  1. Gavin: You are right about Bull Sharks. Try telling folks about the documented catch in the 1930's of a Bull Shark in the Mississippi all the way up just above the confluence with the Missouri and they don't believe. A local Resort owner who ran a large Welding Shop in New Orleans that was high enough to stay dry during the Katrina flooding said those things were in the flooded streets of New Orleans. Don't know whether to believe that or not but he also said they are known to be in Lake Pontchartrain.
  2. Those "cattle rotting in the tree-tops" were bad enough but so were all the numerous caskets that bobbed to the surface and washed downstream where the Missouri had inundated River bottom cemeteries. The Media reported it but, out of respect for the dead, did not publish too many pictures.
  3. There are ways to stop them. One is to build and use a "fish box" if you keep what you catch. Nothing new, guys at our local Marina have had them for decades to keep their caught fish deep in cooler water and keep the turtles away. Otter re-introduction by MDC was maybe the biggest screw-up they ever made.
  4. LMAO ! Wait a minute...thought this was Shark Week ? 😉 But on a serious issue: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/07/25/girl-catches-piranha-like-fish-oklahoma-lake/839107002/ Some idiot has released Pacu that are related to Pirhana. Hope it was just the one.....
  5. Hoping everyone reading this has checked their steering connections by now or before they get in their boat again and looked to see if the nut on the connector bolt has those "bend-over" tabs properly installed that Wrench told us about and that the bolt used is the correct one with a shoulder on it.
  6. That brings up the question ( the bolt that goes through the motor lost its nut ) as to why the manufacturers of Sea Star steering systems aren't using Castellated ( or Castle) nuts and bolts with cotter pins securing them so this scenario cannot happen. Wrench ? Do they or are they just Nyloc ?
  7. I was wondering about the Hydrogen Peroxide too. BTW.... Thanks for the tip too on the Hot Water heater. My Wife has always used it for cleaning wounds but now there have been a lot of Medical Professionals warning that is a no-no https://advancedtissue.com/2014/07/debunking-myths-wound-care/ and that it actually prevents healing in some way. Sounds like when it's added to water it releases the extra Oxygen molecule in the H2O2 like it does when it creates those little bubbles on a wound.
  8. SOS again ? How's that ? Great information and advice. Thanks to mixermarkb for sharing with the membership.
  9. So a neighbor who owns his own Dock told me that a couple of years ago the ACOE mandated no electrically powered water pumps on docks due to risk of electrocution. Now, another neighbor tells me the local Marina owner says the ACOE has mandated removal of ALL Fish Cleaning stations from docks and discarding fish remains into the Lake after cleaning them is no longer allowed. Anyone else aware of this? The local Turtles and Crawdads are pissed !
  10. Uh-oh, that doesn't sound good 😉 The LOZ MSWP used to have decibel meters on their boats too and used them and that's getting to be needed on TR but, heck, we seldom see a Water Cop...unless you pass by the location of a water-accessible bar after dark.
  11. Hiring a Lawyer is usually the smart thing, in the long run, to do because the fines and Court Costs for any moving violation goes on your record ( yessir, even on the water ) that the thieving Insurance Companies get hold of and that fine and Kangaroo Court Cost will seem small after they use the excuse to jack-up your Premiums for the next three to five years. Had never heard your information before about no jurisdiction on the night speed limit thing, thanks for mentioning that.
  12. I'm sure you know that there is a 30 MPH speed limit after Sunset on Missouri waters. Rumors have it that the largely invisible Water Division of the MSHP has been enforcing that recently on TR. I guess someone loaned them a Radar Gun ? 30 MPH sure beats Indiana's law which allows only Idle Speed after dark and they enforce it but don't have the number of acres of water that Missouri does.
  13. If you care to, there is space at the bottom of the article in the link for some appropriate comments about that extreme weigh-in distance or whatever.
  14. I used to favor one Party over the other but came to the conclusion several years ago they are ALL interested in one thing and one thing only and that is to fill their wallets. That and to get re-elected so they can feed at the Public Trough and collect their Pensions. At least we have Term Limits in MO but why do we have Pensions for Elected Officials ? And please don't get me started on those thieves at the Federal level.
  15. Nationwide is what I was told, not just one State. Yes, they want to track you from womb to tomb on everything you do. According to Sen. Sater's reply, the MDC wasn't aware they were not in compliance until just recently so for the past 21 years, the Feds nor the State didn't get any info from MO Anglers or Hunters.....and they didn't raise any objections to that and neither one brought it up.
  16. Received a thorough, lengthy reply from my State Senator (David Sater-R- District 29-from Cassville ) including copies of the State Statute after my contact with his office about this new and mostly unwelcome requirement. Turns out the MO State Legislature passed this law, to be in compliance with the Feds. who included recreational licenses, requiring SS # to obtain a license and other permits and licenses of various types back in 1997. Just recently, the MDC discovered they were not in compliance with the 1997 law and enacted the Soc. # requirement. Sen Sater pointed out he was not in Office back then and did not vote for this.
