  1. Ok, thanks for the update, Neb! Appreciate you sharing information on your trip.
  2. Nice pictures! How was launching out of Indian Point? I'm thinking about putting in there tomorrow. thanks.
  3. Guys, thank for your inputs. Just looking for less crowded options to get the boat on the water.
  4. Does anyone know if you can launch from Joe Bald campground? i know its been closed for sometime, but I was able to launch from there after it closed, but that's been quite a while. Haven't been there in along while. Just looking for other launch options. Thanks for any info.
  5. On Sunday, it was a little dingy between Cape Fair marina and virgin bluff.
  6. Will certainly keep Aaron and his family in our prayers.
  7. Glad to hear your wife is doing good. Well have her and your family in our prayers.
  8. We will have you in our prayers, Bill, and wish you a speedy recovery. Always enjoy your posts and tremendous insights and information. I will be getting a new knee, also in December. Everyone I have talked to that has had it done said it is great!
  9. Took my 82 year old Dad out Saturday and put in at Aunt's Creek about 9:00. Fished till about 1:00 and we caught 6 total- 4 keepers. My Dad caught 5 of them and had 3 nice keepers- 2 largemouth and 1 Kentucky- I had 1 keeper LM. Used smoke grubs mostly and were fishing out deep in 40-50 fow, mostly vertical fishing trying to locate trees and fish on the graph. We caught a couple near the mouth of Aunts Creek, went up to Jackson Hollow and finished up near point 11. Great day to be out and my Dad had a good time. I tried the jerk bait some but got nothing. Dropped a spoon also, fished the ned rig some- just couldn't get bit. Water temp. was 43 when we started and 48 when we left. All in all, still a good day to be outdoors with my Dad.
  10. We will also be praying for Stacey and his family-the power of prayer is real!
  11. Does anyone know if you can still put in at the old Joe Bald park?
  12. Would like information on identifying structure, such as channel swings, long points, bluff ends, etc. and how to best identify them on a lake map. Also, a refresher on best places to fish jerk baits.
  13. Can't beat smoke with red flake on the single tail grubs.
  14. My brother and I fished Saturday with no luck. Caught 1 crappie from about 8:00 to 1:00. We fished mostly above Marsh Cove. The 1 I caught was on the steep bank just above Marsh Cove. We went on up as far as the flats on the left at the turn before the bridge. We use pearl swimming minnows, mostly 1/16 head, but used some 1/8 head. I use red jig heads with white eyes and some chartruese heads. Went back towards Bear Den Cove and fished some for bass also-jerkbaits, jigs, wiggle wart, but had not luck. Just wasn't our day I guess. We probably should have went on up towards the Flat Creek bridge to find the crappie? Did find the underwater point Josh referred to! Luckily, I was idling slow and was in less than 1 foot of water all of a sudden! We will try it again and better luck next time. I do appreciate all the great information on this site and enjoy everyone's input.
  15. We had a tough day also Saturday. Fished from Aunts Creek to just past Baxter. Between me, my brother and my Dad, we had about a dozen (all smallmouth and spots) and only 1 keeper smallie, which my brother caught on a wiggle wart (green craw) between point 9 and wolfpen in a small cove with rocky bank. I caught 3 on a smoke with red flake tube and my Dad always likes to throw a grub and he caught 4 (BPS smoke with copper and red flake). I really thought it would be much better with the cloudy skies, but it was sure slow. Water temp. about 55.
  16. You, your wife and family will be in our prayers,Don.
  17. Does anyone ever use the Joe Bald park ramp to put in? Is it accessible now? Thanks for the info.
  18. Does anyone know if the ramp at Joe Bald is OK to put in? Thanks.
  19. Took my Dad out today for this birthday. Fished mostly in Mill Creek. Had 4 keepers-2 smallmouth and 2 Kentuckys. Had 1 nice Smallmouth- 3 and a quarter lbs. Caught 7-8 shorts also. Most on brown/purple football jig with green pumplin paca chunk trailer in 10-15 feet off of rocky banks/points. Caught some right off trees in 15-18 feet with smoke/red flake tube. My Dad was swimmin a smoke grub and caught 4-5 in 12-18 feet, mostly around trees. Had a nice one hang him in a tree first thing this AM in the cove next to Joe Bald park-never saw it. All in all, not a bad day-great weather. No wind so I put the blade down pretty quick and stayed with the jig mostly. Did throw a red fin early-had 1 smack at it, but that was about it. Appreciate all the good info. on this site-thought I should contribute something. Water temp. today was 65-66.
  20. We will keep your wife in our prayers and good luck to you.
  21. I have been fishing the Heartland Pro/Ams as an Amateur for the past 2 years. I have enjoyed them and its a great format. I finished 6th overall this year and will fish again in 2009, not sure after that.
  22. Is there any way a guy could fish from the bank on Beaver right now for white bass? Thanks for the input.
  23. Hit the water at 7:30 and fished until 11:30. Fished in 45-60 feet of water near point 9 area towards the back of a cove and caught 20+ Kentuckys-9 keepers, biggest about 16.5 inches, most 14-15 inch range. Used smoke colored 4 inch grubs. They were very active for me from 7:45-10:00 and slowed down after that. They were feeding pretty heavy on shad, a few of them were spitting up shad after I got them in the boat.
  24. Does anyone know where I can find Hawg Jaw spinnerbaits? I heard the company went out of business-don't know if anyone still carries some inventory or not. Thanks for the info.
  25. Should have taken the advice about going to K-dock. We fished from 86 bridge to Cricket Creek Marina with only 1 keeper. Fished mostly timber off bluffs, also went in to Blairs Branch, fishing the trees in 30 feet of water. At least it was a nice day, but very frustrating. Any ideas about what's going on with the crappie in this area? The water temp. was 55 degrees-should be about right.
