The Rock has her own personality. She can treat you kind and others cruelly in the same day. She can push us all away. Then, with no notice and little reason she opens her arms for everyone. Bless her heart, sometimes she knows no restraint. People, like me, move here from out of state to live on her banks. Then she humbles them for two years. Can I get an amen for that?
  2. What part of the lake? Makes a difference for the answers. Blue Eye semi divides down lake and up lake. I fish upper end, and by then the spawn is mostly done.
  3. Phil, can I suggest someone? Tims Fly Shop. Think he would help?
  4. Cannot find a "Hidden Lake" listed, although that could be a name for several on this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lakes_in_Carroll_County,_Arkansas
  5. Carroll County is the home to Eureka Springs and Berryville. I know Black Bass Lake, Lake Lucerne, and Lake Leatherwood, but not Hidden Lake.
  6. I put the Ned on a braid 10# with a 6 # leader. I throw my cranks on 8. I use 10 for pratically all else. Did I need much else?
  7. I too have fished a biffle head, but now days I find a jikka rig hangs less but still allows the hook to free swing like the biffle. Plus, if you use a coast lock instead of a split ring, changing the weight size is easier. Guess I need to swim it sometimes. This makes the best jikka rig weight for a coastlock system: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Northland-reg-Roach-Rig-reg-Walker-Sinkers/1208846.uts?productVariantId=2805378&WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03088462&rid=40&channel=GoogleBaseUSA&mr:trackingCode=28E43CE2-B076-E011-B343-001B21631C34&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adType=pla_with_promotion&mr:ad=30640523471&mr:keyword&mr:match&mr:filter=57965685671&gclid=CM7S15D1zr0CFRQV7AodYW8Avw&gclsrc=aw.ds
  8. I caught five today on the wart and the Ned rig. All together the five might have weighed 4 pounds. Mike wishes I will stay away from him tomorrow. I still thought it was a great day.
  9. Tim, Thank you for starting this post. The people who posted made the threaad a feel good thing. .
  10. So he catches an 8 plus and draws Elias. I hope he buys a lottery ticket soon.
  11. Beautiful fish BH.
  12. Up here, I map fish suspended almost every trip. The general pattern I am working on mastering is why they suspend where they do - and they are particular about that. There is one spot on the Stubblefield flat bend and another on the Eagle Rock flat bend where they can be found (but not always caught) on many different days in different seasons. I am beginning to think it must be some bottom feature on the flat channel bend that attracts bait fish and makes it a good spot for the predators to hang out a short distance away and then graze at will. WHen I figure this out I will share the facts but not the GPS.
  13. This time of year the walleye are nearly all done with spawning, and in transition to the lake. Every once in a while someone will find them, but I generally fish the wart bite until they begin to settle in early May.

I am glad you had a better day. Sunday was tough for me.
  15. I fished 11:00 to 4:00 today out of HI. I had four spots between 12 and 14 inches. Two on a wart and two on a Ned rig. I think the whole day went South when I caught a fish on the Ned rig on my first cast of the morning. It was a beautiful day and more than one boat was cleaning crappie when I came in (although they were not giants and there were not many per basket).
  16. yes. I love wart fishing.
  17. water temp almost 50 to 50 and a little: 1. wart, slow and barely hitting bottom 2. grub/tube/ned rig/jig and pig - dragging bottom or barely swimming 3. jerk bait with loooong pauses Good Luck!
  18. Al Some years ago I asked you to think about coming to my class and teaching a day or two about writing. You write as well as you paint. Thank you.
  19. You have found a great place. Many here share your interests.
  20. Small asterisk to the above comment ^. You can get extra depth if you are willing to put 200 to 250 feet of 10/2 braid out. I don't like to do it, but 2 to 3 extra feet can make a difference.

    Wart Rod

Give me a price range and a throwing/bait preference and I will answer.

    Wart Rod

Champ. it is. When the people like Duckett begin to spiral wrap, the need for wrapping pros like Hoglaw will go away.

I have a 7 foot St. Croix medium power MF flex blank set up with spiral wrapped micro guides. Hoglaw put it together for me. It is a perfect small crank rod.
  24. GM, I hear you and most other countries in the world hear you. However, as long as we are here in the US, where every child is supposed to be career or college ready by the time they finish high school, do this. Teach math in the early years with an abacus. It teaches math facts and number sense and prepares the kids for set theory. Teach literacy with the the constant "why?" Why did he think that. Why did she do that?
