  1. If you can walk it, it will catch fish. Whether it will out fish a spook, a sammie, or any of the other WTD lures is a matter for the fish to decide. Remember, my "go to" top water is a $5 Bill Norman lure, slightly modified because I wanted to make it special.
  2. Do you need an amen from the choir? Because of what you describe I have: 1. Had waves come over the side and the bow of my two different early boats (nowdays my big water small boat merely rocks violently) 2. Been spooled of more than two hundred yards of braid (I like to imagine the engine repair bill someone paid for that) 3. Done an emergency stop from on plane to zero 4. Had a skier throw their spray from the slalom ski into my boat 5. Had to tow a boat to the marina because the area between me and the bank was stump infested. (Pontoon boat, wrecked lower unit, people on front deck completely knocked down and rolled to the front fence of the deck. Luckily no one badly injured) Naturally, I have become quicker to call it a day than I once was.
  3. to go out on TR in July on a Sunday. I qualify so I went out this morning (20 July). I landed one nice walleye of 24 inches and lost another keeper when it came unbuttoned during the traditional lunge at the boat. The one I landed was on an inside bend flat edge. The escapee was on the outside bend bank. Both were 28 to 30 feet deep. A tip for walleye learners: The two fish today and all the fish Friday did not strike. They came up on the worm harness and mouthed the bait for quite a while. You must be patient and let this happen. Eventually, the walleye will load your rod and that is when you sweep set the hook.
  4. Tots are impossible to replicate at home. I sneak in and buy bags from time to time.
  5. Fennel, patty pan squash, oriental eggplant.

  7. I quit the Curados after the E series. Until then, they were my keystone. I am sure they eventually fixed the problems that plagued the E series.
  8. Catfish from a clear water lake or river is incredible good eating. I won't say it is better than walleye, but I will admit it is just as good.
  9. TR grows very large fish. I am sure catfish of immense proportions reside here. I simply do not know where. When you find them, I bet many would appreciate posts.
  10. If they follow your advice we will see a repeat of the Big O phenomenon from the 70's. People will pay wildly inflated amounts to the retailers and re-sellers (none of which Berkley will get) and a veritable hellstorm of accusations will emerge as to market distribution. On second thought, that could be fun. Listen to him Berkley....
  11. If you put in at Eagle Rock, the channel break straight out from the launch toward the two rock face bluffs has been giving up spots in the keeper range right on the break from 26 to 50+
  12. I saw a 14.5 that Chuck caught out of Holiday Island. I have seen a wall mount of a "17" that looks more like a 16. I have been told of several other 17's but have not seen pictures or mounts.
  13. What an excellent evening.
  14. That was the year of the flood 2010. Things were weird because of the high muddy water. That 13.75# fish came out of 10 feet of water in July on a worm harness. A week later I caught a 10# on a trolled crank bait in 16 feet of water.
  15. I took the night crawler harnesses I posted the other day out for a test drive today. I fished from 9:00 until 12:30. Water temp was 81 to 82 and I had on a sweat shirt when I started. Early no wind but by 10:30 it picked up. I fished an outside channel bend which had a 60 degree bank with rock and some flooded timber. I found the fish between 28 and 31. They hit the baits when I pulled the bouncer up over brush and let it fall back to the bottom. Two 18's, a 21.5, and a 23.
  16. Youngsters. I applied for Medicare last week. I am old enough that I saw, in concert, each of the big dead three: Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin. By 1978 I had been married six years and was practicing law.
  17. Global warming/climate change (irrespective of POTUS) has and will confuse all of us who remember the 50's and 60's. In the mean time I am finding it difficult to apply what I have learned.
  18. Encourage him to come. From now I would expect the trolled crank bait and jigged spoon to begin to surpass the night crawler harness, but we have potential rewards.
  19. Your post described so many things so well. Thank you.

    Walley Bite

I do not know how well my findings on TR translate to Stockton, but in the last two weeks I found them at 26 to 30 feet on channel roll offs with debris - timber, rocks, whatever.
  21. I fished in Canada with my father from 9 to 19. Lake of the Woods, Rainy Lake, Winnipeg River. Never fished in Wisconsin or Minnesota. We caught many walleye but most were in the size class that they call "eater." 13 to 16 inches. Here those are not legal to keep. We must catch fish 18" and longer and we are limited to 4. On the plus side, the fish live longer and grow larger here. I have two over 10 pounds out of Table Rock. On the negative side, you must target them and work at it. Four main techniques work for us, depending on time of year. Jigs with trailers, trolled crank baits, night crawlers with harnesses, and jigged spoons. I became serious about the walleye about 6 years ago and feel I am just beginning to know a few things. Your friend and his knowledge would do well at certain times of the year, but would need 2 or 3 years to adjust.
  22. If I remember correctly, Nelson slow trolled a Bomber minnow type bait to catch the state record. I may very well need to try this soon.
  23. Found them in the Cabelas Bargin Cave. Don't know why. In the Size 1 and 1/0 they work perfectly for this application. Besides, I could be using Trokars.
  24. Berkley Gulp trout worms
