  1. They started hitting "spooks" this week. They won't stop until the late July doldrums. Bone, clear, silver blue, silver black. Heddon, Xcalibur, Spro, or Lucky Craft versions. For the last five years, most of my five pounds plus fish have come on a walk the dog bait. Yes, the largest every year seems to be a jig fish or a deep fish, but the numbers over five game belongs to my "spooks". Have faith, get up early, and walk the dog.
  2. Already have mine. If I had a motor, I would put them on. Estimated arrival time for new rig is May 15. I feel like Calvin waiting on his new beanie.
  3. impressive!
  4. I'll check them out. Thanks.
  5. Pardon my shameless self interest, but why not buy my 18 foot center console 2006 xpress with 90HP yamaha for $8900? Comes with 24v digital minnkota 80lb trolling motor, two humminbird 525 sonars, trailer, rod holders. Less money, wider, more stable boat, larger motor, better troll motor and electronics. Sorry for intruding on the thread, but I thought I'd take a chance. PM me if you are interested and I can send photos.
  6. Has anyone used an online maker/seller of boat decals? Any suggestions on who to use or who to avoid would be appreciated. If a local merchant (Fayetteville to Branson) does these I could also contact them. What do you suggest?
  7. Bill: We all feel the pain, but I think this year is only a staging year for next when the large flood year spawn hits keeper size. Techo: So I'm a nice guy once or twice and now you'll rub my nose in it for years? Sam: You did the right thing. The secret feel good was just a bonus.
  8. It may be farther than you want to go, but Holiday Island rents large pontoons and Eureka is always entertaining.
  9. Start planning the retirement over here now.
  10. I also vote for the Alberto. Look it up, practice it, and you will be very happy with the results.
  11. Bill Vance in Cassville. Old school Mercury mechanic. He will find a way to make it run. It may not be book, but it will run.
  12. Had I fished in competition today, I would have weighted nothing. My partner had a very nice walleye, but they don't count. I am not worthy.
  13. Took a friend out 4/11 morning. First time out since the New Year. Fished Holiday Island to Stubblefield. I had two dinks and a hammer handle walleye. Fished twitch baits, warts, and a blade. Also scrubbed a grub. My buddy wasn't impressed, until he caught a 26.5 inch walleye the Boga said weighed a touch over 6 pounds. Found Bill's post about fish doctors when I logged on and promptly hit myself in the forehead. Yes there were boats on the lake, but it really wasn't so crowded up at our end.
  14. Where you are going has only a few brown trout and mostly rainbows. None the less, there are some very big fish between where the Norfolk flows in and Calico Rock. The water has more color and is deeper than farther upstream. Were I to fish artificial baits there, in addition to the jigs, I would pack #5 and 7 shad raps and 3 and 4" suspending jerk baits. Post pictures! All of us enjoy fish porn.
  15. I cut a Clorox bottle diagonally and use it as a scoop to bail when I forget to put the plug in. I carry the bail in the bait well I never use and it serves very well for waste discharge. Plus it doesn't rust.
  16. Thank you Al Agnew. Thank you Phil.
  17. gorgeous
  18. Drove through the park on the way to Cassville this afternoon. Water looked in great shape there and at the bridge where 86 crosses it. Flow but no evidence of mud.
  19. I just ordered an Alumacraft. The only boat that tempted me other than it was a Lund.
  20. thanks
  21. In late April the wife, old dog, and I will be traveling to the Mountain Home/Norfolk Lake area to pick up my new boat. It has been 10 plus years since I stayed over night in that area. Any advice on a place to stay and a place to eat? The wife said I should ask about caviar blinis and champagne, but I told her pet friendly and a good breakfast were the things to look for. Any suggestions?
  22. A get together? OK I'm in. Once real summer is here - i.e. no school - I volunteer to cook. Pulled pork, yellow bbq sauce, and horseradish coleslaw, yellow potato salad and grilled marinated chicken. You all fish, I cook. I learn. We will all enjoy.
  23. Semi-related thought and question for Phil: Do you have the Ozark Anglers fish on a stringer logo in jpeg format? Would you be willing to share it? If so, I would pay to have it turned into a boat decal and would put it on my boat. Once I do, I'm sure the repeat cost for others would be relatively low. BTW, who does anyone recommend for boat decals?
