  1. Since my old buddy fshndoug is going to bssp, guess I will head over there about 10am to meet up with him. Normally I try to be at rrsp fishing with Foghorn and his eastern missouri group, but that fell through for me. Hoping everyone catches an early limit in record time and gets the heck out of dodge.
  2. Anybody catch any big fish today?
  3. One very important thing putting the odds in your favor Seth, is that triploids are eaters and not lookers.
  4. It also had a stomach full of sowbugs according to a report from AGF.
  5. ,The other 25lb fish was caught near cooper creek by a gentleman from Boonville, mo as I recall.
  6. You will have to take a number and wait your turn to fish when that happens.
  7. Seems like I did say that. Thank you Paul Crews for making my prediction come true. What a fish.
  8. It might have been waiting on a stocker rainbow for it's next meal.
  9. Didn't see this earlier post from Pete.
  10. Also there is a slight fork in the tail of a rainbow.
  11. There may be several anglers that would be pleased just to catch and release a record fish and that would be the end of it. But, I feel that it needs to be recorded and entered into Missouri's fishing history. And I think that it would be especially important for Missouri's" trout fishing" history. The importance of catching a record trout would vary from angler to angler, but I feel most would be extremely pleased. A recorded record would show how Missouri's trout program has advanced Lake Taneycomo into the fishery it is today and the fishery it will become in the future. We just stepped into a "world class rating" with a 34lb fish. My considerable thanks to all MDC personnel involved with our cold water fisheries. And that includes past and present. On a side note, I am reasonably sure that Mr. Crews becomes the first Missouri brown trout record holder to release a confirmed record.
  12. Great story, great write up, and a tremendous fish. Congratulation to Paul Crews. An extraordinary effort by all involved in the release of this new state record fish.
  13. Congratulations Paul, a tremendous brown trout.
  14. My favorite fish is a trout. Doesn't really matter what brand. Unlike SIO3"s mystical white bass, you know exactly where to go and timing does not seem to be a factor.
  15. If you want to retain the true flavor of the fish you are frying, use "Old Fashioned Fry Meal". If you want your fish to taste like something other than fish, then I don't know what to tell you. This fry meal is sold at the Mennonite stores like "Miller's Country Store" near bssp.
  16. So does maramec have a different closing than the other trout parks?
  17. Wade safe and good luck. I think you can still use felt in arkansas. It is much quieter.
  18. I would have to agree to that.
  19. Yes and also at goat's bluff prior to the flooding that changed most of that area. Did not do exceptionally well. It was a night with cloud cover and one of the darkest places that I have ever waded.
  20. Sounds like Frank is doing exactly what triploids are supposed to do. Eat, grow big, and eat more. When these larger trips first showed up in the livewells, I think 2 years ago, I said then to several people, that within the next 3 years, a new record will come from taneycomo. I really thought it would be this year. And when it happens, it will be an ongoing thing until we run out of triploids. Someone said in an earlier post that the triploids should have a separate record class all their own. I am inclined to agree.
  21. Well I hope you catch several. Kinda got sidetracked on the topic with out thinking . The crappie was the first fish. That is my annual "go to" fish.
  22. I have yet to catch a big fish in 2019, but I have a good variety going. Crappie, largemouth, smallmouth , goggle eye, rainbow, and redhorse sucker.
  23. yes indeed. Dave Bethurem and I called them "blue ribbon stringers".
  24. Use a three fly rig and above that put an orange bobber. When the boober hesitates, make a downstream sidearm sweep. As you miss the strike on the bottom fly, you will foul hook one on the middle fly. As you are unhooking the foul hooked fished, the upper fly gets hooked in your ear lobe or chin or neck. Sometimes that foul hooked fish gets tangled with 2 other anglers on the opposite side also using 3 fly rigs. And at that point one or both of the other anglers think that they have fair hooked a fish and the tug of war begins. And when it is all worked out, the other 76 people wait as the 3 fly lines stretched from one side to the other get untangled.
  25. I fished it on the 28th and it was clear but about 5 inches high in the area I was fishing. The river was up and muddy so I think it was backing the creek up. A buddy showed up with his daughter and his 8 year old grandson. I spent the first couple of hours taking pictures of fish they were catching. That little guy was a trooper, 31 degrees was the high for the day and he stayed right with it. Mom did good for about 3 hours then went to the truck to read a book. Now Monday the 31st was a different stream altogether. Don't know how much rain overnight. When I got to the park around 11:30 there was a mudline just starting about the holland dam. I went to the outlet in zone 2 knowing that some good fish might be moving out of the main current. The ankle deep water was already knee deep. I kept moving up with the water rising catching one fish after another for a solid 3 hrs. No good fish like I hoped for, but did hook and lose a nice brown around 3lbs. As the water got higher it also was filtering through the hatchery and eventually the outlet was muddy. At 3:30 I call it quits and took a stoll towards the whistle bridge. The high water was already spilling over it. I drove up to the spring on the way out. Spring was running clear but the dry creek bed was pumping muddy water over the slab. It was mixing together at the holland dam. Ended the 2018 season with a fun day of fishing.
