the mild banana peppers went crazy!!
  13. Welcome! Thanks for your service....especially doing a full retirement enlistment. Congrats on that.
  14. Nice!! AAs are the best hull to reload if you ever go that route. A good sign
  15. We had two old tractor tires laying around with no use. I saw on YouTube they can make good drag harrows. With rain finally in the forecast, decided to put in a little Dove plot. Better late than never; could be a bust, time will tell. Started with a bare spot in a field. Added gypsum to soften up the clay. Dumped a truck bed full of high-quality garden mix soil. Tilled it with my late father in laws 1990 Troy Built tiller. He was WW2 Vet, so the tiller has great sentimental value to me. Broadcasted a mix recommended by MFA for Dove, includes sunflower, sorghum, other things. Finally used the Hillbilly Drag on it. Hope the deer do not get it all. Fingers crossed. Only out the minimal cost of the seed.
  16. Been using this on our place for 5 years with great success. Had a HUGE Tick problem. 1 oz per gallon of water. Deadly on Ticks. No problem for our Dogs after it dries. Talstar P Talstar P (Pro) Insecticide | Fast, Free Shipping - DoMyOwn.com
  17. Wow, just wow. 42-year-old fish and able to release it unharmed after documentation!
  18. Not yet, my calendar from last year is marked. We saw them the first time on 4/13. This year we are going to try one of those solar powered, floating hummingbirds misting fountains for the bird bath. Had tons of them last year, was a slave to them with 6 feeders, had to cut it down to 5. Only saw 2 Orioles, hope to get that feeder out earlier this time.
  19. So what did you guys actually suggest? I said if they wanted a catch and release area, it should be a stretch in zone 3 or downstream from the CCC bridge. Those are more classic flyfishing waters and those areas would not hamper handicap access. They could open up some other water for bait maybe downstream from the outlet or the spring area. I used the free text paragraphs to focus on Barclay Wildlife. Don't know if they care what I think, but they stock that part of the river.
  20. Maverick, That is really nice! The wood gate is the icing on the cake.
  21. Here is the link to a detailed survey that came out of the meeting: Angler Public Survey for Bennett Spring | Missouri Department of Conservation (mo.gov) There are several sections for free text comments. Sadly, something came up and I could not attend. Survey is open till May 15th.
  22. I lived over 20 years on the wrong side of the tracks in St. Louis. (It's a long story) Just my 2 cents, bring your full-size Glock with the extended magazine if you decide to Trout fish.
  23. Bennett is hosting a public meeting on the future hatchery remodeling, and future trout management. MARCH 25 th, 6PM AT THE "BENNETT ROOM", 11798 MO Rt 64. Just fyi, think I will go just for the heck of it. I know they will be still stocking Bennett from other hatcheries during construction, I worry about the Niangua stockings dropping off.
  24. Pardon the phrase, if you can get it up, these are not bad. TriStar 20 ga, gas auto, 6.7 pounds, shorter length of pull, very light recoil, good reviews. Raptor Field Compact - TriStar Arms
  25. Welcome. Do not give up on the Bass. Lots of fun with a 7wt fly outfit. Also, Bluegill fishing with a tiny top water popper, dusk to dark, fun, fun, fun.
