  1. Yes please keep spreading that rumor.
  2. This. And search for deep water right next to shallow water. There are a few spots that are shallow and then drop off into the abyss. That's where you will find them. You are in the right area just gotta find those little sweet spots.
  3. Arrows would be more fun. We need a huge bow fishing tournament for them.
  4. Him and my uncle were fishing buddies back when he was just a fisheries biologist in Oklahoma. I was around him several times when I was too young to really appreciate what they were sitting around talking about. Saw him after my uncle passed away and we had a really good visit and I realized then that I should have paid more attention back when I had the chance. Awesome guy.
  5. Pay off everything. House, Cars. Then donate them to charity. Move to the beach and never look back. I wouldn't quit my job, they will have to figure that out on their own.

    What's Cooking?

My kids activities cause me to spend a lot of time around high school age kids. This sounds more like their talk than grown men talk.
  7. Great to hear JD!
  8. I doubt that anybody puts as much pressure on thread as I do. But now that I think about I do remember taking my jaws apart and roughing them up with some coarse sandpaper. That's probably the difference.
  9. Yep that's like mine. Adjust the front small screw tight first and then the big screw dial behind to pivot on the front screw and provide tension to the hook. All the o-ring does is provide tension to open the jaws once the dial is released. It's held everything from a 20 to a 4/0.
  10. Well they sure as hell didn't sneak up on any.
  11. You are correct.
  12. Sorry for hijacking Ron but I do love macro.
  13. One of these.
  14. Just have to be careful with the lights. Some of them get quite warm so you have to be careful where you set them.
  15. Another neat method to play with is to put a light underneath the subject. This was shot with the subject sitting on toilet paper on top of a small Styrofoam coffee cup with the end cut off. The cup was then placed over a small pot light that I purchased at Lowes.
  16. And there is a lot that you can do with different lighting. Actually once you figure out that photography is all about capturing light it all starts to make a lot more sense. This one looks like it has a black background but it doesn't. It's no photoshop trick either. If this was taken under normal light you would be able to see my kitchen in the background and all the kids pictures and papers hanging on the fridge. But since I used a small aperture and a fast shutter speed and a lot of light from a high powered flash it makes the background appear black.
  17. Nice shots Ron. Our methods are similar. I have to shoot off camera flash due to my setup. I only have one macro lens at 40mm. If I try to shoot with the flash on the shoe then the lens shades the subject from the flash. Because like you with the 35, I have to get real close with the 40. I've had good results using different lights as well though. If you are sure you have everything locked down you can have as long a shutter speed as you need. I did this one using a small flashlight.
  18. That's true but maybe if the producers that control what's shown would quit showing that crap they would clean up their act a bit. Their are a lot of people dirty on a deal like that.
  19. I'm confused by this. I've been tying on a Spider for at least 12 years and mostly tie large patterns. I never have had a problem with slipping. The rubber o-ring on mine has nothing to do with clamp tension. It's just there to open the jaws once tension is released.
  20. Mic if you like books (I do too) then check this one out. It's beautifully done. http://www.amazon.com/Barr-Flies-Emerger-Patterns-Variations/dp/0811702367/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1452092007&sr=1-1&keywords=barr+flies
  21. Yeah It was just announced so nobody knows for sure what it will do or how it will work. I doubt it will be that much competition for GoPro, probably geared more towards the serious film makers and I bet the price will be pretty steep as well.
  22. Trust me it isn't any easier to climb into a bass boat when it's cold outside. I had icicles in my beard by the time I made it back to the ramp. I don't think I could have climbed my lardass back up on a yak.
  23. If you come to Springfield then go to Plateau Fly Shop on South Campbell. Just north of Battlefield. Tell Jimmy you have no idea what you are doing and he will take care of you. Awesome guy.
  24. Me too. I don't do cats but I've had enough dogs to know that it isn't true.
