Anyone made a trip this year?

It should be working by now. Got any ideas why not? -

Has the limit been in place for only a short time? -

I betchu that fsndougie will take that challenge in a heartbeat. And you are exactly right about honing skills at trout parks. Dry fly to scud, pick one you like and fine tune. -

Like Johnfolly, this is too big a size for the parks to handle unless they go to the triploid fish. The diploid strain that missouri raises would max out 25 to 30 lb maybe and not be a very healthy fish to survice once released because of age and just being too fat and lazy from the hatchery enviroment. I would love to catch another fish that size, but I don't think you will ever see one at the trout parks. But I am still in favor of cnr or slot limits at the parks. -

You make a good point. I think slot limits in zone 1 and 2 would make a tremendous difference to a quality population at the trout parks. Put and 18 or even 20 inch limit on all brown trout, and like taney limit brown trout to one fish in a legal limit. -

Length limits, and slot limits work very well at taneycomo. -

I was able to start fishing week days in 2013. I think every other trout fishing elderly person retired the same week. Crowds have definately increased . Parking lots are full especially at Taneycomo. Most times at Taney, Missouri license plates are in the minority. -

Your numbers make good sense and give more support than I thought. I still think that they short change the parks in order to promote this. Just my opionion of course. And reading regulations, it appears that the urban fisherman only need a trout permit if they keep trout. -

Anyone made a trip this year?

Here is my beef. Come november 1 they load up the hatchery trucks with tens of thousands of fish and head out to , I think, 31 locations. Those fish come from the hatchery that doesn't seem to be able to keep those same numbers of fish in the trout parks during regular and our winter season. I don't the know the number of lunkers that are loaded up, but I can tell you that it is more than three trout parks see. I don't think that rrsp is a participant in urban fishing. But I do not know that for fact. It is like they have thrown all the good eggs in the urban basket while they let the tourists and regular fishermen support the program. I don't agree that the urban fishermen support the program or even come close. -

Fishinwrench and sio3 stated the facts. With a brand new state of the art hachery, that no longer can produce the numbers of trout that the old facility did for years and years. The 30 lunkers that fw saw in the rearing pool, used to be the number of lunkers that I could find on the creek in any given day. I know that several are in favor of the urban program, but to me it is a slap in the face. And should be to any regular fisherman that frequents the park through out the year. The wife and I decided to make an afternoon trip today. Fishing was so poor, that we bailed early and visited with my uncle who lives close by. The last time we had a good number of decent sized fish, was when the hatchery flooded a couple of years back. That tidal wave of fish ran out in a hurry. 10 lb browns were stocked in a few select urban locations this year. It has been a long long time since I caught a 10 lber at bssp. Been a long time since one existed. Reduced rainbows and no browns. But they add new urban water every year. -
Double clinch it is, for mono and flouro. Used it for as long as I can remember.

Wow Pete. Hope you heal up quick, and start catching some fish. You might have to fish corn off of Phil's dock, and get Duane to run the net for you.
-
Well I hope you get released also. But, best wait two more weeks before you squirrel hunt.

He told me once , that when he lived in Calidonia, that after work he would drive to Montauk for a couple hours fishing.
-
Yes indeed on a true friend Marty.

Not much fw, between guiding clients, and friends, and hunting what ever is in open season, he is a busy guy. Not to mention his custom lure making and wood work. I have known Duane for 16 years now. I have night fished with him on several occasions. He is very knowledgeable, a fine sportsman and all around great guy.

Returned to the lake again this morning around 10:00. Weather was good , boat traffic light for a weekend. Used minnows again. Caught 10 keeper crappie, 3 channel cats, one bass, and 2 warmouth. Watched a momma wood duck with 6 little ones swim by the dock. Back home now and fixing coffee out on the patio. A great couple of days in the ozarks.

Her sister and bil joined us for dinner. No one went home hungry that I am aware of .

Sandy and I made a trip down to her sister's crappie dock yesterday. Weather was great, lake traffic was light, but fishing was slow. Since we had nothing better to do, we stuck it out and just enjoyed the great day. Minnows was the bait of choice. We just sat and waited for fish to find us. Ended up with 9 keeper crappie, one catfish, and lost a big no see um. Felt like a beaver as it swam off towards bagnell dam. Got back home about 3:30 and my lovely bride decided we would make an impromptu meal of fresh crappie, boiled shrimp, parsleyed potatoes, black eyed peas, spinach, and a salad, cheesecake for dessert. Don't ever put that much good food in front of me again. I was totally stuffed and held my belly for an hour. Thinking about doing it again today. The fishing anyway.

Taneycomo Trout all taste like Moss can you tell me why?
laker67 replied to Illbethere's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
I could answer that but I would have to give up a well guarded fishing secret. If you were to sample the different types of stream moss, then you could determine exactly which moss they prefer.
