George Gerth, long time fly fisherman on upper taneycomo, passed away. I know that probably only a few on here will remember him. In recent years he was of poor health and didn't make it down to the river much. For years he operated the camp ground up from the dam across from River Run fly shop.Always wore his signature hat that was covered with flies that he tied and used on a daily basis. RIP George.
I left one turned up so that the fish didn't recognize me. This is the same fish that I caught on the last day of January. The fish probably thought I was one of them Texas oil riggers.
Well here you go Seth. I was reading the February Conservationist this morning and saw that Maramec Spring park is raising the daily trout limit to 5 this year. What a novel idea. Of course they are going to charge you and extra buck to do so. State wide possession limit will move to 10.
I just saw this, sorry about the delay. I sold it to a gentleman near Cole Camp. He bought it for his son. XP's are great rods, I still have a couple. Traded once for it's replacement, the Z - axis, and it is ok, but not the backbone of the XP.
I have seen some of these older photos of Brice Mill. Judging by the car fording the creek, it has to be around 1930's or so. One of the other photos i saw had a model t ford truck crossing the creek. I was told that later there was a bridge spanning what is now the high bank hole. Note the 2 pilings still there.
Most fish I do not weigh. Those that earn a look see, I weight in the net and then subtract the net's weight. That is easy to do at night. Hope to run into you also.
The old lunker standard was 3 pounds and larger. Never measured any fish just went on weight. I started a log book way back on my first lunker. It weighed 3lb 10oz and was caught on a salmon fur bug in zone one at bssp, October 18, 1975. Apparently the new lunker standard, at the parks, is 18 inches. Not many 18 inch rainbows will be any where close to 3 lb. You should do the log book just for your own personal data 40 years from now. You have some good ones that will make the list.
First lunker of the 2020 season. Caught another later in the day but we parted company as I was trying to get a picture . A good start to the 2020 goal of 100 lunkers. I only have 98 more to go.
I am guessing that this will be my last lunker for 2019 because I do not plan to fish tomorrow. A great end to the year. A colored up female all dressed up for the dance.
Well I will try for 100 lunker trout again this year. High water cut out about 3 months of good catching opportunities this past fall. Good luck to all on this year's goal.
