  1. The Whites will be well down stream from Cedar Camp. That area of the river fishes well for smallmouth and google eye. Things may still be slow with the cold rains. Best bet if the area around Cedar Camp is slow would be to drive downstream to the bridge at State Hwy J. The white bass should be thick around there right now.
  2. ^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^
  3. not over. not even close. May will be off the hook. Or on it . . .
  4. yaknar, what make/model kayak is that?
  5. niangua arm is very good
  6. which side jigfisher?
  7. Learn to love winter. Then there is nothing to complain about. I thought it wasn't possible. It is.
  8. My thought too, Jeb. The original post was an invite to argue.
  9. There is a big culture gap, not to say that some locals don't do the same thing. I've seen the same thing happen below Truman Dam. Some people think it's a free grocery store, not a fishery.
  10. thanks. One is bone with an orange belly. The other 3 are various shades of shad (silver, black back). I caught some big channel cats on one of them years ago at Terre Du Lac. They wiggle.
  11. Ok, so I have 4 wee warts circa 1986 bought at Della's Bait and Tackle in Lemay MO. They are not clear, but opaque. What do I have?
  12. I dont even have a sweet tooth and I cant stay away from the Lemonades. GS Cookie crack.
  13. Good story Laker. Did you use additional weight to get the light jig that deep?
  14. Jerry, that option is already available. They're called Asian Carp. Hell, they jump in the boat. Sentiment appriciated!
  15. Dennis, I agree with Oneshot. The last 3 years have been much more difficult than the 4 years before that. I've only been going to the Niangua consistently for that 7 year period. The difference in the last few years has been striking. I agree with you that the fishing experience on the Niangua is excellent, especially compared with the parks and Taney.
  16. same thoughts. same hope for this year.
  17. Awesome stuff. Change the thread title to "In Search of A Ride With The Devil"
  18. Pea gravel banks in coves and pockets - especially if there are docks. C-Rig will work well. So will slow rolling a spinnerbait. That is a great time as it is almost certain that lots of fish will be shallow. Wait for Fishinwrench to weigh in. He will be able to add lots of advice on LOZ
  19. I'm the same way wrench. I love to put my dad on fish. No better feeling. Especially as he gets older.
  20. Mitch, I started a thread about this topic a couple years back. I'd be very interested to hear the results of your rod blank experiments. I'm still looking . . .
  21. Bob, what are the recommended line weights on the flystart?
  22. Here's the walleye summary from the MDC fishing prospects 2013: "Walleye got another boost, as Smithville received 217,000 two-inch walleye fingerlings in 2012. The walleye stocking program started in 1998 has turned Smithville into a quality fishery with several fish approaching 10 lbs. There are two primary fishing seasons for walleye at the lake: the spawning run to the dam, and the hot summer months on the points and flats. The spawning run on the dam can be frustrating for many anglers, but the stockings have greatly increased the number of fish coming to the dam. Using shallow diving crank baits work best during this period. During the summer months walleye move deeper off main lake points and flats. The newly installed rock piles in the main lake area should produce good numbers of fish. Trolling deep diving cranks or crawler harnesses over these areas usually work best."
  23. There is a good run of walleyes at Smithville along the dam (it's a good mile long and walkable) between Mid Feb and March. I have a similar plan to go after them on purpose for the first time this year.
  24. It went up like it does in the springtime when the ground is saturated. Falling fast though. I think Windyville will be below 400 by saturday - which means the lower river should be ok with regard to clarity and ability to walk around. The river needed the flush.
  25. I was hoping so Wayne. Thanks for the info.
