  1. Fish feed in the current using current breaks to ambush food, be it a dislodged hellgrammite, madtoms or crawfish or minnow, stealth IMHO is important bigger fish didn’t get that way eating things as a canoe or kayaks banging along, don’t be afraid to slow down beach the boat and wade really fishy stretches, so if your fishing bite off less river, I’m not a big fan of braid, a lite outfit, 6 -8 lbs green line works great, crawfish plastics on heaver than you think heads are a go too, 1/4 to 3/8 to get down in current, they make some really nice hellgramite plastics that work well, small top waters, tried and true minnow plugs and craw cranks produce.., however nothing out produces live bait on pressured fish, red hooks colored shot and a natural looking float like thill brand, bring a good minnow trap and crackers, if you camp a crawfish trap, if you can keep things cool, conditioned night crawlers are hard to beat this time of year..,( look up how to condition crawlers) if you watch fish eat spots and largemouths even rock bass let those smallies go they take so long to get nice sized a 2 pounder plus is to valuable to catch once

  5. Al, it can be argued that the only way to reduce mans co2 footprint is de-population, and so far the doom gloom of the media pushes the hippie green agenda... the hot weather in Alaska is all over the news, yet have you heard of the record cold in Australia? NO!!!! This makes the second winter in a row that records are being set, ironically weather models suggest onset of ice age conditions show short extremely hot summers, we still don’t understand why, be funny if they eliminated carbon from our lives only to see a global ice age, build co2 plants in an effort to warm the planet woops https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-05-31/cold-morning-in-southern-queensland/11166790
  6. Some studies suggest the low co2 of the past was because less life on the planet, humans for sure are many billions more that the ice age past...
  7. It seems Mars has been warming as well Red Planet Heats Up: Ice Age Ending on Mars https://www.space.com/33001-mars-ice-age-ending-now.html

  10. If you look at the numbers, we are at 400 ppm of CO2 up from about 280 ppm about 1850....*1850 is an important date as the end of a several hundred year cooling “the little ice age” anthropomorphic climate change is said to have started at the birth of the Industrial Age. However the highest jump in co2 was in the 60’s from 325 ppm to about 400 a jump of 75 ppm in 50 years...that’s 75 cents vs a million pennies, tiny trace gasses...if you look at the data, we have yet to reach warming events (at least 4) in man’s historical past...well before coal fired electrical plants, steel mills, and automobiles...yes the rate of co2 has jumped, but our ability to track is far better than during the Minoan warming....the human population exhaling co2 has jumped billions just over the last 2000 years, add methane and other greenhouse gases...so it boils down to how would you reduce greenhouse gases to 1850 levels? And are those costs worth the gamble when we don’t understand why we had previous warming ( and cooling) in mans past?. Time is vast we still are learning... the time of cleopatra is closer to the iPhone than to the building of the great pyramid, here we are predicting changes that have occurred many times in the past...what do we know? Our climate has been extremely stable over the last 5k years...yet we know know we have fluctuated wildly before that time...what causes climate change for sure? Getting smacked by an asteroid/comet, and large or cumulative volcanic eruptions, anthropomorphic climate change hasn’t been proven overtime yet...below are some graphs to ponder
  11. I think it’s more interesting to catch alot of different things
  12. Interesting... In my youth gulf croakers were a fun catch ran from 1 1/2 to 5 # considered a less desirable food fish because they were boney...at least till the huge influx of Vietnamese in the mid to late 70s , they would cook the croakers and flake the meat off the bones and prepared a fish cake that was a close match for blue crab cakes... size and numbers of croakers crashed... back then most gulf states had no license or limits fishing salt water... that and the devastation of red fish populations brought about changes
  13. Spot? Looks like a croaker?
  14. Nice! ....wintertime deep spooning is effective as well, also a little pinch of a crawler on the hook will double you eye catch

  17. The reason they don’t say global warming now, it’s climate change
  18. Then there is southern California and los Vegas last winter https://youtu.be/bGd-OoaYQ_4 https://youtu.be/lGCpVHvZdaU

  20. Interestingly Alaska and Siberia were much warmer during the last ice age, perhaps a sign of a return? https://www.gi.alaska.edu/alaska-science-forum/why-was-interior-alaska-green-during-last-ice-age https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21328464-900-siberia-was-a-wildlife-refuge-in-the-last-ice-age/
  21. Unless we get a mega burst of heat, this summer will be one of the coolest I have experienced in my 59 years, can’t ever remember it staying under 90 this late into the summer, from the long range forecast looks the same, I think last year hit 100 just once...if anything the trend over the last few years has been colder and wetter...I remember the fear of a return to an ice age in the late 70s early 80s....went on my 1st Canadian fishing adventure in June of 1980...the day we left we stopped at the old consumers grocery store in Carthage and the remnants of the ginormous ice/snow pile from so many cleaning off the parking lot and street plowing was still a melting black blob ice pile colored by the cinders they used to spread on everything then, pile was still the size of a VW beetle, finally giving up its grip in the 3rd week of June....get to lake of the woods and the ice had just left the weekend before...pike...yellow perch, muskies, all 1sts for me...was an interesting trip for a 19 year old, seeing things like porcupines, snowshoe hares in summer coats, pine martens, moose and the plethora of northern water fowl on the lake, loons, grebes...everyone should experience a Canada trip at least once.....anyways below is a link to that 30 year old report, keep that in mind next time someone screams carbon tax https://www.apnews.com/bd45c372caf118ec99964ea547880cd0
  22. I as most know am a carp angler, yet don’t understand the need to shoot everything, until the Asian carp apocalypse Missouri had a 20 fish limit, still is for everything but grass, bighead, silver, black and common carp....many bfers shoot and toss back the fish they shoot don’t have to clean anything even if it’s edible, besides who would eat anything that rode in a barrel all night no ice in July heat...many times fish get dumped at the boat ramps or side of the road....not all bfers do this...but enough do...some areas of the USA people have sought regulations to protect trophy carp areas. It pains me that walleyes don’t get more protections considering just how huge our native river strain can get ( perhaps slot limits?)... don’t get me started on gigging Ozark smallmouth streams...it amazes me on how just a very few can devastate a fishery, be it gill netting paddlefish, snagging bass off beds, or bfing the biggest oldest alligator gar, buffalo and common carp...
  23. That’s from Nebraska, but they can bf bass, ( any stabbing method), apparently it’s pretty easy to shoot them off the beds...I’m not a big fan of stab fishing....
