Need SS# to purchase a permit in Missouri as of today
skeeter replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Nationwide is what I was told, not just one State. Yes, they want to track you from womb to tomb on everything you do. According to Sen. Sater's reply, the MDC wasn't aware they were not in compliance until just recently so for the past 21 years, the Feds nor the State didn't get any info from MO Anglers or Hunters.....and they didn't raise any objections to that and neither one brought it up. -
Need SS# to purchase a permit in Missouri as of today
skeeter replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
Received a thorough, lengthy reply from my State Senator (David Sater-R- District 29-from Cassville ) including copies of the State Statute after my contact with his office about this new and mostly unwelcome requirement. Turns out the MO State Legislature passed this law, to be in compliance with the Feds. who included recreational licenses, requiring SS # to obtain a license and other permits and licenses of various types back in 1997. Just recently, the MDC discovered they were not in compliance with the 1997 law and enacted the Soc. # requirement. Sen Sater pointed out he was not in Office back then and did not vote for this. -
Yep, back in the 70's catching a Brownie was unusual even up the James Arm and good luck with your intentions. Always thought the scarcity of Smallies in TR back then was strange since they inhabited the River prior to its damming.

"Next year a small, painless number tattooed on the inside of your left wrist. For your own safety, and security of course!"..... copied from "rjw1991A1" over on 1Branson. This new Statute to be enacted in response to my sarcastic comment about us "old-farts" that no longer need a fishing license. 😅🤔 -
Need SS# to purchase a permit in Missouri as of today
skeeter replied to Phil Lilley's topic in General Angling Discussion
If anyone's interested in details and facts including the Federal and State Statute language, I received this reply from my State Senator's office: Beginning May 30, 2018, the Department will require buyers of Missouri hunting, fishing, and trapping permits to provide their Social Security Number (SSN). This change is accordance with Federal Statute 42 U.S.C. § 666 and Missouri Revised Statute 454.403 which requires the collection of a SSN on any application for a professional, occupational, or recreational license. This requirement also applies to free landowner permits. This requirement does not apply to commercial permits. Now...what about us old-farts that don't need a fishing license anymore ? 😁 -
Need SS# to purchase a permit in Missouri as of today

Not exactly a "revolution" but a demand for responsible government ( I know, lately, that's an oxymoron). If you've ever gone through the expense of having your Identity stolen, which access to a Soc. Sec. number enables, you'd understand my concerns. It ain't fun and ain't cheap. There is no such thing as "secure storage" of a number on any Computer system just like there is no such thing as an unbreakable lock. -

I know how I feel about it...and it's another load of Government bureaucrat horse dung. Screw them, I'll pay a fine for no license before they get mine because there is no valid reason they need your Soc. Sec. number to issue a fishing or hunting license. No wonder so many I.D. thefts are occurring and illegals are easily producing SS #'s to drain our welfare budgets....this is the reason. Remember back when you used to sign up for your SS card and were directly informed that the SS number was not to be used for Identification ? Remember when MO started requiring SS numbers on your driver's license and we all raised Cain and got that nonsense stopped ? THIS is more of that nonsense. Stop being a nation of sheep and tell them they are wrong and demand immediate action. Contacting my State Senator and Representative about this garbage right now. Bombard them with emails ! If this truly is, as some think, a tool used for child support enforcement, it is a very poor "tool" and there are far better, more effective ways to corral deadbeats. -
Sometimes I think "jack salmon" meant the old-timers were referring to Sauger ( ??? ) which don't get as large as the real Walleye but are more commonly caught in the warmer Rivers. I've caught both by accident, Walleye in TR and Sauger in the lower Meramec, and the Sauger is fugly with a mottled or multi-colored skin compared to the closely related Walleye.

We were all three of us throwing Keitechs on weighted swimbait hooks at the time and had some great hits but could never hook anything. Assumed they were the Gar but the swimbaits weren't torn up and we couldn't find any teeth marks on them so who knows. Assume you were referring to the habit of some big Bass following underneath the Gar schools and picking off the leftovers as they float down ? I probably should have tied on a flutter spoon and tried that.

We had what turned into a hilarious experience yesterday when I had one Grandson and a Daughter out fishing (at the wrong time of day due to "orders from on-high" ). This wake boat towing a slalom-skier at a required, much-greater speed than the usual wake-producing, boat-swamping "plowing" they usually do had the slalom-skier fall down just 75 yds. behind us. While they're recovering the skier a huge argument among the people on the wake-boat breaks out with shouting and screaming probably heard for miles and miles. It went on for a good 10-15 minutes with this one woman with an exceptionally loud mouth throwing all kinds of insults and threats. We thought it was going to get physical at a couple of points and we're just trying our best to ignore it and not "suggest" they take their squabble somewhere else. At first it was really funny but then got very annoying and, in today's crazy world, we were wondering if they were going to pull out a weapon. Yes, it got THAT bad ! All we could do was laugh and shake our heads and the fight finally left the area. Then on our way back into the dock, there was a poor guy/gal towing one of those really short jet-ski trailers trying to launch and he/she had the thing totally jackknifed behind the tow vehicle with two people on either side of the pickup giving directions on which way to turn the steering wheel. Yikes ! Yeah, "valet launching" might be a good money maker service but I confess to having done it for free several times just to help out. Oh, and the fishing sucked but man did we see a huge school of BIG GAR which were coming up to slurp minnows right alongside the boat to keep us entertained.