  17. Yep, back in the 70's catching a Brownie was unusual even up the James Arm and good luck with your intentions. Always thought the scarcity of Smallies in TR back then was strange since they inhabited the River prior to its damming.
  18. "Next year a small, painless number tattooed on the inside of your left wrist. For your own safety, and security of course!"..... copied from "rjw1991A1" over on 1Branson. This new Statute to be enacted in response to my sarcastic comment about us "old-farts" that no longer need a fishing license. 😅🤔
  19. If anyone's interested in details and facts including the Federal and State Statute language, I received this reply from my State Senator's office: Beginning May 30, 2018, the Department will require buyers of Missouri hunting, fishing, and trapping permits to provide their Social Security Number (SSN). This change is accordance with Federal Statute 42 U.S.C. § 666 and Missouri Revised Statute 454.403 which requires the collection of a SSN on any application for a professional, occupational, or recreational license. This requirement also applies to free landowner permits. This requirement does not apply to commercial permits. Now...what about us old-farts that don't need a fishing license anymore ? 😁
  20. Not exactly a "revolution" but a demand for responsible government ( I know, lately, that's an oxymoron). If you've ever gone through the expense of having your Identity stolen, which access to a Soc. Sec. number enables, you'd understand my concerns. It ain't fun and ain't cheap. There is no such thing as "secure storage" of a number on any Computer system just like there is no such thing as an unbreakable lock.
  21. I know how I feel about it...and it's another load of Government bureaucrat horse dung. Screw them, I'll pay a fine for no license before they get mine because there is no valid reason they need your Soc. Sec. number to issue a fishing or hunting license. No wonder so many I.D. thefts are occurring and illegals are easily producing SS #'s to drain our welfare budgets....this is the reason. Remember back when you used to sign up for your SS card and were directly informed that the SS number was not to be used for Identification ? Remember when MO started requiring SS numbers on your driver's license and we all raised Cain and got that nonsense stopped ? THIS is more of that nonsense. Stop being a nation of sheep and tell them they are wrong and demand immediate action. Contacting my State Senator and Representative about this garbage right now. Bombard them with emails ! If this truly is, as some think, a tool used for child support enforcement, it is a very poor "tool" and there are far better, more effective ways to corral deadbeats.
  22. Sometimes I think "jack salmon" meant the old-timers were referring to Sauger ( ??? ) which don't get as large as the real Walleye but are more commonly caught in the warmer Rivers. I've caught both by accident, Walleye in TR and Sauger in the lower Meramec, and the Sauger is fugly with a mottled or multi-colored skin compared to the closely related Walleye.
  23. We were all three of us throwing Keitechs on weighted swimbait hooks at the time and had some great hits but could never hook anything. Assumed they were the Gar but the swimbaits weren't torn up and we couldn't find any teeth marks on them so who knows. Assume you were referring to the habit of some big Bass following underneath the Gar schools and picking off the leftovers as they float down ? I probably should have tied on a flutter spoon and tried that.
  24. We had what turned into a hilarious experience yesterday when I had one Grandson and a Daughter out fishing (at the wrong time of day due to "orders from on-high" ). This wake boat towing a slalom-skier at a required, much-greater speed than the usual wake-producing, boat-swamping "plowing" they usually do had the slalom-skier fall down just 75 yds. behind us. While they're recovering the skier a huge argument among the people on the wake-boat breaks out with shouting and screaming probably heard for miles and miles. It went on for a good 10-15 minutes with this one woman with an exceptionally loud mouth throwing all kinds of insults and threats. We thought it was going to get physical at a couple of points and we're just trying our best to ignore it and not "suggest" they take their squabble somewhere else. At first it was really funny but then got very annoying and, in today's crazy world, we were wondering if they were going to pull out a weapon. Yes, it got THAT bad ! All we could do was laugh and shake our heads and the fight finally left the area. Then on our way back into the dock, there was a poor guy/gal towing one of those really short jet-ski trailers trying to launch and he/she had the thing totally jackknifed behind the tow vehicle with two people on either side of the pickup giving directions on which way to turn the steering wheel. Yikes ! Yeah, "valet launching" might be a good money maker service but I confess to having done it for free several times just to help out. Oh, and the fishing sucked but man did we see a huge school of BIG GAR which were coming up to slurp minnows right alongside the boat to keep us entertained.
  25. Rodmaker….If you were like most working guys with a M-F work-day schedule you had the motto: TGIF quickly followed by OHIM ( O he** it's Monday ). You'll probably quickly switch the days out in those Acronyms now that you are going to retire here. Congrats and welcome !!
