  1. Capps creek got a nice stocking of browns 12-14 inches a few days ago, 500 total Go get em, there will be a stocking of rainbows in the next week or so.
  2. Lower Roaring River just got is annual brown stocking only 500 this year, they were stocked all the way down to the lake(Curry Bridge) rainbows were also stocked 500 of them, this will be the last stocking till spring, outside of the park. All were under the legal size limit, but they will grow( all under 15") Rainbows no size limit, only applies to the brown trout. Some real nice browns come out of the lower sections of Roaring River, but you have to be stealthy as they seem to spook real easy, I caught this one not to long ago down below the park.
  3. It starts the 8th this year
  4. I was told it was really helping, I hope it continues to work. They may never turn them loose, a few years ago several brook trout showed up at Roaring River, caused quite a fuss, everybody was really worried that they were carrying disease. I know the brookies are safe, but from what I've seen working around Roaring River, I doubt they will ever stock them, but I hope they do stock them someday.
  5. Straight from a hatchery employee Right now they plan on just growing them for the time being. Not sure what the end of the line will be for them, I am on the list to notify if they decide to release a few.
  6. No trout were washed out of the hatchery, water never got that high.
  7. The flood last week hit the river pretty hard, evacuating a large portion of the campgrounds, everything should be back up and running by Thursday. The river came up about 9' and is now back to about where it was before the flood. The river is actually in pretty good condtion, the water has that greenish look right now, and will have for a few weeks probabaly, so the dry fly fishing will slowly come back, but right now we are fishing dark woolybuggers, prince nymphs, copper johns, lightning bugs, small gold jigs, small thread jigs, brassies, large drys will take a few here and there, the fish are still reacting to a hopper or a beetle, in some areas, where there is a bit of slow water, Y2K bugs are working pretty good, as are the glo-balls and the san juan worms, in bright orange and red. I'm tying a lot of buggers right now with extra mylar in the tails so they are more noticeable in this murky water. 5X and 6X are good to use right now. The water is still up a bit and the use of power bait is recommended if you just want to catch a fast limit of trout, the orange, flo. yellow and the white are all good in the eggs, if you are using the worms, the orange peel, the orange, cheese yellow and the chartruse are all working. Small gold spoons are really good if you fish them deep and slow, small spinners still work fine, you may need to add a bit of lead to get them down deep enough. Jigs are catching fish, right now, 1/32 and larger are best, but a few people have been catching trout on the white and the olive micro jig, but larger jigs are working best, in the darker colors, olive, black, black/yellow and dk brown have all been working well. In this type of water the use of 4lb and 3lb line is recommended, and as the water clears, we will go back to the 2lb line. If you go into zone 3, night crawlers and minnows would be good choices, or any of the bright colored power baits should work, and of course the ole local favorite, whole kernel corn. 8. Bring lots of ants, beetles, hoppers, crackle backs & caddis
  9. They work well, I've been selling and using them since last year.
  10. Water is in great shape at Roaring River state park, the recent heavy rains missed the park area for the most part, the river came up a bit one day and it was back down in a few hrs, the river as of this morning is about normal and clear. Great dry fly fishing the past few weeks, blue wing olives, caddis, midges, hoppers, ants, and beetles have all been good. Nymphs are still effective, pheasant tails, burlaps, sow bugs, brassies, san juan worms, chamois worms, army worms, and zebra midges are all working great right now. With the clear water a 9' 7X leader is best, you can get by with a bit heaiver in the mornings, but when the sun is high, use the lightest leader you can stand to use. 2lb, or 3lb line is best on a spin or spincast reel right now, I like the maxima or the P-line, but there are a few others out there that work ok. Power eggs in white, fl. yellow, fl. orange and hatch brown have all been good. for best results use a very small hook, and a 3/0 or heaiver sinker. Worms are very good right now, the electric chicken, john deer, black/yellow, pink/yellow white, mint green and the orange/white have all been good colors. Black/yellow, olive, dk. brown, tan and the gray Roaring River specials and marabou jigs have all been working great, 1/32 and smaller seem to be best right now, micro jigs in olive, white, black/yellow, ginger, and the lt. blue have all been good. Black, blue, green, white, and dk. brown spinners have been working very well, the 1/16 or lighter are working very well right now, if you have them a small crankbait crawdad or a rapala minnow will work very well right now also. Glo-balls, thread jigs, small mini grubs or jigs will work very well fished under a small indicator in zone 2 with your spinning gear or fly rod. In zone 3, minnows, night crawlers, red wigglers, yellow powerbait paste, and the captian America powerbait paste is pretty good right now. Good luck on the river this week.

