  1. Absolutely. Still frustrating, though. I don’t care at all about trophies or limits & not much about species. I just wanna have some fun & catch supper every once in a while. I’d love to try Stockton, but it’s rep for being spooky when it’s windy makes me think a little 15’ mod-v doesn’t belong on the northern end of the lake & Mutton Creek or Aldrich are a lot further away than Truman or Pomme. I’ve only been going up to Fairfield because my uncle’s got a place up that way & as a complete boat newb, it’s nice to have both an experienced boater along, as well as a dock while I learn how to drive a boat. Same with most of my time on Pomme. Once I figure out/get the nerve to launch with no dock, I’ll likely spend most of my time between Talley Bend and the Sac access on 82. I’m learning to fish from basically scratch, along with figuring out this boating thing and learning the waters, so I’ve got my hands full. Lol!
  2. That guy's unhinged. Keep your head on a swivel around that dude.
  3. We fished the Fairfield area Wednesday afternoon & both morning & evening on Thursday. We fished off bluffs, points & the 83 bridge. We fished deep, we fished shallow, even threaded the timber up to MM P-16 & threw everything in the tackle box at 'em & caught exactly 5 fish. I got a 12" drum Wed evening & a similar sized channel cat Thur morning. Uncle caught a similar sized drum & channel cat & a 10" crappie Thur afternoon/evening. Stopped by Cody's & his wife said he told her nobody was catching & the crappie were between patterns. We didn't see or hear of anyone doing well & hardly anybody out. Been on Truman & Pomme several times this summer & have caught exactly 3 fish. Keep hoping to get out & at least catch enough for supper, but that hasn't happened yet. I keep hearing it's the weather & timing, but it's about enough to give a guy a complex.

    Fish roe

What I was thinking. If that stuff in any way, shape, or form resembles caviar, you can keep that mess. Blech!
  5. Problem solved. Figured I'd start with the simplest solution & wired the new switch exactly like the old. Turns out that blue/white & grey/blue used some kinda goofy female connector on the blue/white into the female connector on the grey/blue to connect them to the same spade. Replaced the switch & voila, nav lights are good to go. The switch still looks like it's wired "wrong" to me, in comparison with the online diagrams, but my lights are fixed & that's all that matters. Thanks, guys. I feel silly asking stupid questions, but electrical crap is my kryptonite & to me, jerry-rigged solutions on a boat are an even bigger no-go than on a motorcycle.
  6. Hmm. No master switch, just lights, bilge pump & livewell. No other lights anwhere. Default wiring harness & the blue wire's not used in my application? '98 Lowe, if that matters. Each fuse has the red/purple running to it, with the striped grey wires running from each fuse to the switch. Based on the diagram you'd posted earlier for non-illuminated switches, it almost looks like it's wired backwards to me. I've tried looking online for Lowe wiring diagrams, but no luck.
  7. Switch quandary- Nav light/anchor light switch as currently wired (Nav up, center off, anchor down). The middle left terminal is a double spade. Grey wires from middle terminals run to the fuse, but I have no idea whatsoever what function that blue wire serves. Currently I have forward nav lights only in the up position, nothing in the center & anchor light down. And the new switch. Carling DPDT switch. What am I missing? Is the old switch wired correctly? And if so, what do I do about that blue wire? Just run both the blue & the gray wire into a new female connector?