Rodmaker….If you were like most working guys with a M-F work-day schedule you had the motto: TGIF quickly followed by OHIM ( O he** it's Monday ). You'll probably quickly switch the days out in those Acronyms now that you are going to retire here. Congrats and welcome !!

Hunter, you are far from being alone in this. Reduction in the numbers of "Regatta Permits" issued by the Water Division of the Highway Patrol for TR during a short, crowded time period and the apparently money-driven MDC resistance to installing "catch, measure, photograph and release at boatside" regulations during the Spawning Season for ALL anglers on ALL Lakes (same as they have on State streams) needs some serious re-thinking. There, I said it, let the slings and arrows commence. Don't care anymore, it needs saying. Glad you had a good time otherwise on your trip.
-
You're very welcome and it was my pleasure to meet you folks. I have to confess for selfish reasons I was calling all around trying to find out if the water in the gas that you had narrowed it down to was the source of your problem and finally Bob at your Lodge told me Curt Pollard (right down the road from me and a longtime friend and great mechanic) at Baxter Marine had worked on your boat. Turns out the recent fuel delivery via tanker-truck to the Marina was the culprit and I don't envy the new Marina owners having to deal with that although Curt said it was entirely the Gasoline Company's responsibility and they have protocols in place to deal with that. Hope you got back out, trouble-free, and are having a good and successful remainder to your trip.

So many boats were seen early Saturday morning going up the two Indians at Baxter that a guy out bank fishing could have probably walked to the other side and not gotten his feet wet. MDC needs to install catch and release regs. (at boat-side) during spawning season on Lakes just like they have on Streams.

FYI to all the usual and new snarky commenters...the individual who recognized the problem and knew where to turn off the supply valves is one of our wonderful Volunteer First Responders with the local F.D. He immediately called the main and Emergency phone number(s) for the Marina after shutting off the supply valves on THURSDAY !! I know him, as do most in the area, and he left messages on all the recorders because no one answered their phones. When the weather warmed up more on Friday and more people ventured out they called the same number(s), 24 hours later, when they noticed the gas slick floating on the water, the split-open metal supply pipe and the strong gasoline odor. The neighborhood was legitimately worried about a potential fire. Good to hear there was a response from the Marina personnel on Friday because only someone well equipped and knowledgeable about the dock and valve layout could have remedied this situation. Any other helpful comments ? Wise or otherwise ?
-
Not many private individuals are equipped or trained to remove a gasoline-filled 20' long section of 2" metal pipe located over the Lake water, catch all the gasoline that comes pouring out of the gas line it feeds from gas pumps located about 700' away and do so before it further pollutes Table Rock and do so safely without generating any sort of a spark or ignition source, and do all that when its not their Property. Maybe another "Classic" negative comment will help out with that.

Still no resolution as of Saturday. Walking out the ramp, the immediate area reeks of gasoline. Someone said the owner is reportedly out of the Country. Time for MO DNR and The Corps to step in ? Oh wait...forgot about the Fed. shutdown.
-
Big gasoline leak there Thursday spilling into the Lake down by the ramp. Someone shut off the valves from the storage tanks leading out onto the dock but the metal supply line is split open alongside the ramp and any of the remaining gas from the ramp all the way out to the gas-dock pumps spills out of the split pipe whenever anyone walks on the ramp. Owner was called 1-18 and informed but as of late yesterday, 1-19, nothing had been done.

42 is what I always heard as the lower limit of the Threadfin survival temp. Not sure about the Gizzard shad. It's gotta' be below that in the shallower Coves by now.
-
IMHO, after the last two years of VERY mild Winters and the resulting explosion in the Threadfin Shad population a good old nasty Winter (cold only, no heavy snow and ice storms please) that results in a thinning-out of the Threadfin population would be good for angling. After previous Winters similar to this one, so far, it resulted in a great crankbait bite once it warms enough for the Crawdads to come out of their Winter hidey-holes. When going down on the dock to keep batteries charged, I have to remember to look down in the water that has cleared up from the Plankton die-off and see if there are any dead Shad visible on the bottom. That's usually a good indicator of what's going on. I know the seagulls would sure appreciate it.
