  1. The posts about balance coupled with age are right on the money. Try combining that with the long-term neuropathy that hits the extremities post-chemo. I'm just now, three years later, getting confident enough to venture out alone, but not on a windy day or this weekend. It's surprising how much of your balance depends on sensation/nerves in your feet and when that goes numb you have to kind of re-learn your balance based on your Vision. Some smart person needs to invent some kind of ladder that can be reached by a person in the water after falling out of a Bass Boat where the person can actually climb back into the boat unassisted.
  2. OK, after reading this I'm starting to believe our visiting Daughter's story about her BIG dog jumping over the deck railing and chasing one down the shoreline last night about 02:30. Baxter area.
  3. The South end is sm-o-o-o-o-thed out now and no worries. Bridge opened Thurs. afternoon and seems a little wider than before. Can't tell yet if they removed the "No Wake" buoys ( that many of the play-boats ignored ) under the Bridge.
  4. Yep, they are hustling to sweep it and make final preparations. Supposed to open sometime tomorrow Thursday 5-26. Until they do something more gradual and permanent I'd suggest a little caution at the South end approaching and departing from those new slabs they poured just beyond the ends of the bridge on Hwy 13.
  5. We have our shade tree staked out, some comfortable lawn chairs and cold beverages all ready for the weekend "launching entertainment" at Baxter If we see a feller with a Bass Boat trying to launch just holler and we'll figure out some way to save you a parking space. Bring lot's of cotton balls for earplugs if you object to some pretty rough language.
  6. When TR gets high enough you can use the trolling motor and get almost up to the Hwy. 86 bridge and see Dogwood. Those trout can come from Roaring River or from the very upper end of TR too. Nice fish !
  7. Best slow down when you reach the South end of the Bridge. The Contractor poured a new slab of concrete on 13 Highway where it joins the Bridge deck. That slab is about 5 inches or so higher than the surface of Hwy. 13 and they have a temporary (hopefully) asphalt ramp taking you down from the elevated slab to the existing Highway surface. You hit that sucker at speed and you're going to get a little bit of a surprise ! The wakeboarders call it " getting air " ;-) !
  8. Is this the first report of Zebras in TR or have I missed others ? Thanks.
  9. Don't know if the scents stay on the bait very long but they do remove or replace the human smell we all leave behind when handling baits. Great tip Champ 188...thanks.
  10. ha ha....understatement of the year (, ) "wind was terrible".
  11. Yep, amazed that I've never heard anyone speak of catching a Drum while fishing at TR while a lot of guys catch them often at LOZ.
  12. If they have, there is no one else to blame but the current Administration and his "caving in" to the Commercial Barge lobby. There were plans to construct a physical barrier instead of relying on the questionable electric fence but the Barge Lobby objected and now the Great Lakes Fishery is in danger. Great Lakes Fishery Biologists agree that the Asian Carp pose a bigger problem than the Lamprey Eels and the Zebra Mussels combined.
  13. Contrary to rumors floating around the bars and grocery stores yesterday afternoon that had folks in a near panic....: http://www.ozarksfirst.com/news/modot-plans-to-keep-kimberling-city-bridge-open Notice the "under-bridge" debris-catchment construction is submerged and that will probably delay bridge re-construction timing if the wave action damages it.
  14. Correct, Table Rock authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1941. Navigation not a factor. See fourth paragraph under "Additional Information" heading/section, last sentence in the paragraph. http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Lakes/TableRockLake/DamandLakeInformation.aspx
  15. You can forget windy banks. Hard to believe the amount of leaves, trash, driftwood, trees etc. that is floating up against a shoreline exposed to this NW wind. Just looked outside and the "crap-line" extends out an easy 35 feet from the current high water line at the bank edge. Seems to be mostly leaves and that is going to really hit the pH hard from all the Tannin in the leaf litter.
  16. So it's 12:46 A. M. and sleep ain't happening and I'm screwing around on the Computer. But what to my wondering ears goes zooming by but a Bass Boat on Dec. 23 at very high speed ! Hard core indeed, but hey, it is (amazingly) 59 degrees and the Moon is bright thru the openings in the clouds !
  17. If you aren't local and/or haven't heard, the Bridge closes for 24 hours to all traffic at 7 AM Tuesday Dec. 8th and is scheduled to re-open at 7 AM Wednesday Dec. 9th. Saw a couple of anglers towing their rigs across the Bridge yesterday and, if you haven't been across it lately, it's claimed to be about 9'6" in the open lane at best. Not much wiggle room..
  18. If you purchased a Mustang Brand auto-inflating PFD lately, you might want to read these. Came to me in a letter from Bass Pro today.

  20. At today's prices and if you plan on keeping whatever you purchase for a few years, I'd pay close attention to Matt's #2. Lowrance has this Corporate Policy of declaring their units "obsolete" after a while Won't support them and won't repair them and you are then forced to buy another unit. Of course, it's up to you. Good luck !
  21. thank you.
  22. Wrench...answer...a dishonest Mechanic ! ;-)
  23. Phil, When I make a simple, hopefully informative post about downstream water levels and the opportunity for the ACOE to reduce water levels in the Tri-Lakes chain from the lengthy and troublesome high levels this Summer and some know-it-all blasts me for my use of the word "choice", yeah, that sets me off. No, there's no "history" and that's the other part of the problem. Total stranger (to me) types an accusatory comment about my use of the word "choice" (what else would you call it when none existed before ?) and I'm not going to "take it".
  24. Thanks.
  25. You're quite welcome, now if you had just kept your all-knowing, contradictory comment to yourself in the first place instead of popping-off about someone's post that wasn't remotely directed at you and none of your business, none of this unfortunate exchange would have happened. You continue to prove my point with each succeeding outburst but, again, you started it.