  12. Fishing is really good right now, zone 2 is almost back to normal, I caught 4 trout in about 30 minutes this morning, all on a woolybugger, two on black, and two on a dk brown. Nymph fishing is still the best, but dry fly fishing is getting back on track. Water is mostly clear, you can see a lot of fish in some of the holes, wear your polarized sun glasses and you'll be able to see more trout. Nymphs work great, a lot of the fisherman I'm talking to are using a san juan worm as their first fly and fishing a copper john, or a zebra midge about 15" under the san juan worm, and using the a indicator about 3' above the first fly. Pheasant tails, burlaps, sow bugs, brassies, copper johns and hares ears are all working well. Starting to see good hatches again, caddis, blue wing olives and tricos, and a few sulphers in the evenings. Flies like cracklebacks, and wooly worms are working well also, sometimes you'll need to add some weight to make your flies get down a bit, on all my nymph rigs, I'm running at least one #4 shot, and sometimes to get deeper and to slow the fly down, more weight might be needed. Beetles are starting to do well again, warm weather will only make the beetle bite better. 9' leaders are still the norm, and I'm using 6X on nymphs, 5X on buggers and other streamers and 7X on dry flies. Plastic worms and eggs are still # 1 in zone 1, the electric chicken, John deere, orange/white, and the pink and white have all been good colors for the past few weeks. Black spinners, and bright white, and pink spinners have all been good, lots of nice fish being caught on gold, copper, and silver spoons. Still some good fish being caught on small crank bait minnow patterns and a good ole rebel mini craw will catch fish on most days. If your fishing jigs, the 1/32nd and heavier have been good, black/yellow, white, dk. brown, dk olive and chartreuse/pink have all been good colors. Zone 3, night crawlers and power bait paste has been good. Good luck on the river this week
  13. Nice, spin rod or fly rod, bluegill like that are fun.
  14. Fished crane yesterday afternoon, a heavy power bait fly in black worked great(wooly bugger) Landed 6 nasty little trout in a little over an hour, water is in fine shape, good flow, didn't see any trout rising, but if they had been I would have thrown a parachute # 14 Adams first. Snakes are getting more active, saw a lot of them hanging in bushes, sunning.
  15. I've been catching em on #8 woolybuggers(black) #10 red San Juan worms, # 8 possum bugs, and a #10 hares ear, all with 1/8" tungsten beads, water is up a bit, the extra weight is needed right now.
  16. I fished that area a few times, saw some big trout, never caught anything bigger than 6 lbs there.
  17. Water is up, you'll need to add a bit more weight to your, power bait rigs. 4lb or smaller line
  18. Just talked to the hatchery, biggest they weighed in was about 6 pounds.
  19. You poor thing, take a few hrs off march 1st and watch the festivities. Work will wait, and it will always be there ? You can build rods when it is dark out.
  20. Nice rod, I have that one, and a 7 1/2' and a 8' they are all good rods
  21. Water is better, decent fishing.
  22. I hope it doesn't get to bad, but I have the generator, fuel, extra water, a .22 for shooting rabbits, a .45LC for shooting looters, big pot of chili and enough hooks, rabbit, helmets and minnow skulls to tie all day, if I have to, and hooks and leech dubbing, when I run out of sculpin helmets, if its not to bad I may go fish crane, I received two new rods today, and I need to try them out, good luck everybody.
  23. Yes, good info, thank you
  24. Anybody fished over there, just wondering what the lake is like.