  8. Some chiropractors are MUCH better than others. My old one in NC was on the Elon University sports medicine team & absolutely knew his stuff. Never any discomfort with manipulation & would send me out the door 20 minutes later, feeling much better than when I'd walked in. I spent the last 10 years of my Army career on Airborne status & made 56 static line jumps in that time. With a 70 pound chute & reserve, occasionally another 40 to 70 pounds of gear & a chute designed to put boots on the ground quickly, you land with the impact of jumping off the roof of a single story home. My back & neck are wrecked from top to bottom, with bulging disks at C6/C7 & L4/L5/S1 & a very pinched nerve at C6/C7. Chiro can't do anything for that pinched nerve, but can mostly get my worn out old bones lined back up as correctly as they're ever gonna be. Same with the pain. It helps, but certainly doesn't fix the underlying issues. I'll take the 70% solution, all day long, over nothing. Overlooked bonus of chiropracty not being covered by most insurance- drastically lower prices. Typical visits run $35-$55, with x-rays as a new patient running the initial visit up around $80-$90. I've used a guy in Bolivar a couple times, but he doesn't quite have the touch like my old one & I'll be looking for someone else next time. Any leads on a good chiropractor between Harrisonville & Springfield?
  9. Was born & raised just across the state line to the west, but took off for the Army immediately after high school & never came back. Ended up living in NC for 26 years, 1/2 down at Ft Bragg & 1/2 a couple hours north. We liked it there a lot, but over time & with not having any family there, we started feeling kinda isolated & got to thinking about home. When we were able to retire in late '20, we pulled up stakes & landed up here in Osceola. We absolutely love it here. NC was nice, great seafood, great barbecue, very mild winters, blah blah blah, but MO is like the wild west compared to NC & I say that as a compliment. No BS permits for everything, no state run liquor stores, medical MJ, no one who gives a crap if you have a pistol on your hip or shoot on your land, or burn your trash, the list goes on & on. We pay less in property tax here for a huge 4br/4ba on 5.5 acres than we did there for a decent 3br/2ba on 3/4 acre. I don't do crowds well & the county we lived in in NC was considered rural & had a population density of just over 400 people/sq mi. St Clair county has 14 people/sq mi & not a single traffic light. When we're driving down some winding roller coaster back road, I'll comment to my wife how much I enjoy those roads vs. the super slab & she always says "there's nothing out here". Well yeah, that's the point. Anyway, I'm not great at stringing together coherent thoughts while writing, but there is nowhere else we'd rather be. Probably not surprising I'd forgotten my Midwestern upbringing, considering I joined the Army as much to escape as to see the world. It's been fun being back, rediscovering tenderloin sandwiches & fried mushrooms & people here are either much nicer than down south or we just have better manners. Little things like holding the door for you at Caseys, or saying excuse me if they bump into you, or waving you through the 4-way stop. Maybe it's just my deeply buried KS farm kid rediscovering the good things about growing up in the Midwest that I'd overlooked due to circumstances back then, but this is home now. We love it here more by the day & can't think of anywhere that would be a better fit for us. I might not be from here, but I got here as fast as I could.
  10. Here's a pic of the nav light switch. If I have this semi straight, it looks like the top right spade is jumpered to the lower left & the wire out of the lower left should power the bow light. With the switch in the up position marked "NAV", the bow light works, but not the stern/anchor light. I get how the up position powers the bow, but don't see how it would power the stern. Middle 2 spades run to the fuse & I get that. However, that middle left spade is a double (?) spade & I have no idea where the blue wire goes nor it's function. I'm guessing ground? With the switch in the lower position, marked "ANC", the anchor light illuminates, but don't understand how that position , as wired, is supposed to prevent the bow light from illuminating. Is it a left/right thing with the spades? From what I can find/see online, it looks like maybe I need to flip-flop the wires connected to the upper right spade to the lower left? Or do I have it all mixed up? Near as I can tell, it's the factory wiring, but from online pics it almost looks "upside down", which doesn't make sense either, with the up = bow only & down = stern only thing. Or am I an idiot, the switch is wired correctly & I just need a new switch? Don't know what to do about the blue wire & double spade, though. Haven't seen a DPDT switch like that in my online searches. Those switches are grody. New replacements are on the way. Side question- what is this jack? Looks kinda like a cigarette lighter or 12v outlet of some sort.
