I am sorry. Read this without the context of this thread.

I was fishing near Owl Creek in the oughts when a boat with skier went between my boat and the shore. In the process, the boat snagged my line and went on to spool me. Fortunately the line did not slice the skier and the line broke before the rod was yanked from my hands. I always wondered how far the boat got before it had problems. I also wondered about the repair bill.

Just for information, Holiday Island is good, even at 935. Big parking lot too. Also, at 925 to 935, that end of the lake is worth fishing.

Intrigued by the BFS thing, is it another gimmick?
rps replied to dan hufferd's topic in General Angling Discussion
That depends on what kind of fishing for which you use it. If you fish flat banks with a Ned or finesse jig, the spinning reel is great. If accuracy is important, the right rod with a bfs reel can place your finesse bait more accurately. If you are like me, and you dislike spinning reels, a casting rod with a bfs reel will let you fish Neds among the dock wires. I am selling an equivalent of a Bfs reel, and I am keeping one for the rod I built to throw 1/16 Neds. -

If you enjoy the flat 19, try 11, and 15.

1 Haddock Creek: North Bank cranks and jigs; trees at the crappie; south side, near the front top waters and plastic; spawning cove 2 Across from Haddock Creek: small island with brush and grass; sits on the channel – swimbaits on that side; between the island and shore fish the brush and laydowns with top water; fish the clear part with swimbaits; look for bass chopping shad 3 Down lake on the left, boat docks sit at the front of a little pocket cove. Jig spoons (before the docks went in, I caught walleye here) The little pocket cove holds Ned fish 4 Farther down the lake on the same side, when the shade covers the water, try a walking bait 5 Fletchers 6. From the bend opposite Fletchers, troll hard baits near the bottom for walleye. There are submerged trees and you will hang up, but it is a productive stretch for about 150 yards 7 Trees show above water. Ned for both bass and walleye 8 Wart bank, plus swimbait the docks, Ned in between docks 9 Power Line crosses lake. Good walleye area, but trees scare some people off. 10 Channel side; trees at the front of the pocket cove vertical spoon or trolled hard bait across the front (more trees under water) the pocket cove is a spawning area and a good early summer Ned location 11 Flat at front of Stubblefield Branch; walleye and bass are always somewhere on this flat! Usually, the bass relate to the brush and trees. Prime top water location early May thru early July; fish doctor on the flat itself, swimbaits, and c rig crawler, worm harness on the edges. Bluegills all over the place. Multiple bass 5+ here. 12 Ned between the boat docks and warts on the other side 13 Spawning location. 14 Cliff dive location, if they knew about the submerged pole timber they would not jump: From this point down river troll the edge of the timber for walleye. Go all the way to the channel swing. Just before you reach that swing is a prime area to vertical jig down the sides of the trees in late summer. 15 There are always bass and walleye on this flat! The flat is slightly bowl shaped. The rim, especially where the channel flows very close to the rock bluff opposite the boat ramp, is walleye country. Deep hard baits, and worm harness. They will be on the rim, inside the rim, or on the outside of the rim. When the thermocline hits 30, spoon jig the channel side of the rim near the bluff. The bass roam in wolf packs for the shad on the flat. Swim baits and FFS. 16 Drop shot in the shade under the bridge. The weird mark is the old bridge. 17 This cove can hold some bass near the mouth. Worth a quick check 18 Roaring River almost deserves a map to itself. The point at the south entrance good for Neds and spring warts. 19 This flat has gullies, humps, and rock walls. Another FFS good spot. The bass roam after the shad. Swim baits. If you find a hump, jig the sides. 20 Walleye hide in a groove near the unimproved boat ramp and along the submerged rock wall on the channel edge near there. The channel edge around the flat will hold walleye. 21 Woody spawning cove; spinner baits, Neds, creature baits. 22 This branch holds bass between the boat docks on the West side. 23 This is a long point that constitutes a navigation hazard at some lake levels. Bass and walleye school on the point. 24 Just past this boat dock, on the same side and in the trees is excellent walking bait territory.

Then use it upside down by reeling backwards.

OK. Here is the deal. No one has stepped up and offered to buy the Revo MGX or the Lews Custom Tournament Pro. I don't want to throw reels this good into the trash or the Goodwill bin. Buy either one for $90 or both for $160. That covers my shipping and a good breakfast with a bloody Mary. Let me know.

