  1. It is attached to a one owner (me) 2004 extended cab Ford Ranger 4X4 that has a V6, a 5 spd manual, A/C, CD player, and a trailer hitch. Only 52,000 miles. Message me for details.
  2. I have both of the major brands currently, but if you are going to buy two new units, I suggest you stick with one brand and connect them to work together. What units to buy really depends on your budget. I would suggest very different units at the $1000, $2000, and $3000 totals and I assure you $3000 for two units does not come close to some setups I have seen. BTW, Raymarine's Dragonfly and the Garmin units are getting rave reviews because of their chirp capability. An inexpensive option would be to buy 1 Dragonfly 5 DVS for $300 and an additional transducer. You could mount one transducer on the troll motor and one on the stern. Then you could mount a ball mount like Ram makes at the location you did not mount the one that comes with the unit. That way you could move the unit front to back with only a simple disconnect and reconnect. Later, when you want, you could buy the second unit. Just a thought.
  3. Welcome! 27 years ago was 1988? That's long time. I hope you enjoy now as much as you did then!
  4. Does anyone bother to use braid and single hooks like shown here? http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XPS-Freestyle-Jig/product/90542/
  5. I know your pain. I am fed up with "entitled."

    What's Cooking?

Ness: Really well done! Between you and me, we have given the world alternatives on navy beans. What I must ask is this: Why do most people not bother to pick one or the other? Neither is really difficult and both are vastly superior to any fast food. Sometimes I feel sad.
  7. Come to Holiday Island. Let's make up an incredible dish to use them?

    What's Cooking?

The recipe I worked from acknowledged that the addition of carrot and celery might be viewed as just "wrong." However, the idea that completing the classic mirepoix late in the cooking would add a taste and texture was irresistible to me. What surprised me, as it always does, is how much salt I needed to add on top of the smoked ham. Beans and potatoes, and eggs, eat salt.

    What's Cooking?

Obviously, I am enjoying my bean soup again tonight. The beautiful wife is off at teacher school so I must slog on alone. However, today I was cleaning out the refrigerator some more and found a large amount of broccoli I need to use before it turns yellow or develops dark spots. I blanched it and made a rue as the base for a four cheese and spinach sauce. That casserole should last as long as the bean pot and balance my diet. In a moment the casserole goes in the oven.
  10. As I have written many times, TR is a great fishing lake but very temperamental and difficult to learn. In August on the lower end, the best and smartest thing you can do will be to hire a good guide for the first day.
  11. "Mary looked and they are going for $27 a pound. We just ate about $125 worth of them in the last three days!" Bravo!

    What's Cooking?

I have not eaten at the French Laundry. I don't think I could afford it even if someone paid for me to go to California. But Keller does phenomenal things. I own two of his books and refer to them often. The Tulsa place is obviously into the many small courses concept. My wife, Nancy, and I have been lucky enough to eat at two world class places that did tasting menus. One was in Adelaide, the other was in London. In both cases I wondered where I would put the dessert. As for the Senate bean soup - this time was a follow the recipe event. Next time I may change things. If I do paprika or smoked paprika are great suggestions.

    White River 7/6/15

Rim and the hole above, Redbud?, are two of my favorite memory locations. Years and years ago, long before the catch and release was established, a group of us stayed at the"resort" there. Dreadful. Non working toilets, moldy carpets, awful. From what I understand the present owners have repaired and have a wonderful location. But we caught many fish there. I later took my father for a trip and we stayed up river, but fished there. Many many fish of decent size. The last time my father fished was a guide trip with Elvin, the Gassville lawman and brown trout specialist (is he still guiding? alive?) and we fished those two shoals/holes most of the day.
  14. From the description, I think he was in one of my classes a few years ago.

  16. Way upper end, at Holiday Island Marina, there is a fishing pier made from an abandoned bridge. From time to time people catch ice fish from it and off the point next to it. Both are public.
  17. I like Ham's idea. The bass and walleye love silver side rainbows.

    What's Cooking?

A poor, tired nudie ham bone just went in the garbage. I just added these: The final dish is an hour away.

    What's Cooking?

Just a little teaser for now: I have a ham bone and I'm not afraid to use it.
  21. After more than a week of 4 gates, we were down to 918.5. It has already started to climb and right now it's raining hard here. The last two flood years the lake peaked at 930 and 934. I don't think the corps ever wants to see 934 again. The real key in all of this is down stream - how much more can Bull Shoals hold and what are the farm conditions in the delta. If the corps can open BS without flooding farmers there is a much greater leeway. If they need to protect the corporate farmers, they will hold BS water and we have a limit on what can be filled. Edit: I just checked BS levels. The flood pool top is listed as 695 and the current lake level is 686, so some room exists. I will note the site says normal for July at BS is 661 feet.
  22. What they do is take on thousands of pounds of water as ballast to make the boat ride lower and be incapable of going on plane without throwing a huge wake. Then they crank up the loudest music possible - two varieties allowed, country songs about getting drunk and cheating or rap about popping caps and sexing. Once the music is cranked, you put the boat in gear and someone uses a rope to pull themselves and a board into the wake. Most of them hold onto the rope and "surf" in the wake - similar to riding a bike with training wheels. The more talented let go of the rope and "surf" without it. Of course, many can't manage to do this even with a rope and fall down, requiring the boat to turn suddenly and take the rope back to the victim. Meanwhile everyone in the boat screams obscenities at the chap who fell for being so uncool. After the bloke manages to get back in the wake the boat driver turns to look forward for the first time. His job at that point is to identify and follow the course most likely to swamp other boats or cause damage to boats in slips. You need to remember that consuming mass quantities of beverages designed to make you stupid enough to enjoy the above is mandatory. Hey guys, did I leave anything out?

Dry aging the beef is the bomb! Pan sear with an oven finish is the restaurant method of choice.
