  1. If I promise to bring only warts, rock crawlers, neds, and keitechs, (three rods and one bag) does anyone have room for me? I do not want to drag my boat from Oklahoma, but I would like to fish a bit before the potluck. BTW any big fish I might catch I will swear is yours. rps
  2. Throw in a boat and these guys will be all over it.

    Eagle Claw Rod

I throw light Neds on a slowish 7'6" rod with a casting reel. I have found I must erase any snap to the cast. Leave about 18 inches of line between the tip and jig. Slow and easy back, slight pause, then like a good golf swing, slow and easy forward, accelerating, and release a bit higher than other methods. Golly gee, that is hard to describe using words only. I suggest 4# Maxima line. Fewer line management problems. (Do you like my Phil edited exclamation?)

    What's Cooking?

We are doing a classic All American cheeseburger on thin buns tonight. In the middle of winter. Thin buns do not absorb juices well and are not as good at controlling unruly condiments. Also, winter tomatoes suck. Start by seeding and dicing a Roma tomato. Thin shred some Romaine. Add salt, pepper, mustard, and dill relish to the lettuce and mix well. I put the top bun on the block and layered the tomatoes and then the lettuce mix. When the burger with cheese was done, it went on the bottom bun and I flipped it onto the top and then turned everything over. I then enjoyed my OCD burger.
  5. Mike Worley on this forum retired as a guide on that lake a couple of years ago. I do not know if he is still aroud, but a pm to him might get you some information.

    What's Cooking?

Roasted miso wings, stir fried snow peas and carrots, rice pilaf.
  7. Sauger and walleye do not jump or make long runs. However, a six pound fish on light line argues with authority, especially near the end where it makes power dives at the end. We once had a member called powerdive. BTW, why are you denigrating walleye? Go after crappie first.

    What's Cooking?

Today I gave a cooking demonstration for a socially spaced and masked group. My demo was the cheesy corn chowder I have posted here before. Tonight we will have that for our dinner. The great news? The dinner rolls are rising as I type.

Thank you, sir. Braise covers a huge amount of ground. Coq au vin, chicken provencal, and pot roast are all braises. The rules are there are no rules. Cook what suits you, other than fish, with whatever you like, and keep the feet wet.

Had another thought. Some recipes call for very thin sliced beef. Beef stroganoff and fajitas are examples. Make your slices across the grain. That approach will reduce the chew.

    What's Cooking?

Tough challenge. Pun intended. You face the classic trail boss/farm wife problem. Braise/stew, ground beef, sausage, smoked/dried beef, corned beef, jerky, and quick sears are your friends. Want to roast?, then wrap in bacon.

  20. I have a Rebel XS 1650 Lund. Great boat. I had an Alumacraft Navigator 1650 tiller steer. Great boat. After my shoulder surgery, my wife was determined to get me out of a tiller steer. I now wish I had bought an Impact instead of the Rebel, but that is spilt milk. Do not discount the Alumacraft or Crestliner boats. Walleye Central has extensive listings.
  21. Thanks! TY
  22. Apple changed its IOS. It now saves pictures taken on an Iphone in a ".heic" format. The format takes up less space. Your site sometimes does not want to accept .heic files. If possible, a modification of what files are acceptable would solve the problem. Thanks in advance. rps