1 Across and downstream from Houseman ramp, Blue Spring enters. Late Spring/early summer jerk baits 2 Cow patty flats-From the cut downstream 75 yards, crawler harness or minnow tipped jig for walleye 3 Shoals, be careful 4 Small island with submerged timber on both sides. Between island and shore Bass on topwater and spinnerbait. Channel side and points, crawler harness for walleye. Small cut upstream-bass on topwater and plastic, especially when Beaver flowing cold water 5 Butler creek, spawning cove, also try the points at the mouth 6 Upstream of Beaver bridge fish topwaters and spinnerbaits above the flooded brush and moss 7 Old railroad bridge-dropshot for bass 8 Sand flat at channel swing: C rig crawler walleye 9 Sand bass on flats 10 Ned from number around to the submerged fence posts 11 Wart bank 12 Trees – crappie, walleye on crawler harness, trolled hard baits, spoon jigging 13 Flat bank with hidden point toward channel C rig fish doctor or crawler walleye, bass, and large bluegill 14 Crank bait for bass 15 Fish laydowns with spinnerbait or topwater; spawning area as well 16 Channel edge across from marina side holds bass and walleye 17 Marina and ramp

Stripers in the North Fork White River?
rps replied to ZachPinnell's topic in North Fork of the White River
Makes sense. Stripers are in the river below Beaver dam. The Arkansas striper record came from there. Edit: I love autocorrect. I almost posted an accident. -

I love the picnic table pattern! -
My tyvek Table Rock map has arrived. The drafting pens as well. Tracing paper is due Saturday. I have reviewed the map, comparing it to memory. This will be fun.

Do you think we will see 935 like we did in 2011? When I left Eureka, the green paint mark was still on the bluff upstream from Eagle Rock.

Intrigued by the BFS thing, is it another gimmick?
rps replied to dan hufferd's topic in General Angling Discussion
I suggest this: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Lews_Tournament_Pro_LFS_Casting_Reel/descpage-LTPS.html It sounds self serving, but I have one for sale. Really, it is a coincidence. Let me know. -
Once more to the boat-info well...
rps replied to kjackson's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Once upon a time a company up north made a hydraulic accessory that stopped engine torque on tillers. Because it competed with Mercury's Big Tiller models. The bought the company and the patent and did a Johnny Morris. I had one on the Alumacraft tiller boat. I was great. -

I gave up on Shimano Curados with the D series, the green ones. I had two go bad in less than a year and couldn't get a replacement or refund. I bear grudges for a long time. Since then, I have bought daiwa and lews. Both have good reels in the $150 to $250 range. They are also often on sale. That price range also marks the difference from the $80 to $120 reels that do not last as well. I came to prefer the narrow spool versions. The wide spools just make the line companies happy. From the suggested price point up, the "better" reels go up in price very quickly. You get less for each additional dollar, but if you want to spend $700, knock your lights out. 🙂 Bait casting tips: 1. Set the spool tension so that your bait slowly drops to the ground and the spool doesn't spin much when the bait stops. 2. Before you cast, turn your wrist so that your thumb faces inward. This makes the wrist flex more natural and improves accuracy. 3. Your thumb should very lightly graze the line as the bait flies and stop the spool just before or as soon as the bait hits the water. It also makes it easier to stop the baits headed for the trees. 4. Avoid heroic casts for length. They inevitably result in backlashes. Good luck. -
I grow in containers on my patio. I have lost several tomato plants to drowning and several others are not thriving. If I get a crop I will be lucky. The sugar snaps have done well, but have ceased flowering already. Really short season.

Just above the red circle on the right side of the river, you can see an island. The both sides of the island have submerged trees.. I have caught multiple walleyes on the channel side and both long points. Between the island and the bank on the non channel side, morning top water fishing can be good at times in May/June. Across the river on the left side and a little bit upstream, see the cuts? They hold bass. Try it early mornings and when Beaver is releasing cold water. Top waters, buzz baits over and around the timber, and finesse worms (or Neds). On the outside bend, I have never caught large numbers, but what I did catch bit wacky rigged senkos up against the bluff.

I kept looking and could not find the map I wanted to use. I bought one of the tyvek fishing maps and I will trace the lake and annotate it. Probably 4 or 5 panels from Houseman to Emerald Beach. This will be a long project, but I will start up river and post as I work down lake.
