    Unfortunately in Springfield the best options for kids have been closed to fishing due to ignorance of the park board. Fellows isn't bad but with the water up it might be hard to find a spot where they can get past the bushes. The rivers offer some good options. The James and Finley have accesses that give you good options. Catch some fish. Chase some frogs and crawdads. That will keep them entertained. Bryant Creek around Ava has some nice options too. Lots of nice accesses on that one.

    That one is going to take a bit longer but it's needed and been a long time coming. They should have it done right about the time my last one graduates and I have no reason to keep burning that road up.

    I've only caught a couple of rays and neither were fun to deal with. Not that I regret it either.

    I’ve caught some really nice smallies letting a topwater fly drift slowly along but like you I don’t have much patience for that.

    It can be done without doing that. See it happen all the time. But it is something people should be mindful of.

    I don't care enough to waste my time doing that. Next time somebody from the MDC asks to see my fly I guess I'll just have to pay the fine. I don't think I will be out any money. Ever.

    I used a Zebco 33 until my Uncle took it away from me, handed me a baitcaster, and told me I needed to quit fishing like a child at the old age of 8. It wasn’t until I was in 8th grade before I got my first spinning rod. I just feel like I have better control with a baitcaster. The changing hands deal is a non issue for me and I can cast further than I need to.

    Our member here @Harps is all about catching a musky on a fly. He let me tag along a couple of afternoons this week as he made his last attempts until the water cools off. Harps is horrible at catching musky on the fly but he's persistent and he will eventually get his nut. I'll continue to tag along and not add much to the effort. But I do take pictures!! Well except the last one. I had to make him take a pic of me since I'm the only one that ever catches anything.