  11. Pretty, but the wife hates 'em. First time one buzzed her, she was over them.
  12. Had to look up crappie bombs. Might just hafta try one out. The couple times I've tried minnows this year, I used a #2 or #4 live bait hook on a drop shot rig. With no success, mind you. Lol! I really liked putting in at Nemo & would love to explore Lindley Creek in more detail. In fact, I'm going to focus my efforts there & Fairfield Landing on Truman for now until I feel confident enough to put in on the Sac off 82 & launch here in town & go play in Gallinipper Creek.
  13. If it's under slot, it's not by much.
  14. Those things are a TON of calories, so be aware if you care about those things. They're soldier fuel & their most redeeming virtue is that they'll jam you up solid for a week. Never much cared for pooping in the woods, so a plus for me. Lol! The old ones in the late '80's were horrible. Turkey fat diced with gravy, dehydrated pork patty... Blech. By '07 or '08, they were pretty decent, especially the vegetarian meals. I remember sittin' in the pine swamps of Richmond County, NC in the early '00's playin' at bein' a steely eyed killer, doin' Army training & such & was overjoyed to find a pack of M&Ms in my MRE. "M&M, Proud sponsor of the 1992 Olympics!"
  15. We love living in the sticks. Deer, turkey, you name it are regular visitors & we have a surprising number & variety of frogs & turtles, especially since the pond went in. Only 5 1/2 acres, but it's our happy place.
  16. I think I've just been a victim of weather & timing, honestly. Funniest part is that those LOZ crappie were caught while day drinking & flipping jigs off my aunt's dock. Lol! Just recently discovered those fish attractor maps. Wanted to use 'em on Pomme last week, but as my uncle's guest, followed his lead. No big. I need to upgrade my battery before I mount my Garmin Echomap UHD 73SV & start learning how to use it. It's all good, it's a learning curve & this year's weather seems to have made it steeper than expected. I am getting excited about fall. Easier to get the missus out when it cools off some & she'd eat fish every day, if we could catch enough of 'em.
  17. Very nice. I'd love to get into some whites or hybrids. Been on LoZ once this year, Truman a couple times & Pomme 7 or 8 times & have caught exactly 6 crappie, with 5 from LoZ. Doesn't necessarily make me feel any better that nobody I was with/around did any better. Frustrating. Hoping things improve when it cools down some.
  18. Okay, I'm assuming bad switch. Pulled the switch panel out & all 3 switches (lights, bilge, live well) were pretty nasty & the housings looked corroded & nasty. I'm gonna preemptively replace the switches & see what happens. There was apparently a mouse in there at some point, so if a fresh switch doesn't fix it, I'll start looking for chewed wires.
  19. Yeah, I'm not getting them both together. I'll take a look at the switch tomorrow.
  20. There an easy-ish way for an electrical nug like me to figure it out? Diagram online? I think, but can't be positive, they worked correctly when I bought the boat.
  21. Boat's got a 3-way switch, with "NAV" above & "ANC" below. Front nav lights illuminate in NAV position, but not the stern/360 white light. In the ANC position, however, the stern light works just fine. Nothing in the middle position. Any ideas what's going on & how to fix it? Much thanks in advance.
  22. Thanks, guys. Much appreciated. With our little boats, it'll be a bit of a run up to the dam & Martins flats area, but we'll definitely check it out. Any particular baits they're liking this time of year?
  23. Gonna be camping with my uncle & fishing out of Nemo Landing next week. Any pointers on where to get into some crappie or white bass this time of year/weather? Bluegill or walleye wouldn't hurt my feelings, either. Pointers on what they're biting? Not asking for honey holes or secrets, but I'd sure like to be able bring a small mess or two of filets home with me.
  24. Took the wife there tonight & heard the same. Bummer.
  25. Thanks guys. Sounds like that stretch has a good bit of timber, so I'll look for some crappie. Maybe try to find a bass or two & see how the missus likes that kinda fishing. I'll be sure to keep a "silver shad" rattle trap (only one/color I have currently) rigged up on my "big" rod & reel, just in case.
