  1. I don't think it usually happens lake wide at once so you can find area not affected.
  2. "Then make sure you only eat fish you catch." Either me or someone I know. I'd also prefer my catfish out of the White River Arm, but that's just me. However I will say back in the 80's I had access to some pond raised, never frozen, catfish out of Mississippi that was some of the best I've ever tasted.
  3. I refuse to eat any fish from SW Asia.
  4. I'd think there are a lot of fish, with faster growth rates that would be more viable. I'd think at least two years to reach a marketable size.
  5. Got out for a short trip to Shell Knob this afternoon. Actually did better than I thought, considering they aren't drawing any water and no wind. Biggest fish was on the Ned, a 17 inch largemouth, halfway back in a creek. Only other keeper was a spot, caught popping a tube next to a dock on a gravel flat. Caught shorts on the Ned, a tube and a Dixie Jet spoon. Both keepers came at around 20 feet.
  6. Don't be afraid to get the polycarbonate lenses in Costa's either. Glass lenses are nice but even the cheaper Costa's are well worth the price. A site called steep and cheap https://www.steepandcheap.com/rc/sunglasses-on-sale usually has Costa's at a good price. I'm a big fan of copper or copper-based lenses for all around fishing. In Solar Bats, Mossback is the lens you want. Either of those really make the fish pop. https://www.steepandcheap.com/costa-rooster-400g-sunglasses-polarized?skid=CDM009Z-WHLOS400GNMILE-ONESIZ&ti=UExQIFJ1bGUgQmFzZWQ6U3VuZ2xhc3NlcyBPbiBTYWxlOjE6NTo= https://www.steepandcheap.com/costa-straits-polarized-sunglasses-costa-580-polycarbonate-lens?skid=CDM3173-BLACOPS580P-ONESIZ&ti=UExQIFJ1bGUgQmFzZWQ6U3VuZ2xhc3NlcyBPbiBTYWxlOjE6MTo=
  7. Only meet him a couple times but he was definitely a local legend and true gentleman, prayer sent for his family.
  8. Got out yesterday afternoon a couple hours, only caught one keeper LM on a jig, had a few shorts. Mainly fished windy bluff banks with broken rock, worked the jig down to 20 feet or so. Fishing the lower Kings River area.
  9. Not necessarily, I know a guy that owes a massive student loan debt, in the 100's of thousands. Rather than get a job in his field where he'd have to make payments, he works a low level job making less money but gets to keep it all.
  10. I"m sorry but free speech has been only reserved for those that have the "proper" opinions .
  11. I spent the totality pretty much in the middle of a soybean field, out in the boonies. Looking forward to the next one as I'll be a lot better prepared to get cool pics. Seen several partials but hadn't seen the corona before.
  12. I really think getting the politicians involved is a waste of time. Guys it's PUBLIC water, they aren't going to outlaw any type of boat and it's a proven fact that you can't legislate common sense. Might as well just man up and learn to live with the popularity of our chosen waters.
  13. It's a good deal for sure.
  14. A problem I'd love to have
  15. Wish I could stay awake after dark. Nice report.
  16. Do I remember that you have a custom casting rod made for the Ned?

Still not bad for $60, had original tags and doesn't appear to be repaired.

St. Croix uses a very decent set of blanks. My top water rod is built on a St. Croix blank. I have built other rods using one of their handle kits.Like all mass produced rods (even Loomis) the guides are sometimes too large, heavy, or infrequent. Nonetheless, you can use them and ignore an occasional line rub unless you are nit picky like I have become.

I'll be able to ignore it right up to the point I think it cost me a fish.

  17. You'll definitely need the dollies if you need to get it over that far, I'd think.
  18. I've lived two places that the eight foot doors were a bear to get the tandem lined up with, including where I currently store the boat. I usually back it in a little then push the rest of the way. Takes some getting used to BUT the tandem makes losing a tire a less traumatic experience, had that happen twice also.
  19. When I used to teach kids to cast, in the old kids casting events, I had them hold paper between their arm and their body. Keeps your arm in a casting position, and forces you to cast with your wrist more than your arm.
  20. I don't see how a five pound block of ice is a shock absorber, even if it does cool the water.
  21. Actually 40 lb braid handles better for me than the smaller stuff on a BC.
  22. Solar only just enough for the lifts, night lights and security system. The bluff trail isn't suitable for wheeled conveyances and 180 pounds of batteries for me would be a major effort. That's why only the pontoon stays there, not the fishing boat.
  23. The dock I use is at least a fifty yard hike, down the bluff, thru the woods, watch out for copperheads on the way. Carrying three trolling batteries at my age isn't an option, I'd like to attempt. What is piddly convenience for you might be a major effort for others around the lake.
  24. Doesn't even have any pole type anchors installed, they are really going cheap for an anniversary edition. I'd like all the bells and whistles on mine. Looks like I'll only have to shell out about 5 years worth of my military retirement too own this baby. On another note those consoles are the ugliest I've ever seen from that picture.
  25. Most of the ocean liner type boats have power generators onboard, so it shouldn't affect them as much as the smaller dock owners. The dock I use is already solar powered, but I don't keep the fishing boat there since I can't charge batteries.
