  1. Efficient?? Maybe not as. Gratifying? Very!!! I went to Big Sugar today, strictly fly fishing, and had a blast. At least 40 fish caught in 5 1/2 hours. A mix of smallmouth, goggle eye, and a few perch. Oh yeah I almost forgot, 1 big chub. Mini Clousers, Helmet sculpins, and frog poppers kicked butt. In the end the poppers were the most fun and caught the most fish. It's really not that much different than trout fishing. These may not be the biggest in the creek, but they sure thought they were and I had a blast.
  2. That's a fish of a lifetime. Congrats!!!!
  3. Nice fish Blue79. There are a lot of cats in there, I just haven't fished for them. I've heard they really like Catalpa worms if you can get some. Don't forget about the Redears. They get pretty big too.
  4. Nice fish Chief. Sounds like a great day to be on the water.
  5. No Tommy they won't stock again until Fall. The last stocking was probably around the 4th of July. I missed that one for the first time in about 5 years. Not to be an a$$, but I doubt that fish will survive long enough to be caught again.
  6. If they can adopt a few ideas that have been tossed around on this forum I would gladly jump into that tourney.
  7. if you want to catch bass in a farm pond you should throw a buzz bait or a spinnerbait. If it hasn't been fished for years they will tear them up, if they are in there. Top water frogs will work in any farm pond. Anything you would throw on a lake will work on a pond, if the fish are there. Crappie? Not my thing, but if you want to toss a few chartreuse crappie jigs around you should find out pretty quick, but don't be surprised if you catch more bluegills and bass than crappie.
  8. Yep and they are still growing in the creek, I hope.
  9. It ought to be a good day for it. Thanks for the report.
  10. Krazo, Browns are stocked once per year. They stock in the park one year and down at the lower access the next. I'm not sure what the survival rate is, but I doubt it's better than 25%. Anyway there are a few really good fish that survive from the 8 to 10" stocked size to reach 20" +. I caught 2 a couple of years back in the park that would go about 5 lbs. each, both females. Since we've had some good rain this year I hope the browns do a run later this year. I will make a couple trips looking for them in November. I've only fished above the mill pond once years ago and didn't do any good, but that doesn't mean there aren't any in there. From the mill all the way down to Shoal Creek can have fish, depending on the stocking. From what I've seen, the worse the winter the better the fishing. The colder the better.
  11. Great photos BilletHead!!!
  12. I started off last Sunday fishing the ned rig and couldn't keep the fish off of it. I caught one of my better brownies on it. A little later I hung it up and broke it off. Wouldn't you know it, I left all of the components at home. It's a good setup for the creeks. I guess it didn't really matter, the fish hit everything we threw at them. The 17" largemouth and a majority of my fish were caught on a War Eagle spinnerbait. A lot of fun, for sure.
  13. The stocking schedule is not something that is set in stone. We really don't know unless we go, that's the bad part about it. Neosho is catch and release from Nov. thru the end of Feb. Capps is still put and take and they get taken pretty quick. I can't remember the last time I was even close to a stocking. Late October or early November will be the first, after that who knows except the locals. The Sunday after Thanksgiving is when we meet up for Olliefest. You and anyone else is welcome to join us. I think this will be the 6th year we've done it.

    Great photos Ronnie!!
  15. I personally won't do Capps from late March until at least October. There are some fish if you are willing to work for them.
  16. Cool video. Looks like a lot of fun.
  17. That sucks Chief. Where did they finally find your truck?? I'm glad you got it back in one piece, I assume it was still in one piece.
  18. There are some big fish in there. A few years ago someone caught a huge bass. I can't remember the exact weight, but I think it was about 11 lbs.
  19. Welcome to the forum BBT. Thanks for the report. I fish Hickory and Capps a lot during the winter months. Maybe I'll see you on the water.
  20. I fished it last Saturday from about 11:00AM to 3:00PM. It was a little tough. The rain stopped a little after I started, so it wasn't too uncomfortable. The thing about wind on Lamar Lake is that I do much better when it's blowing. I did manage 2 bass on a spinnerbait early. I did throw a rat-l-trap when there was a little wind and caught 2 and lost probably the biggest fish I've ever hooked from that lake. I never saw the fish and it pulled 3 really hard times just about breaking my Lightning Rod. My drag was too tight so I could only hold on until it dove into sunken tree limbs and got off. 2 more fish jumped off at the boat on the trap. Nothing on the jig. If the wind is blowing pretty good I like to throw the trap parallel to the north bank. Just outside of the moss line. When they are there it can be a lot of fun.
  21. It's on my list of creeks to fish. Give it a try and report back. I lived in Richland and Swedeburg when I was a child. One of these days I'll go back and do some fishing.
  22. Good to know Fishinwrench. Thanks
  23. Thanks for the info guys. I will be experimenting a little with a few ideas.
  24. Thanks Phil. J.D.? Brian B.? Do you two need a timeout?
